The Bible's Best Work

The Bible's Best Work

What does it mean to truly trust the Bible? In today's episode, we journey together with Rochelle and Chris Alessi as they explore why the Bible is called both the best work of God and the best work of humankind. We'll discover how scripture came to be, what it means to have faith that God was involved not just in the writing but also in the collection of these sacred texts, and why we can rely on the Bible to guide us every day. You're listening to my Morning Devotional podcast, episode 1317.

00:00:04.400 --> 00:00:07.280
Today's Devo is called the Bible's Best Work.

00:00:08.400 --> 00:00:26.320
Hey there. We're the Alessies, a ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida. And if you're like us, when days get busy and to do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time. That's why we've partnered with our friend Allison to produce a five minute daily dose of heaven.

00:00:26.870 --> 00:00:56.780
This is the My Morning Devotional Podcast. Good morning everybody and happy Tuesday. I hope you guys are having a great day so far. I know yesterday we gave you a lot of information, but we're actually going to provide in the show notes so you can have them because we know it's a lot of information, but this might be information you want to keep as you move forward with reading your Bible. And my name is Rachelle Alessi, and I have my husband Chris Alessi, this week helping me do this. Glad to be here again. Let's do it the second day.

00:00:56.780 --> 00:01:11.579
Let's go into the second day. So the second point here today is that the Bible is actually the best work of God and the best work of man. And I think that's really important because sometimes people really struggle with how we even got here. So

00:01:11.579 --> 00:01:22.219
16 says something that, you know, if you spent some time in church, you probably heard, but all scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, reproof, correction, training, and righteousness.

00:01:22.909 --> 00:01:33.390
So that shows you that you see God's hand in it quickly, like you clearly see God's hand in it. But in the verses that come right before that, second Timothy

00:01:33.390 --> 00:02:17.919
14, Paul says, as for you, continue in what you have learned and firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it and how from childhood you've been acquainted with the sacred writings. You know, all of that gives you a really good sense that that man was involved in the teaching of God's word. Man was involved. And it wasn't just to be the scripture that Timothy was supposed to remember, but also the man, the men, the women, the people that helped him. And it is women too, because earlier in Second Timothy, Paul commends the women in his life that poured into him. So all of that goes to say, when you look at the Bible, it's the best work of God and the best work of, of man.

00:02:18.240 --> 00:02:29.520
Going back to how many years it would have taken to just get the books that we have, there's 1500 years that span from when Genesis would have been written to when Revelation would have been written.

00:02:29.680 --> 00:03:03.020
And so because you have all of that, what you essentially find is somebody needed to look at all these writings and say, let me put them together. And so, yeah, there were groups of people that would have come together and they would have, through the holy spirit, they would have found a way to say, you know, this book, like we would call it in the protestant faith, some of the books of the apocrypha, that these books are not scripture. Maybe they're great history, maybe there's some things we can learn from them, but they're not God breathed. And so some people struggle with that.

00:03:03.020 --> 00:03:58.039
And especially on TikTok nowadays, you have a lot of people trying to either discredit certain bible books, or they try to discredit the fact that man was even involved. But, you know, I really struggle with their struggle, because the reality is, is if God was going to be involved in the writing of the books, wouldn't he also be involved in the assembling of the books? Of course he would be. If God wanted to say things to certain people, to get them written down for our benefit, wouldn't he also want to make sure that the people that wanted to write things that would hurt us would not be brought together with the works that he's trying to make to help us? So the reality is that people start to struggle with the idea that man is involved in scripture. Well, man is involved in everything we're doing.

00:03:58.520 --> 00:04:02.120
Man is involved in the vaccines we get, the medicine that we take.

00:04:02.120 --> 00:04:34.939
Man is involved in the. In the shows that we watch and the shows we let our kids watch. Man is involved in everything that we do. Which means it makes total sense that man would also be involved in the collection of scripture, the same way that the spirit would have worked through Paul and Moses to write the words we now call scripture, God would also have the spirit be involved in the men and the groups that came together over time to put the collection of what we now call the bible together.

00:04:35.500 --> 00:05:48.790
And so if anybody struggles with that, you should also sit and think, even though there are tiktokers who are trying to do this, there's never really been reform in scripture. There's never really been a moment in church history where we've said we got that one wrong. In fact, with every passing century, all we actually have is more proof, right, that the bible we have and the collection of works in the bible are exactly what God would have wanted. And even though Paul didn't know it yet, when Paul said all scripture is God breathed, he didn't know that would refer to his own writing. And so it's important to note the Spirit was working through them the way the Spirit works through us. There are many times I get off the platform and you know what I was trying to say and I said things I, I had never thought before. And even you and I can say that wasn't me, that was the Spirit. Right. The Spirit is still moving today. We don't create new scripture because the Spirit decided what would be scripture. The Spirit decided what would be closed in scripture. And so we believe we have a closed canon. We believe the scripture will not be added to.

00:05:49.269 --> 00:06:07.899
And why is that important for you today? It's because it means you can trust. Means it's the best work of God, it's the best work of man. And there's not going to be any updates that are coming in. It means if you put your faith in it, you can take it to the bank. Wow, I love that.

00:06:08.699 --> 00:06:41.720
It's so true. Is the one thing we can trust because it's never going to change. Can you pray us out? Absolutely, Lord, we've said a lot here today, but I just pray that you would help your people, those who are leaning into this podcast, Lord, that you would help them know they can trust your word because your spirit was involved in its writing, in its collection, and how you will make it make sense for them. In Jesus name, amen. Amen. So there you have it, your five minute daily dose of heaven. Thank you so much for tuning in today.
