You're listening to the My Morning Devotional podcast, episode 1395. Today's Devo is called the Perfect Balance. Hey there. We're the Alessies, a ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida. And if you're like us, when days get busy and to do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time. That's why we've partnered with our friend Allison to produce a five minute daily dose of heaven. This is the My Morning Devotional podcast. Well, happy Friday, everybody. We have officially made it to the end of the week, and we have just spent this entire week thanking the Lord for who he is. We thank God for his character. We thank God for his love. We thank God for his presence. We thank God for his faithfulness. And today, we thank God for his justice and his mercy. We thank God for his righteousness.

00:00:55.179 --> 00:01:13.340
It's a pretty strong way to end the week and even an interesting thing to take into the weekend that we settle on. But I think it's important because, you know, justice and mercy can be hard for us to understand as believers because in some moments the justice of God can be so strong.

00:01:13.420 --> 00:02:05.140
Meanwhile, the mercy of God can be so sweet. And we believe that one plays a part in and the other doesn't, when really God's character is all happening at once. When God shows justice, he's also showing mercy. And when God shows mercy, he's also showing his justice. And that's why the episode is called the Perfect Balance, because God has created a perfect balance of justice and mercy that we can rely on. And I love this verse in Psalms 80, 89. It's Psalms 89, 14. It says righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne. Love and faithfulness go before you. And I love this picture of almost that balance that we're talking about. We're at the foundation of the throne of God is righteousness and justice.

00:02:06.019 --> 00:02:12.849
That God does not go back on the standards that he has set. The things that he has called good are good.

00:02:13.330 --> 00:02:35.490
The things that he has called evil are evil. It goes back to his unchanging character. God's not going to change that fact. And as much as we might want to change it, God's not going to change it. So those are the foundation of his throne. That's something he's established in the earth and in our belief system. And who he is in his character, it's at the foundation. It's at his core.

00:02:36.210 --> 00:02:43.650
And love and faithfulness are going before him. Everywhere he goes, you see his love and his faithfulness.

00:02:43.650 --> 00:02:50.409
Everywhere he moves, you see his love and his faithfulness. And I feel like this is the perfect picture of the balance of justice and mercy.

00:02:51.370 --> 00:03:32.479
You know, when something happens in life, in a believer's life, if you look closely, you will see the justice of God and the mercy of God at hand. And it might be hard for us to fully grasp what that is. But when you look closely or you ask the Lord to show you, you will see love, you'll see justice, you'll see mercy, you'll see righteousness playing a part, because that's who God is. He is a just God. If there is something that's not right around him in us, God will make it right because that's who he is at his core. And if God needs to show mercy, he will show his mercy.

00:03:32.960 --> 00:03:43.280
And that's something we need to be grateful for. Here's why we need to be grateful for it. We live in a world and also we are people that we will bend the rules.

00:03:43.599 --> 00:03:47.359
We'll kind of skirt around what's just and what's merciful.

00:03:48.800 --> 00:04:06.819
We will kind of maybe move on emotions sometimes and we'll make our mind up on what's the right thing to do, what's just, and then what's merciful. We need God to show us what is righteous, what is just, what is merciful, what is faithful.

00:04:07.460 --> 00:04:54.870
We can't do it on our own. People are trying. People are trying to make their own decisions and are trying to call things that are not right right. And it's not working out for us. We need to depend on the Lord's justice and his mercy. And I am so grateful that God is an unmoving, unshakable, never changing God that can stand there and say this is right, this is wrong. Aren't you grateful for that? Aren't you grateful that we serve a God that doesn't change what his, what he believes, but not just what he believes. What he created and what he made, he's never changing. His justice and his mercy are our purposes, perfect for us. And we can rely on that today. Father, thank you for your justice.

00:04:55.189 --> 00:05:09.990
Thank you for your mercy. Thank you for your righteousness. And I pray Lord, that you continue to stir up a season or a spirit of gratefulness and thankfulness in every listener and Lord, I pray that you continue to show us your justice and your mercy.

00:05:09.990 --> 00:05:34.449
