00:00:00.096 --> 00:00:14.069
You are listening to the My Morning Devotional Podcast, episode 1495. Today's devo is called True Alignment. Hey there, we're the Alessis, a ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida.
00:00:14.069 --> 00:00:29.068
And if you're like us, when days get busy and to-do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time. That's why we've partnered with our friend Allison to produce a 5-minute daily dose of heaven. This is the My Morning Devotional podcast.
00:00:29.068 --> 00:00:33.256
Happy Friday, everybody! We made it to the end of the week.
00:00:33.256 --> 00:01:05.228
I hope you're feeling good. TGIF! Thank God it's Friday. It's the weekend, and, uh, I hope you guys have some plans with your friends or your family. Thinking about last or yesterday's episode, maybe you need to rest this weekend and find rest in the Lord. Maybe that's your plans for the weekend. But I want to talk about our last inconsistency, the last little fox in our garden that we got to shoo away. Which, I don't have the opposite of this, but I have the thing that we need to work on, which is being in alignment with the Lord.
00:01:05.228 --> 00:01:09.293
So maybe the opposite would be in separation from God, right?
00:01:10.096 --> 00:01:16.152
Psalm 119:105 says this your word is a lamp for my feet and a light on my path.
00:01:16.152 --> 00:02:17.417
In our lives, if we're not careful, We could let the words of others, the opinions of others, our own opinions, the, the news headlines, the fear from other people. If we're not careful, we can let those things lead us. We can let those be a light into our path. We, we hear about stories from other people. We hear, we watch, we turn the news on in the morning and we hear about what's happening on the other side of the world. And all of those things can actually harm us because we think that is what's lighting up our path and showing us what's next. You know, I, I think about it. It was a couple weeks ago that I was on Instagram and I was scrolling and I saw this, um, really famous pastor and he had a, a great video clip of one of his sermons and I was listening to it and I love what he was saying. I— it was on point, it was on point, but some of it wasn't I don't want to say it wasn't sitting right, like he was wrong, because he was right, but some of it just kind of confused me.
00:02:17.417 --> 00:02:32.629
And it didn't convict me, but it did cause me to get a little confused about how I'm viewing being a believer, you know, my walk with the Lord and how I view God. And again, the person wasn't saying anything wrong, but it did challenge me in my thinking.
00:02:32.629 --> 00:02:40.040
So I was thinking about it more, and I was like, you know, I've just always seen Christianity this way. I've always seen following God this way.
00:02:40.040 --> 00:02:57.272
And it was the first time that I thought, wow, Lord, maybe I've, I've got something wrong. So I was cleaning my house the day after, and I was mopping. And the best time to speak to the Lord is when you're cleaning your house, nobody's home, it's the best. And I just had a moment where I'm like, Lord, I am challenged by this.
00:02:57.272 --> 00:03:16.681
And maybe it's conviction, maybe it's just confusion, but Lord, I want to make sure I'm in alignment with your word, and I want to make sure I'm believing the truth that you have instilled, that I'm believing God's truth. I'm not just believing another opinion or interpretation, right? Interpretation of what this person said.
00:03:16.681 --> 00:03:47.995
I'd also say this, this is a quick side note. This is why social media can be really, um, harmful to us, because I might take, as a listener, as a viewer of this pastor's message, I might take the word that is specifically for his flock because he is a shepherd over a flock. I might take his message that God gave him for that flock and try to give it to me or apply it to me when I've been given a shepherd that is my Father, that he has words from God that's supposed to be for me and our flock.
00:03:47.995 --> 00:03:58.073
So that's why with social media you have to be so careful. And this is where this truth is so important, because that was what was happening. What he was telling his people, I felt like it wasn't fully aligned with what I knew.
00:03:58.073 --> 00:04:07.993
And so when I took it to the Lord, I had a moment where I said, God, I submit my understanding, my, my opinion, you know, what is natural to me, for me to believe. I submit it to you.
00:04:07.993 --> 00:04:16.651
Within 24 hours, the Lord really confirmed through his word how that word was true and also how it applied to me.
