When Everything Changes | Daily Devotional 1651
What do you do when life changes in ways you never expected and the future you imagined suddenly looks completely different?
In today's episode, Richelle Alessi introduces our new study through the book of Ruth, beginning with Ruth 1:1–5. We're introduced to Naomi, a woman whose life is turned upside down by devastating loss and uncertainty. After losing her husband and both of her sons, Naomi finds herself facing a future she never planned for, unsure of what comes next.
We'll be challenged to examine how we respond when everything around us changes. Whether we're experiencing loss, navigating an unexpected transition, or questioning what God has planned for our lives, we're reminded that faith doesn't mean we'll never face difficult seasons. It means we don't have to walk through them alone. Even when we cannot see what lies ahead, we can trust that God is present, that His Spirit brings comfort, and that He can provide the support we need along the way.
Let's join in prayer and devotion as a community, asking God to strengthen our faith through life's unexpected changes, comfort us in seasons of loss, and help us trust His faithfulness even when we don't understand what comes next.

Richelle AlessiGood morning, everybody, and happy Monday. Welcome back to My Morning Devotional Podcast. My name is Rashelle Alesi, and I get the privilege of being your host this week. I am so excited because I always open up a new month, which means a new series or a new topic. And the last, this is actually the third month of us doing this, but we've been going through books of the Bible together. And because there's four hosts, and some books of the Bible have four or five, we're like, this is perfect for my morning demo. And so I'm so excited to introduce uh the book of Ruth. And so it's gonna be a fun time for us to be studying such a powerful um lady in the Bible, the main of change that we can model today. And I I'm going to be going over chapter one, and so I'm going to be picking up on verse three, but the verses for today are one through five, but I'm gonna pick up on verse three and I'll fill you in with the rest. And it says, But Elimelech, the husband of Naomi, died, and she was left with her two sons. These took Moabite wives, the name of one was Orpah, and the name of the other, Ruth. They lived there about 10 years, and both Malon and Kelian died, so that the women were left alone without her two sons and her husband. So this story starts with like immediate tragic. There is no calling of the Lord. You know, when you hear the story of David, you start to read about from him when he was a young boy, and you go from his years as a shepherd, then the calling of God, and then his trials, and then all his victories. The book of Ruth immediately starts with loss. There is nothing preparing you for this book. And it's crazy because immediately goes to it's literally two verses of history of who they are, where they came from, and where they went, and then boom, here's a loss. Naomi loses her husband, and then all of a sudden, a couple of years later, she loses her two sons, her entire family, besides, of course, her daughter-in-law, they're dead. And she literally says, I am left alone. She's left in this season where she is experiencing loss, and she does not know a world without her husband and her sons. Back then, just to give you even a little bit more context, as wives, your world was really your husband. He provided everything for you. And if your husband passed away and you had your sons, you even had that refuge in them. But now she's left alone with her daughter-in-law. Imagine that burden that she felt. How am I going to provide for these girls when these even these girls were not where she was from? So she was like, We took them away from their home, and now I want to go back to my old home. And I can't put these girls through already so much more, they're experiencing so much pain. I'm not gonna ask them for anything else. And it's crazy because Naomi's lives just change through loss, through famine. You hear from the beginning, they move from place to place because of the famine they experience, and then she moves back to another place because of the loss. And she's really left to this point of like, what do I do? And I wonder if a lot of us listening today have experienced such deep losses in our life where we are left wondering and actually even questioning, God, what do I do now? Like, what is my life plan now? I did not imagine my life without this person. I did not imagine my life without the situation. All my life, I grew up in this, and now you're telling me I have to leave it. How is all of this gonna work out? And you really start to question the plan. So, my question for you is what do you do when everything changes? When everything that you plan for is not going to plan? Who do you run to? What are your thoughts like? What is the message that you're believing in those moments? Because Naomi was going through something really hard. And what I want us to even take from, as we're starting already, because these verses don't have anything hopeful just yet, but you have to stay in there. What do you do when everything changes? And I think is we have faith. And faith does not mean that we're not going to experience loss. What faith means is that you're not gonna have to walk through this alone. You are going to have the right people waiting for you to help you walk through that big life change, through the biggest loss of your life that is so hard that sometimes, like, I cannot even share this with the people closest to me because they might not be able to understand. Yet God will provide for you exactly who you need and what you need. And so as we continue, just remember that faith does not mean that you're not going to experience loss, but it does mean that the Lord will provide exactly what you need to get through that season. So, what do we do when everything changes? We have faith in God and that the Lord will provide. So let's pray. Dear Father God, thank you so much for your faithfulness. Thank you because even in the midst of loss, Lord, you say that you will send us exactly what we need, that your spirit will be our comforter. So I pray today that whatever situation that we're experiencing, that whatever it is that has changed our lives, Lord, that we respond if we are going to have faith in the Lord. And it might not be an emotion we feel, but that we're gonna take faith in our actions and our thoughts and our words and even what we declare in our everyday life, believing, Lord, that you will be with us through it all. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
