Why Am I Anxious?

Why do anxious thoughts seem to follow us into each new day? In today's episode, we'll reflect together on the words of Jesus in Matthew 6 and explore how seeking God's kingdom first can free us from worry about tomorrow. Drawing inspiration from Richelle Alessi's honest journey of deepening her understanding of Scripture, we'll consider practical ways to read the Bible, pray for our daily needs, and prioritize God's presence—no matter where we are in our faith. Today's episode is called why Am I Anxious?
00:00:07.519 --> 00:01:09.650
Hey there. We're the Alessi's, a ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida. And if you're like us, when days get busy and to do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time. That's why we've partnered with our friend Allison to produce a five minute daily dose of heaven. This is the My Morning Devotional podcast. Good morning everybody and happy Friday. We've made it to the end of the week and I really hope that you guys have been blessed this week. And I'm excited to get into today's devo because it is such a great verse. And as you heard yesterday, I've been watching the Chosen and it's been truly what's done for me is that it's challenged me to go read my Bible, because when I see the show and I see the story, I want to go back and be like, is that true? And my husband actually, he did his theology, his master's in theology, and he's been studying the Bible for a long time. So I always turn to him and I'm like, chris, did that really happen? Is that really in the Bible?
00:01:10.049 --> 00:01:21.090
And he helps me answer as much as he can. But what has shown me is how much more I need to know and how much more I need to learn about the Bible and the word of God and what he has written.
00:01:21.799 --> 00:01:58.519
And so I really hope, guys, that these devos are doing the same for you. I hope that they're piquing your interest more and more about the Bible and that it fuels you to say, I want to go back and read it for myself. I want to go back and see is that true? Where is that? And not just read one verse, but read a full chapter and then full chapter turn into two and three and then a full book of the Bible, because I promise you the Bible is, is full of life and it will change your life if you read it. So thank you for being with us. Thank you for listening to this podcast.
00:01:58.760 --> 00:03:08.050
And I encourage you to really go back and read this on your own because it would truly bless you. And so within that theme, I want to continue reading. And these are actually Jesus's words as well. Matthew 6 is fully in red, which if you ever opened up your Bible or your phone Bible and you see letters in red, is because these are Jesus's exact words. And so I been loving this and I want to read from Matthew 6 and it's verse 33 and 34, and it says, but seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Therefore, do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself, sufficient for the day. It's his own trouble. And you know, when I. I've read these words and I realized that these were Jesus's words, it made me even think deeper about it. Because Jesus had a task here on this earth and he accomplished to build a ministry for three years and the people that he brought along with him.
00:03:08.289 --> 00:03:19.439
And when he talks about not being anxious, yeah, he was talking to somebody else and he was putting these sermons together. But I wondered, he is probably not. He probably.
00:03:19.520 --> 00:04:15.219
He has been the most powerful person to walk this earth, who's had the most important mission of the entire world. And this is the man saying to not worry about tomorrow, because tomorrow has its own issues. Just focus on today and seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness. And it shows that Jesus priority was straight, which is what helped him accomplish the greatest mission of this world. Is why you and I today get to live a free life. Is why you and I today get to enjoy our life and continue his ministry work. Because he was here on earth and he was still seeking for us the kingdom of God to make sure that the righteousness and the kingdom of God was being done and represented right in his life. And so I encourage you today, guys, seek first the kingdom of God.
00:04:15.780 --> 00:04:33.699
Seek him with everything that you have, because everything else will be added to you. Let your priority be seeking the Lord in everything you do. You don't have to be in ministry. You don't have to have 50 years of Christianity with you. You don't even have to be a theologian.
00:04:34.620 --> 00:05:51.670
But all you have to have is a heart that says, I'm going to seek the Lord with everything I have. I'm going to seek his kingdom and his righteousness. I love that he includes righteousness in here because it means we're going to seek the Lord and the right things of the Lord. Not just being a Christian and a feeling, but the right things that truly are God's. And in that I know that tomorrow will have its own trouble. But for today, I'm going to seek the Lord. And it goes back to what we even talked about yesterday. The Lord say, pray for your daily bread. The stuff that's keeping you anxious today, pray for today, pray tomorrow, tomorrow, and truly live in the present. Of course, have vision for the future, know the areas where you want to grow and the things that you do have to work on, prepare yourself enough to when you get to that thing that's making you anxious, you're not so anxious before because you're preparing your mind. But do not let anxiety take over your life. Read your word, Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and pray for your daily bread and you'll see that you will live a freer life, mentally and even physically in your own body, in your everyday life.
00:05:52.459 --> 00:06:21.839
So let's pray. Dear Father God, thank you once again for your words, Father. The words that you spoke thousands of years ago that till this day is exactly what we need. Which shows us, Lord, that you are all we need for the rest of your life. No matter what generation, no matter what year, no matter what culture we live in. What we truly need is you. Because your words stand true and your words have passed the test of time.
00:06:22.160 --> 00:06:59.329
They are the true words of you, Jesus. And so I pray that we will build our life on this truth, that everything we do, God, we seek you and your righteousness and that we will pray for today and that we will pray for tomorrow, but knowing that you are in control and that you are with us, in Jesus name I pray. Amen. So there you have it. Your 5 minute daily dose of heaven. Thank you so much for tuning in today. We pray these devotionals empower you to take on your day. 00:06:59.410 --> 00:07:04.370
Until tomorrow, we pray that your latte is strong, but your love for Jesus is stronger.
