You're listening to the My Morning Devotional podcast, episode 1352. Today's Devo is called Wisdom vs.
00:00:07.040 --> 00:00:31.780
Folly. Hey there. We're the Alessies, a ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida. And if you're like us, when days get busy and to do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time. That's why we've partnered with our friend Allison to produce a five minute daily dose of heaven. This is the My Morning Devotional Podcast. Well, welcome back, everybody. Happy Tuesday.
00:00:32.179 --> 00:00:58.189
This is Gabby, your host for the week, and I hope you guys are all having a great day. Tuesdays are great days to go and get tacos because it's Taco Tuesday. So I don't know about you, but every Tuesday I crave Mexican food. And so hopefully we can all go and find that today because it is Taco Tuesday. We are continuing the book of Proverbs and today is September 9th, so we're going to jump over to Proverbs 9.
00:00:58.750 --> 00:01:35.560
Now, I don't have a specific verse for you today because this whole chapter is incredible. I love this chapter. Why do I love it? Because it's giving you a presentation almost of the invitation we receive from Wisdom and the invitation of Folly. So at the top of this, this chapter, actually, it's titled Invitations of Wisdom and folly. Verse 1 says, Wisdom has built her house. She has set up seven pillars. She has prepared her meat and mixed her wine, and she has also set her table. She has sent out her servants and she calls from the highest point of the city.
00:01:35.560 --> 00:02:00.769
I'm just going to read this whole chapter, if y' all don't mind. Let all who are simple come to my house. To those who have no sense, she says, come eat my food and drink the wine I have mixed. Leave your simple ways and you will live. Walk in the way of insight. Now, I wanna scroll down to verse 13. I said scroll because I am on my iPad, but jump down if you're reading the physical Bible.
00:02:01.329 --> 00:02:16.368
Verse 13 says, this folly is an unruly woman. She is simple and knows nothing. She sits at the door of her house on a seat at the highest point of the city, calling out to those who pass by, who go straight on their way. Let all who are simple come to my house.
00:02:16.368 --> 00:02:20.008
To those who have no sense, she says, stolen water is sweet.
00:02:20.248 --> 00:02:53.960
Food eaten in secret is delicious. But little do they know that the dead are there, that her guests are deep in the realm of the dead. What's the takeaway from these two chunks of Verses. The takeaway for me is that Wisdom and Folly, they both are going to present themselves to us in life. And sometimes their presentations sound and look similar. You see, both of them say that they sit at a high point of the city. It. It says that both of them sit at their door and greet people in.
00:02:54.599 --> 00:03:04.840
They both use the same verbiage in. In verse 4, Wisdom says, Let all who are simple come to my house. To those who have no sense, she says, come and eat my food.
00:03:05.289 --> 00:03:35.159
Right? In verse 16, Folly says, Let all who are simple to my house come to my house. To those who have no sense, she says, stolen water is sweet. So you're seeing that their pitch, if you will, or their invitation lines up, even down to the verbiage, even down to the same words. It sounds similar, but one leads to life, one shows you how to live, one helps you walk in insight.
00:03:35.879 --> 00:04:05.900
Meanwhile, the other one leads to death. The guests are deep in the realm of the dead, and it doesn't lead to insight. In fact, I think it leads you to more confusion. And I don't know about you, but there are countless of examples of men and women that have chosen to receive the invitation and accept the invitation of Wisdom. And you see their life versus those that have received the invitation of folly and of foolishness.
00:04:06.539 --> 00:05:04.709
And if you were to put one against the other, and we're not trying to judge somebody, but if we were to examine and learn from the person that received the invitation of Wisdom and the person that received the invitation of folly, you would see the fruit of that person, and the fruit speaks for itself. In fact, the fruit lines up to the invitation. What Wisdom and folly are selling, you see in the lives of people that have chosen those roads, you see in the lives of people back in the Bible that chose that road, you see it all over the place. And so for us, we have to know in our life that Wisdom and Folly, they're both going to make an invitation. There will be a season in our life where wisdom speaks to us and calls out to us, and at the same time, Folly does. And we have to make the decision. Whose house are we going to enter? Whose table are we going to sit at?
00:05:05.430 --> 00:06:07.449
Are we going to be in a place where we can do things in secret because, man, it tastes so much better when it's in secret? Or are we going to eat the food and the wine that Wisdom has mixed? Or are we going to leave our simple ways and we're going to live and walk in the way of insight? Are we going to do that because the reality is this, both of them are going to make an invitation to you and we all have to choose which one are we going to accept. And so my prayer today is this, that you and me, all of us, would accept the invitation of wisdom. Because in verse 11 it says this for through wisdom your days will be many and years will be added to to your life. That's the life that I want. And I know that's the life that we all want. Father, we thank you for today. We thank you Lord, that you have given us this insight, that you have have given us this revelation about both wisdom and folly, Lord, that even though they might sound similar and look the same, Lord, their ways are the opposite. Their ways are not the same.
00:06:07.930 --> 00:06:22.139
And so, Lord, we all chase others after wisdom. I pray that you would lead us all to wisdom and that you would give us the revelation, Lord, to turn away from folly, to deny that invitation and accept the invitation of wisdom. And I thank you for it. In Jesus name I pray.
00:06:22.220 --> 00:06:45.189
Amen and Amen. So there you have it, your 5 minute daily dose of heaven. Thank you so much for tuning in today we pray these devotionals empower you to take on your day.
