In today’s episode of the My Morning Devotional Podcast, Richelle Alessi concludes the perseverance series by exploring Romans 5:3-4 and the powerful connection between suffering, perseverance, character, and hope.

“We also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.”

When we are walking through a difficult season, hope can feel far away. It’s easy to believe that things will never change, that the situation will never improve, or that the pain will never end.

But Scripture paints a different picture.

God does not waste our struggles. He uses them.

What feels like a setback today may be developing something deeper within us:

Greater perseverance
Stronger faith
Godly character
Lasting hope

This devotional reminds us that hope is often formed in the middle of the process, not at the beginning of it.

While we naturally want immediate answers and quick solutions, God is often doing a deeper work beneath the surface. As we continue trusting Him through challenges, He shapes our character and strengthens our confidence in His promises.

If you’ve been feeling discouraged, weary, or tempted to give up, let this be your reminder that your current season is not the end of the story.

God is still working.
God is still shaping.
God is still strengthening.

And on the other side of perseverance is a hope that cannot be shaken by circumstances.

Keep trusting Him.
Keep moving forward.
The work God is doing in you today is preparing you for what He has ahead.
