Speaker:

You're listening to the My Morning Devotional podcast, episode 1520. Today's Devo is called the Helper. Hey there. We're the Alessies, a ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida. And if you're like us, when days get busy and to do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time. That's why we've partnered with our friend Allison to produce a five minute daily dose of heaven. This is the My Morning Devotional podcast. Well, happy Friday, everybody. We have made it to the end of the week. This is your host, Gabby. And I have so enjoyed just this last week of devotionals. I'm looking back at all my notes, and I'm just so grateful that the Lord has given us the Holy Spirit. And I really hope our biggest takeaway over this week is that that we're grateful that God has given us a secret weapon in this world that can give us wisdom, that can give us discernment, that can give us power. Tell us when, you know, our life might be a little off or when we're doing right and we're living according to his word and his will. And then also he gives us these spiritual gifts that we can, like, use as, like, ninjas in the Spirit to, like, figure things out. I just think it's so incredible that God not only gave us salvation, but he gave us the Holy Spirit. Like, that is such a blessing. And to wrap up this week, I wanted to end with one of my favorite attributes of the Holy Spirit, which is the helper. I think this is the best way to end our week on the Holy Spirit, because the Holy Spirit gives you power. It gives us gifts, it gives us knowledge, it gives us the fruit, all of it. But one of the best qualities of the Spirit is that he is our helper. And in John 14-26, it says this. But the helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. The word helper. The Greek term used here is parakletos. If you are Greek and you are listening to this podcast. I know that I'm not pronouncing this correctly, but just go with me. And this word, parakletos, it refers to a legal assistant in a court who pleads someone's case before the judge. So the writer here is using this word to basically describe what the Holy Spirit does for us. The judge in this scenario is God, and the people are judged based on whether they follow Jesus's command to believe that eternal life comes through his death and resurrection. When on earth, Jesus was the means for believers to interact with God the Father, since their sin prevented them from doing so directly. The Spirit is sent to do the same work. So just like Jesus was sent to be our advocate, right? To be the one that stands in the gap. The Word says that no one can get to the Father except going through Jesus. Jesus was the one that was sent, and we can't have salvation without Him. Well, the Spirit is sent to do the same work. The Spirit is the one that will plead your case to the judge. God, when it comes to our life here on earth, this is so useful. Why? Because we have to recognize the Spirit is always watching. The Spirit is actively involved in our lives. The Spirit is not only involved when we call on him or involve Him, the spirit is watching us. 24 7. The spirit is God. So that does mean he is also omnipresent. He is everywhere, all at once. So the Spirit is watching the actions that we take, the decisions that we make, the words that we speak, the relationships that we have, what we do in those relationships. The Spirit is watching us. And as a helper, he will go to the Father, he will go to the Lord on our behalf. He will speak for you. He will advocate for you. But the negative side of that is if our life here on earth isn't a life that believes Jesus is Lord and lives in his will and listens to his words and actually takes those actions of a believer, if our life doesn't exhibit that, then the Holy Spirit will reveal that. I remember growing up, my mom would always tell me, gabby, if you don't tell me, you know, the Holy Spirit will. And I thought, okay. And I didn't realize the power of the Holy Spirit because I was just too young to understand. And there was a time that I was talking to a boy I shouldn't have been talking to, and I was too young, and I was texting him a little bit too late at night. And one day asked my mom something. And as we're talking, she turns to me and she goes, are you talking to a boy? And like, the pit in my stomach, I wanted to throw up. I was like, what? And she goes, yeah, the Holy Spirit told me, you're talking to somebody. And I was mortified because it was the first time I realized the Spirit's watching me. The Spirit listens. And yes, the Spirit is a helper, but he helps us on behalf of our lives here on Earth, whether to see or to see whether we are glorifying God or not, if we are living a life that is pleasing to him or not. And I don't want to be so, so negative here, but we do have to remember that the Spirit sees all things. Because we can just see the helper as being, oh, he's such. He's the best. He just helps me. But he. The term that he's using is that he pleads someone's case in a court. But the other side of that is if we're absent of the Holy Spirit and we're not living a life where the Holy Spirit is active in us, then he won't plead our case further on. In the verse, it says this, that the Spirit will teach you all things, and he will bring to remembrance all that God has said to you. It says, I have said to you. What does that mean that Jesus has said to you? So the other side of this helper is that he will teach you things, he'll show you things, he'll help you interpret parts of God. That's what's so beautiful about the Holy Spirit. Cause he gives us revelation. When you're reading His Word, one day you might not understand it, the next day you read it later, and it. All of a sudden the words come off the page. Why, that's the Holy Spirit teaching you things and giving you revelation. But then the second thing is that the Holy Spirit will bring to remembrance what Jesus has said. How many times have you been in a situation where you're not even thinking about the Lord? You're not thinking about his words, and all of a sudden the Word of God just comes to your mind. That's the Holy Spirit bringing it to your remembrance. One of the examples of this is that when Jesus sends out his disciples to go and, and make other disciples and preach and stand before judges and stand before kings and principalities, all these things he tells them, when you go, don't worry about what you're going to say. The Holy Spirit will give you the words to say. That's the Holy Spirit bringing remembrance to you. Bringing remembrance of the words that Jesus said to you. So whatever it is you're doing in life, don't worry. Because the Holy Spirit just. Just act. Because the Holy Spirit will bring those things to your mind. He will empower you in those moments. He is our helper. He will please your case. He will teach you, and he will bring Jesus's words back to your memory. This has been such a blessing. I hope this has blessed you. I hope it's empowered you. I hope it's taught us some more about the Holy Spirit. But I don't want it to stop at just being taught. I don't want it to stop at knowledge. Let's take this into action. Be empowered. Start to walk in the fruit of the Spirit. Start to use your spiritual gifts. If you don't know what they are, ask the Lord what they are. Ask him to reveal them to you. Talk to your pastor about it. Maybe you have a leader in your church, a mentor in your church. Ask them about the spiritual gifts because you want to make sure that you are, you're doing things in alignment with your shepherd. And then lastly, use the help of the Holy Spirit. Let him teach you more and let him bring to remembrance all that Jesus has done. Father, we just thank you for this week. We thank you for your spirit. What a gift the Holy Spirit is to our lives. We thank you for what he adds to us and what he provides for us. And I just pray that all of us would walk emboldened, empowered, ready Lord, to fulfill our calling in life, our purpose in life that you've given us. And we use the Holy Spirit for it. In Jesus name we pray. Amen. So there you have it. Your 5 minute daily dose of heaven. Thank you so much for tuning in today. We pray these devotionals empower you to take on your day.
