Lauren Alessi Burgos

Hello, everyone. My name is Lauren Alesi Burgos, and I am your host for this week. We are reading out of the verses we know, but the truth we need. So we've read out of Jeremiah 29.11, Psalm 23, even John 3.16. And today we are reading out of Proverbs 3, 5. And again, it's not to say that these verses lose their impact because they're so prominently, is that the word to use? But because they're used so often, because it's the word of God. No part of the word of God can lose its impact. But it like the analogy I used in, I think it was episode two. Sometimes we hear a song so often that it's like, yeah, it's good, but we don't really let it sink in with how good it is. And it's like the other day I heard an old song that used to be played a lot, and I was like, wow, I forgot how good this is. So that's kind of why I wanted to bring up these verses again, because just because we hear them more often or see them more often, or they get referenced more often, I don't want the impact to be lost in how often they are used. Um, because when we really sit and meditate on them, it's like, wow, these are why they're used so often, because these are amazing verses of the Bible. So today we're talking about trusting God completely. Can you guess what verse we're gonna use? Proverbs 3:5, it says this trust in the Lord with all your heart and lead not on your own understanding. If you keep reading, it says, In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your path straight. There was a song uh that I used to sing to remember this. I think my fifth grade teacher taught me. It was like, trust in the Lord with all your heart, lean not on your own understanding. If you know that song, you're welcome. I just jogged it back to your memory. And I just love this verse. It's a personal one for me because when I was waiting on God for something personal, this was a verse I would write down on a piece of paper and like on my mirror every morning, I would put this on my mirror and just reference it whenever I needed it. Um, which was every morning I needed it, every morning. Um and I just love it. It's personal to me because sometimes our own understanding, at least mine, my own understanding can stress me out. So I need to be told over and over again, Lauren, don't lean on your own understanding. You don't know everything. And it's not just about like, oh yeah, you don't know everything. It's about you could be wrong in this scenario. And and it's not even about your logic because God operates in a whole different timing. God operates in a whole different logic. And like I was saying in the other episode, we don't know why God makes us wait sometimes, but I've seen people's testimonies. I was talking to a church person um like two Sundays ago, and and God had blessed them with a baby girl through adoption, and she was like, I don't know why God made me wait, but all I can tell you is that I needed this specific baby girl. And when I tell you God literally hid her from her birth mother, from her birth family, because she was supposed to be in our family. And and it's the kind of adoption story when you hear it, it's not mine to tell. When you hear it, you're like, this shouldn't have happened. But why? Because our own understanding, we can't even come up with stories like that. We can't even think about the kind of miracle stories God wants to do for us. Our brain can't even go there in our head, and God can do those miracles in an instant. I'm talking about the kind of miracles where our brain thinks it wants a dream job, and and we our own understanding is like, well, maybe it can happen through this way, maybe it can happen through this person, maybe if I hustle hard enough, maybe, maybe if I contact this person to put me in contact with this person, and God's like, your own understanding, yeah, keep running with that. Meanwhile, God's understanding is like next week, boom, here's a dream job. Sign the papers, it's done. There you go, it's done. It's over. You have a dream job. And you're like, how did God even provide that? Because our own understanding can't comprehend God's understanding. Which is why Proverbs is like, look, trust in the Lord with all your heart. Don't even lean on your own understanding. In all your ways, acknowledge him, and he's gonna make your path straight. Because the word of God knows, and Solomon who writes this knows you can't trust on your own understanding. So trust on the Lord's. Let's pray. Dear Lord, we thank you so much, God, that your ways are higher, your ways are better, God. We honestly should not trust in our own understanding, God. It's gonna lead us nowhere. And God, help us to do that in ways, even myself, God, where I stress myself out, trusting in my own understanding, where I stress myself out, thinking of ways that you're gonna provide, thinking of ways you're gonna come through, God. Yes, I should have the faith, God, but help me have the faith to completely trust in you and your own understanding, God. And we know, God, that you will make our path straight. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
