True Understanding

What do we do when life doesn’t go as planned and our prayers seem to go unanswered? In today’s episode, hosts Gaby Alessi and Mary Alessi invite us to reflect on true understanding as we walk through seasons of waiting and surrender. Together, we’ll explore how letting go of our limited perspective allows us to lean on God’s wisdom and trust in His timing. We’ll discover the beauty of exchanging our uncertainties and frustrations for the deeper grace God offers when we submit to His ways.
Join our community as we turn our hearts in prayer and devotion—asking God for courage to let go of our understanding and to receive His peace on the journey.

00:00:29.050 --> 00:01:20.319
Well, welcome back to the My Morning. I am excited to be joined this week with my mom. Mom, say hello to everybody. Hello, everybody. This is Gabby, your host, and we're excited to jump into day two of our submission topic or the week of submit. You know, we're not doing submission. It's all about how to submit. And I'm excited because what we're doing is we're breaking it down. Every day is a different word to finish out the word submit, to break down the word submit. And if you didn't hear yesterday's episode, you might not understand today's. Oh, understand. So go back to watch yesterday's episode. But we want to jump into it. Mom. This is a great message to take us in to step two of how to submit to a season. So the acronym submit s was yesterday, today is you, and it is understanding.
00:01:21.530 --> 00:01:58.599
Understanding. Man, it can be so hard to understand why we have to go through delays and difficult seasons, why the breakthrough's not coming, why the thing we prayed for, why the thing we've worked for, why the thing we thought we did, everything God asked us to do, and it still hasn't come through. This is where the rubber meets the road, Gabby. This is where, as a believer, if you've never been through this season before, you know you've not been through this because if you go back through it again, you've developed a little bit of understanding because you've already gone through it. And you know what God's requiring. And Proverbs 3, 5, 6 tells us, Trust in the Lord with all your heart.
00:01:58.840 --> 00:02:39.800
Not parts of your heart, all of your heart. And lean not to your own understanding. In all your ways, submit to him and he will make your path straight. Chatgpt can't fix this. We can't chatgpt our way. No to the next season of our life. As Christians, as believers, as faith walkers, we really have to just take a breath and say, lord, what do I not know here? What do I not see here? What are you trying to show me? I'm going to Give you my own understanding, Lean not on my own understanding. This word says, what is my understanding? It's limited, I can tell you that. It's based on culture.
00:02:39.800 --> 00:03:32.569
My understandings influenced by scarcity and lack that's in the culture today. It's based on finances. It's based on what I can see. It's based on experience. What you've been through. Oh, say that. That's the truth. So if I've been through something negative, that means I'm gonna go again through something negative. When we lean not to our own understanding, when we lean on God's ways, all our ways, we acknowledge him. Every part of our heart, we give over to God. You know, we can't just say the words and not really walk this out in our life. And I think that's why these five days with us together, or six days of their bonus round is so important, because it is a lesson that you will take with you throughout the rest of your life. So true. And when you face those mountains and those times where you're like, yeah, it's the climb. I hate that song. It's the Climb.
00:03:32.969 --> 00:04:48.980
I don't want to sing that song anymore. But it is. But once you go through it one time, you have an understanding that God gives you. It's so true. Based on how he sees you and what he has for you. You get his understanding and you surrender yours. Exactly. And, you know, I love what you said there about getting his understanding. God wants to share his understanding with. You how he does things. God wants you to understand how he does things. Yes. And that's the grace and the mercy of God. That's the goodness of God. Because he doesn't have to share that with us. No, but what he does is in that season when we lean not on our understanding, but we acknowledge him. Yeah. He starts to show us why he's doing what he's doing. That's good. He shows us why the spouse isn't there yet. That's right. He shows us why there's no houses on the market in your price range. He shows you maybe why the baby's not in this season for you. He shows you why that that deal isn't coming through. You get to the end and you have a new understanding. Because God led you through that and he gave you a taste of something you didn't understand before. And that's where I think we have to go back and go, wow, God is so faithful. Because he doesn't have to do that. And he doesn't.
00:04:49.860 --> 00:05:00.100
We talked about it the other day. God doesn't put us to sleep and then wake us up when the season's right. Yeah, that's right. He could. Yeah. I mean, he did it with plenty of people in the Bible. Yeah.
00:05:00.100 --> 00:05:07.339
But he keeps us wide awake. Wide awake, our eyes open, and he walks us through that season of submission. Yes, he does.
00:05:07.500 --> 00:05:57.120
And it's on us, though, to humble ourselves, to surrender to him, but to lean on his understanding. And at the end of it, we're going to gain a brand new understanding. Because everybody that comes out of a submission season or a season where they've had to surrender to God, they always come out going, I don't know who the girl was back. I know it. I know. I don't know who that guy. I don't know who I thought I was, that I thought I was ready. I was so not ready. God's grace. I get it now. I understand a level of God's grace that I'd never seen before. Exactly. He said no to me. Yes. He said, not now. Yes. And I am so grateful because he loves me and he protected me. Amen. That's the understanding he wants you to have. But you don't get to exchange your understanding, which is all your childish desires really for his without going through a season of saying, I hate this. It's not fair.
00:05:57.199 --> 00:06:00.560
It's true. It shouldn't be this way. I've been good.
00:06:01.120 --> 00:06:11.360
I go to church. I serve the Lord. I sing on the worship team. I tithe, I do everything you ask me to do. I read my Bible. I've done it all. You're getting there, but you're not there yet. That's so good.
00:06:11.439 --> 00:06:43.040
Can we pray? Can you pray us out? Lord, we just thank you again for every listener that's on this call. And we ask you that you would give them the courage to lay down their understanding, to exchange their understanding for yours. As this verse tells us, lean not into our understanding, but in all our ways acknowledge you and you will direct our paths. And that's what we need you to do, God. We need you to direct our paths today. So we pray, we thank you and we lay down our understanding in Jesus name, Amen. So there you have it.
00:06:43.040 --> 00:06:58.009
