Ungodly Indicators #3: Pride

Ungodly Indicators #3: Pride

Have you ever wondered if there's something hidden in your heart that might be pushing you away from God’s best for your life? In today’s episode, hosts Gaby Alessi explore the subtle but powerful presence of pride and how it can act as an ungodly indicator in our spiritual walk. Together, we’ll dive into Psalm 139 and uncover how true humility opens the door to conviction, transformation, and a deeper relationship with the Lord. We'll reflect on the courage it takes to ask God to search our hearts and learn how to recognize pride, even when it tries to hide.

Join us as we pray together for open hearts and a willingness to let God guide us on the everlasting way, trusting that He knows the whole story. Let’s seek Him in humble devotion as a community today.

You're listening to the My Morning Devotional Podcast, episode 1273. Today's Devo is called Ungodly Indicator Part 3. Hey there. We're the Alessies, a ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida. And if you're like us, when days get busy and to do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time.

00:00:22.000 --> 00:00:36.009
That's why we've partnered with our friend Alison to produce a five minute daily dose of heaven. This is the My Morning Devotional Podcast. Welcome back. Happy Wednesday. I hope this is blessing everybody that is listening.

00:00:37.049 --> 00:01:10.599
I've never said the word indicator so much, but I really hope this is stirring up good things in all of our hearts. And it's just pointing us in a direction that pleases the Lord. That's my heart for this theme and the Devos this week. Today I want to talk about another indicator. And I actually want to start with the verse. It's Psalms 139, 23. And it says this. Search me God, and know my heart. Test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me and lead me in the way everlasting.

00:01:11.640 --> 00:01:14.200
You know, this can be a really difficult verse to pray.

00:01:15.400 --> 00:01:18.439
Because man, when we ask God to search, he will search.

00:01:20.569 --> 00:01:38.090
If you leave it to the Lord to sniff out something, he's gonna sniff it out. And I know that there are times in my life that I find myself not wanting to pray this prayer. And I don't know if it's out of rebellion, I don't know if it's out of fear that he's gonna find something.

00:01:39.290 --> 00:01:42.170
But sometimes it's cause I feel like I don't need it.

00:01:43.849 --> 00:02:15.400
And that indicator is pride. I want to talk about pride a little bit today because pride is such a quiet, sneaky fox that comes up, digs up stuff. And what's scary is we don't even know that we have it. I was talking to somebody the other day about pride, and they were talking to me and they were like, yeah, is that something that you struggle with? And it was funny because I'm like, you know, I'm really not a prideful person. And I think it's because I saw pride as being like stubborn.

00:02:16.590 --> 00:03:13.280
So if I was stubborn in my ways, if I had an opinion and I was strong with that opinion, or you can't influence me, like, this is what I believe. I thought that was pride. Like, you just can't admit that you're wrong. And then I started to realize that pride was so Much more. And really what pride does is slowly but surely it blinds us to the areas in our life that we need to fix. I'd even say this, and I want to say this humbly, if you struggled listening to this podcast the last three days, then maybe that is an example of pride. Maybe that's an indicator of pride because we don't want to look at the things that we might not be doing right. I think if we struggle asking and saying this prayer, search me, God, and know my heart, if we struggle doing that, then that is an indicator of pride in our lives. That is showing us that we have pride.

00:03:13.280 --> 00:04:23.949
Pride is not being able to sit before the Lord and say, search me, God. If there's anything here, pride is. Is holding on to the things that we know, the things that we believe, the opinions that we have. That is pride. If we can't lay that down, then all we are is just prideful. All we are is saying, God, you don't know, but I know. And what ends up happening is when we have a life of pride, a heart of pride, then we actually start to push away conviction. You see, the opposite of pride, yes, is humility. We need to humble ourselves, but if we never humble ourselves, we never get to a place where we can feel convicted and we respond to the conviction of the Holy Spirit. Conviction has been something that's really been speaking to me, and really this whole pride conversation has been speaking to me lately. And the Lord's been challenging me on this because, funny enough, that conversation that I had with my friend, I realized from that convo that I was very prideful. I am very prideful. I believe I know the whole story. I believe I have all the information that I need, and I believe I have the intelligence and the wisdom to make a decision.

00:04:24.910 --> 00:06:26.689
And I've learned recently that I'm wrong and it's okay to be wrong. You know why? Because I don't know the whole story. The wrong in that is believing that we do know the whole story. The wrong is when we hold onto our own opinion and we are right. It's fine not being right. It's fine if you're wrong, because that brings us to a place of humility. And when we're in a humble place, that's when we're able to hear and feel the conviction of the Holy Spirit. A scary thing in life is when we don't feel that conviction. And I believe it shows us that there's pride in our lives. We've pushed away. We haven't answered. We haven't responded to the conviction. And then we go back to the root of that. And then there's pride. And we think we have it all together. And pride is an indicator. Or I think, I think us knowing and us believing that we have it all together and it not working out, I think that's an indicator of pride. But that's an ungodly indicator. When there's pride in our hearts, it's an ungodly indicator. It's not casting our cares before the Lord. It's not putting God first. It's not putting his opinion first. It's putting ourselves first. And this is a really hard pill to swallow for some of us, for all of us. But I think it's good to be reminded that God is on the throne, not us. God knows the story, we don't. God says yes and amen. We don't. What God says is true. It's not what we say is true, but we can hold on to what God says is true. And we can hold on that he is on the throne. We can trust. We may not have it all, but. We know the One who has it all. And let us rest in that and Pray this prayer daily. This has been a part of my daily prayer is Psalms 139 Search me, O God, and know my heart. Test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way and lead me in the way everlasting. Father, I just thank you for today.

00:06:27.410 --> 00:06:39.410
I pray that all of us listening can pray this prayer boldly today that you can Search us Father. Know our hearts God. See if there's any offensive ways in us.

00:06:39.569 --> 00:06:49.490
Lord. Test us and know our anxious thoughts Father and lead us in the way everlasting. Search us today in Jesus name. Amen.

00:06:51.810 --> 00:07:12.769