00:04:16.651 --> 00:05:12.269
And then he showed me some blind spots that I do have, because we all naturally have it. But it was a moment where I had to get in real alignment with the Lord, that frankly it would've been easy for me to go, this guy's wrong. No, no, no. I know how Christianity works. I know how following God works. I've been doing it a long time. I'm a pastor's daughter. I'm a youth minister. I could do it. That is the easier mindset to, to believe, right? But I did have to go, God, if there's any unalignment, misalignment, whatever that word is, if I'm not aligned, God, show me. And God, I ask for forgiveness, and I ask that you would align my heart. I ask, Lord, that you would get me in right standing with you, because I don't want my life and my path to be lit up by anything else but the light of God and the word of God. That's the life that I want to live. And if I'm wrong, Lord, show me where I'm wrong.
00:05:12.269 --> 00:05:22.565
If there are blind spots, show it to me. And you know what I've learned about blind spots? The majority of my blind spots have been exposed by other people.
00:05:22.565 --> 00:05:48.367
I wish when I asked God a question, I wish the Bible on my counter would just start flipping open and God would show me the verse. I wish it would happen that way. But you know what happened when I asked the Lord what happened? Or God, what does this verse mean? The next day on Valentine's Day, my husband and I had a whole conversation, and it was my husband that explained— exposed the blind spot. There have been times where I asked the Lord, God, show me this. 24 hours later, it's my mom.
00:05:48.367 --> 00:05:55.915
It's a leader in the church. It's people that I don't want to receive it from, but God's like, no, I'm going to show it through the people around you.
00:05:55.915 --> 00:06:03.031
We all have blind spots. We all have areas that we're not fully aligned with God's word, and that's okay. We're still working to do that.
00:06:03.031 --> 00:06:29.091
I don't know if here on Earth we're ever going to be fully aligned with the word of God and get it. We're going to have things that we have to work on. We're going to have the little foxes and these inconsistencies that we have to work on. But as long as we keep God's word as the light unto our pathway, as long as we keep God's word as the foundation of our lives, that maybe one day we're a little off, but we know the source to get back on.
00:06:29.091 --> 00:06:44.533
That's what's important for us, that we don't lose sight of the word of God, that we don't start searching for God's word in other pastors or other speakers or the pastor that makes you just feel good about yourself. Or the motivational speaker that adds to our ego.
00:06:44.533 --> 00:06:58.822
No, we need to go back to the word of God and say, Father, show me where I'm aligned or my— I'm not aligned. Show me where I'm blind, God. Show me the foxes in our life. That's why we wanted to do this whole series, is because all of us are inconsistent.
00:06:58.822 --> 00:07:13.874
All of us have things that keep us from, from glorifying God. The Bible says all have fallen short, so We're going to fall short, but we have to make sure that we are striving and working to find alignment and to glorify God.
00:07:13.874 --> 00:08:00.889
So I hope this week blessed you, and I hope at the end of this week— the reason why I wanted to do this, this topic today is because whether it's fear, whether it's control, being a busybody, our speech, whatever it is, all of those things have to get aligned with the word of God. And whatever inconsistencies my sisters have talked about, my sisters will talk about in the next couple weeks, all of them have to align at the end of the day with God's word. Our lives have to align with it because his word is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path. I love it. There's a part that says, I will hide my word, or his word, in my heart so I might not sin against God. Let us all have a heart that says, God, we want to hide your word word in our heart because we don't want to sin against you.
00:08:00.889 --> 00:08:04.918
Come on, let's pray. Father, I just thank you. I thank you for this week.
00:08:04.918 --> 00:08:51.440
God, I thank you that you give us grace for our inconsistencies, for the blind spots that we have. But Lord, that you send voices, that you send your spirit, you sent your son to expose them and to help us grow out of these inconsistencies. Father, they may never away from one day to the next, but slowly but surely, by your grace and by your strength, we can grow out of them and we can start walking and striving and living a life that pleases you daily. God, we hide your word in our hearts that we might not sin against you, and we thank you for it. In Jesus' name, amen. So there you have it, your 5-minute daily dose of heaven. Thank you so much for tuning in today. We pray these devotionals empower empower you to take on your day.
