Ungodly Indicators, Part 1

Ungodly Indicators, Part 1

Have you ever wondered what signals in your life might be pointing you away from God’s peace? In today’s episode, host Gaby Alessi begins a new five-part devotional series called "Ungodly Indicators." Together, we'll learn how to recognize the subtle signs—like stress—that reveal when we’re not operating in the Spirit. Drawing from personal experiences and biblical wisdom, Gaby guides us to notice these warning lights in our daily lives and invites us to cast our anxieties on God, who cares deeply for us.

Join us as we pray and devote ourselves to seeking God’s peace, supporting one another as a community on the journey toward spiritual course correction.

You're listening to the My Morning Devotional podcast, episode 1271. Today's Devo is called Ungodly Indicators, part one. Hey there. We're the Alessies, a ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida. And if you're like us, when days get busy and to do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time.

00:00:22.000 --> 00:00:50.729
That's why we've partnered with our friend Alison to produce a five minute daily dose of heaven. This is the My Morning Devotional Podcast. Well, happy Monday, everybody. It's a new week, which means new devos. This is Gabby Alessi, your host for the week. Can we just give it up for Lauren Lessi for last week's DeVos? She did a phenomenal job and we are blessed because there's so many of us that are on this podcast and you get to hear from each of us each week.

00:00:50.729 --> 00:01:05.709
So we hope you're enjoying. Continue to reach out with any questions or feedback because trust me, we read it, we talk about it, and we love your feedback. I have been thinking about this idea that I'm going to be talking about all week long.

00:01:06.030 --> 00:03:11.409
That's why today's Devo is part one. There will be five parts of this, but I've been thinking about this idea that I named ungodly indicators. And basically what that means to me is that these are indicators, these are things, these are actions, these are words that we're saying that are indicating that I am not operating in the spirit, that my life is not being led or lived in a godly way. This might be kind of cutthroat. So I want to, I do want to say that this did come to me really in my own life. And this is a kind of speaking from experience because recently, and I'm going to get to it in one of the episodes this week with one of the indicators. Indicators. But like one of the. The indicators was really showing in my life that I was operating more in this thing than in a godly thing. And it hit my spirit so hard and I'm like, you know what? I need to dive into this because there's a lot of indicators in our life. There's a lot of signs in our life that I do believe the Lord uses as like a hey, kind of like a red flag. Like, hey, you're not really operating in a spirit here or in the spirit here. You're not really using the, the words that I've given you in my word as, as life to your bones, if you know what I mean. Like, you're not really taking what I'm saying seriously. You got to go back to that, you know? And so I want to break down what I believe are some ungodly indicators. And I've even looked at the word in the Bible, and a lot of this actually comes from Galatians 5, when it talks about the acts of the flesh and the fruit of the spirit. And so this week, I'd like to dive into ungodly indicators, signs and little flags in our life that we can look at and go, I gotta correct myself. All this is is a course correction. This is not something that you've got to figure it out and you gotta fix yourself. It's just a little course correction. So for part one, the ungodly indicator that I've been thinking about recently has been stress.

00:03:11.969 --> 00:04:07.909
I think we all know that stress. And when you see that stress coming out, whether it's a physical reaction to stress, maybe you're getting. You're breaking out more, maybe it's something with your hair or. Or how you're talking to others, all of those are indicators that there is stress in your life. For example, I am planning a wedding, and one day to the next, my forehead broke out with so much acne, and I was doing so good. And I looked it up and I was like, okay, let me look at, like, the. The different spots on your face. And if you have acne in, like, your cheeks, what does that mean? And then acne in your forehead, and of course it lined up. If you have acne in your forehead, it's probably stress. I'm not a dermatologist, but I think that's what it means. That's what Google told me. Stress is a huge indicator that we're not going to God on things, even physical stress. When it comes out in the way that we talk to people, when it comes out in the way that we're talking to our spouse, in the way that we're talking to our friends, in our mood at work.

00:04:08.229 --> 00:04:26.560
Stress cannot hide stress, and anxiety cannot stay silent. It's something that always makes itself known. And stress is an ungodly indicator. Stress is an indicator that we are not going to God with something.

00:04:27.040 --> 00:05:18.410
You see first. Peter 5, 7 says this, cast all of your anxiety on him because he cares for you. You see, this is Peter telling the church, guys, there's anxiety that you have. There is stress that you have. Give that to the Lord. I looked up the meaning of the word cast, and it actually says to throw something forcefully in a specified direction in A specific area in a specific place. We are supposed to throw something. That's what it means to cast. So what Peter is saying, and I also looked at all the other translations, and they all use the word cast. So it's not like a synonym of something else. But cast is saying, throw anything that binds you, that stresses you out, that keeps you down. Throw that on the Lord. Why?

00:05:18.810 --> 00:05:33.689
Because God cares for you. I think sometimes we have to remember that God wants to carry our burdens. I think we have to remember that God does see the battle. He does see the stress, he does see the anxiety, and he doesn't want us to carry it.

00:05:34.649 --> 00:05:44.850
So he's not saying cast it because you don't need it. It's saying cast it because he cares for you. So the ungodly indicator is stress, but the godly indicator is peace.

00:05:45.730 --> 00:06:08.339
And we know that God gives us a peace that surpasses all understanding. So maybe this speaks to you today. Maybe we need to examine our life. Is there the indicator of stress? Do you see stress in your life? Is it a physical manifestation of stress? Is it a verbal manifestation of stress? Is it stress in the home, stress in the family?

00:06:08.339 --> 00:06:19.100
Maybe you don't feel the stress, but you see it in other people. Today is the day that we cast all of our anxieties, all of our cares upon the Lord, knowing that he cares for us.

00:06:19.660 --> 00:06:30.060
And we're going to pursue, we're going to walk away, we're going to catch the ungodly indicator, we're going to notice it and we're going to respond and cast our cares upon the Lord. Can I pray for you today?

00:06:30.949 --> 00:06:53.269
Lord, I just thank you for today. I thank you because you care for us. God, the stresses of life are real. They come at us from all sides. It might be a stress that we are dealing with personally, an internal battle that we are facing, or maybe it's an external battle, something that we can't control that keeps going on around us. But, Father, we just go ahead right now.

00:06:53.509 --> 00:07:51.649
We cast this anxiety. We throw it upon you, Father, we. We ask you to bring us a peace that surpasses all understanding. Father, I pray this week you would start to use these ungodly indicators to speak to all of us and to show us where we need a course correction, a Holy Spirit course correction. God, I pray that we would humble ourselves and we would keep our eyes open to the ungodly indicators that might be peeking their head up at us. Lord, they're just little yellow lights that are warning us of something before it gets worse. We don't want red lights, God, we want the yellow ones. We can handle the yellow ones. So I pray that you would use this message and these indicators to course correct us to get us on the right path so we can live a life that is pleasing to you. And we cast our cares upon you because you care for us and we thank you for it. In Jesus name I pray. Amen and Amen. So there you have it.
