Failure does not define your story—restoration does.
In this episode of the My Morning Devotional Podcast, Lauren Alessi shares “From Failure to Restoration,” reflecting on John 21:17 and the powerful moment between Jesus and Peter after the resurrection.
Peter had denied Jesus three times. In a moment of fear, he failed in a way that could have defined the rest of his life. But when Jesus meets him again, He does not revisit the failure—He restores him and gives him purpose.
Key reflections from this devotional:
Jesus does not lead with your past—He calls you into your future
Failure is not final when placed in God’s hands
Restoration often comes with renewed purpose
Instead of condemning Peter, Jesus asks him a simple but profound question: “Do you love me?” And with each response, Jesus gives him a calling—“Feed my sheep.”
This was not a reminder of Peter’s denial. It was a re-commissioning.
This message is especially meaningful for those walking through daily devotionals, morning prayer, or a consistent Bible reading plan, because it reminds us that God’s response to failure is not rejection—it is restoration.
A central takeaway from this episode:
God is not focused on your worst moment—He is focused on your calling.
Peter’s story shows us that even our most painful mistakes do not disqualify us from being used by God. In fact, they often become the very place where grace is most clearly revealed.
Another powerful truth:
What the enemy tries to use as a reminder of failure, God uses as an opportunity for redemption.
Jesus did not ignore Peter’s past—He transformed it. And He entrusted Peter with responsibility, leadership, and impact moving forward.
If you are carrying regret, shame, or a past decision that feels too heavy to overcome, this is the encouragement:
Bring it to God.
Because the same Jesus who restored Peter is still restoring people today—turning failure into purpose, and brokenness into something meaningful.
Tune in and let's embrace the power of the Holy Spirit in our lives!
