Hello, everyone. My name is Lauren Burgos, and I am your host for this week. We are reading out of James 3, and we have basically read up until verse 7. No, verse 8. And now we are on verse 9. And if you've missed the other episodes, I highly suggest you go back and you read them. I personally think, I think they're pretty good. I like them. And I hope you've been enjoying this. James 3 is like broken up in two parts. It talks about like taming the tongue, and then it talks about wisdom, which you're kind of like, oh, these are two separate things. But as you read it, you're like, no, this perfectly goes together. Because how do you tame the tongue with godly wisdom? So if you haven't gone back and listened to the episodes, I suggest you do. I also suggest you just go ahead and read James 3 completely and entirely for yourself. Because I think that's just an extra bonus point so that you can enjoy reading the word of God for yourself. I think it's great to do that. And also to get your own sort of interpretation for uh from James 3, because I think it's just great. And like we said, we were reading through the book of James, like as a devotional podcast together. And James personally has been like kicking my butt. I think it's great. I think everyone should reread it if you haven't in a while. Anyways, let's jump right into the word. We're gonna be reading out of, well, our key verse of the day is gonna be James 3, 10, but I'm gonna read a little bit more. I'm gonna read out of verses nine through 12, because I think it's important to have it all. And it starts with verse 9. It says this with the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings who have been made in God's likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be. Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring? My brothers and sisters, can a fig tree bear olives or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water. And let's go back to the key verse here that says, Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be. This is all we basically need for this day. We tend to praise God on one day and then curse somebody else on another day. And it James simply says, My brothers and sisters, we we shouldn't be doing that. It doesn't make sense. Can a fig tree bear olives or a grapevine bear figs? And I think that's like a very biblical analogy, right? But it's basically saying, like, can an apple tree grow oranges? No, because that's not how an apple tree works. And that's not how our mouths and our tongue should work. If we're gonna speak blessings to God, we should be speaking blessings to God. And if we're going to be speaking curses to others, then you know what? Let that be the fruit of our lives. Because I think what he's saying here goes even farther. Like what we speak becomes the fruit of our lives. That's why he's using a tree analogy. That's why he's talking about fresh and salt water flowing from the same spring, because it's coming from a source, which is why we're talking about the source today. So, can I ask you, what is your source? Is it a source of blessing or is it a source of curses? And if you are someone who's like kind of going back and forth, well, we're human, we all do, but bear this in mind. James says, My brothers and sisters, this should not be. This is not how it should be. If you're gonna be someone who blesses God, bless God in all things. But if you're gonna be someone who who speaks curses and who speaks negativity and who's who speaks down to everybody, then then okay, you know what? That's the kind of life you're gonna live. And that is the you're gonna get the fruit of that. But if you're somebody who wants to who wants to pray to God and bless God, then that should be the fruit of your life outside of church and outside of your relationship with God to others. Because a lot of times we find ourselves in this dissonance, and I think it's normal because we're human, but we're praying to God for our blessing, but then we're speaking jealous words for other people who get the blessing. I've been there, I know what it's like, but that doesn't make sense because if we knew God would come through for us, we don't have to feel the insecurity that He blessed others and not us. So that's where James is saying, Well, where's your source from? Is it a fresh water or a salt water source? Is it is it a fig tree or is it an olive tree? What's the source? Because whatever your source is, that's the fruit you're going to bear. I love this verse because it's so straight to the point. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. And my brothers and sisters, this should not be. And like I said on Monday, like start to really observe your words throughout the day. I hope you've been doing that throughout this week. Like, what is coming out of your mouth? And I'm not saying we're not human, like you're gonna get mad at your kids, you're gonna get annoyed at people, like it happens. But I'm talking about when you are in church on Sunday and you're like, God's gonna come through for me. You guys watch and you're in the lobby at church on Sunday and you're talking about how God's gonna provide, but then you're also with your friends and you're gossiping about somebody else who God came through for. That's that's different. That's what I'm talking about. Because we're human and it's I'm sure even Jesus got annoyed of people and he's like, gosh, this person's walking too slow. You know, that's not what I'm talking about. Um like a real heart level come cursings out of your mouth. That should not be. And if Jesus is your source, you're like, I don't even need to talk down to that person. That that doesn't even need to come from me because I know who my source is and I know God's gonna provide for me. And I can bless them because I know who my provider is. And I know I'm going long, but I just want to I want to take this short thing of maybe like you have an offense built up towards somebody. This is not gonna be a whole nother podcast towards offense. If you have felt an offense towards somebody, here's my piece of advice read The Bait of Satan by John Vivere. That's the greatest advice I could give you. But if an of if curses are coming out of your mouth due to offense, again, who's your source? Is it your own vindication that you're leaning on for a source, or is it God's justice? That's what I'm just gonna leave you with today. But also do the bait of Satan by John Vivere. It's really good. But let us pray. Dear God, this podcast was all over the place, but Lord, that's because um your word makes it pretty clear so that Lord, we can be all over the place with our thoughts and our minds, but Lord, we still know who our source and our provider is, Lord. We should not be speaking blessings and cursings out of the same mouth, God. And we know that, Lord. And Lord, if if we feel convicted about that right now, Lord, that's a good thing. But Lord, forgive us for doing that. We don't want to be speaking blessings and cursings out of the same mouth. We don't want to do that. We want you to be our true and only source, Lord. So help us speak blessings only, God, blessing only you and blessing only your children. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
