The Beginning Of Wisdom

The Beginning Of Wisdom

What does it look like to find true wisdom in our everyday lives? In today’s episode, host Lauren Alessi invites us on a month-long journey through the book of Proverbs, beginning with the foundation of wisdom itself. Together, we’ll explore what it really means to “fear the Lord” and how aligning our hearts with God’s Word can transform the way we make decisions. As a community, we’ll reflect on whether we are letting God’s voice guide our choices or if we’re relying on our own understanding.

Come along as we seek God’s guidance and ask Him to fill us with discernment for the days ahead. Let’s join together in prayer and devotion, trusting that as we seek, we will find—because true wisdom begins with Him.

You're listening to the My Morning Devotional podcast, episode 1346. Today's episode is called the Beginning of Wisdom. Hey there.

00:00:10.720 --> 00:00:36.950
We're the Alessi's, a ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida. And if you're like us, when days get busy and to do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time. That's why we've partnered with our friend Allison to produce a five minute daily dose of heaven. This is the My Morning Devotional podcast. Hello, everyone, my name is Lauren Alessi and I will be your host for this week.

00:00:37.350 --> 00:01:06.069
Happy Labor Day, everybody. Actually, hope you are enjoying this wonderful day off, but we're going to be starting Today's podcast on September 1st, and we want to walk you through the book of Proverbs throughout the whole month. So me and my sisters, we will take a verse out of a chapter of. Basically, we will take one verse out of one chapter of the book of Proverbs for every day of this month and walk it through together.

00:01:06.549 --> 00:01:28.799
So I'm pretty excited for this because, not to brag, but I think Lauren means like something about, I'm gonna look it up. Hold on. The meaning of my name, Lauren, it has something to do with wisdom. No, that's not correct at all. Well, one time I did hear something about my name meaning something with wisdom, but that's besides the point.

00:01:28.799 --> 00:01:32.400
We're going to jump right into the book of Proverbs and wisdom

00:01:32.799 --> 00:01:36.480
7. And it says this.

00:01:36.480 --> 00:01:54.129
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge. Some translations say the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. But fools despise wisdom and instruction. I love this verse so much because a lot of times you'll see this in Proverbs and it's like, if you want to get wisdom, fear the Lord.

00:01:54.609 --> 00:02:09.490
The beginning of wisdom is this. Fear God. And here it just says this. The fear of the Lord. That's the beginning of knowledge. That's the beginning of wisdom. And fools are the ones who despise, not just don't listen to, but despise wisdom and instruction.

00:02:10.129 --> 00:04:16.060
And I think what that shows us is that ultimate wisdom starts with a fear and a reverence for God and what God has to say. It starts with the fear and reverence for God's Word. True knowledge and true wisdom isn't about just being able to spit a ton of facts out. And when you have, you know, a round table discussion with your friends about who knows the most about God or Theology or politics or celebrity gossip. No, that's not true wisdom. That's not true knowledge. True knowledge is about aligning your life with God's truth with God's Word. That's true wisdom right there. So while others are chasing, you know, human wisdom, while others are chasing self help those who fear the Lord and those who are wise and want to walk with the Lord, we will be aligned to God's Word and what he says is good for us. Fearing the Lord simply means respecting him, trusting His Word and letting his authority guide our decisions. So let's just pause and ask ourselves today as we start off this month wanting to learn about wisdom, wanting to be more wise in maybe our own eyes, maybe others eyes, maybe God's eyes. Let's ask ourselves, are we letting God's voice be the starting point for our decisions our or are we leaning on our own understanding? Let's just pause, let's just reflect and let's just ask that God, am I leaning on my own understanding or Lord, am I turning to your ways, God, to be the voice and the starting point for my decisions and my choices God and let's pray. Dear Lord, we thank you so much for your powerful word God. How it doesn't just cover awesome stories God or awesome revelation Lord, but it also touches on wisdom, Lord and how to make wise decisions God, how to walk out our every day life, God and just simple decisions and choices we make. And Lord, if there's someone listening Lord, who feels like, okay, I've been leaning on my own understanding God, show them Lord how to lean on you for your own understanding, Lord.

00:04:16.379 --> 00:05:03.069
And God, if there's someone who feels like they really want to gain more wisdom and more understanding from you, Lord, show them how to do that practically Lord, we just lift up this month of September to you God. May we all glean from it and get more wisdom and more understanding. Because we know that those who seek will find and those who ask, we will be given the answer and we are grateful for it. In Jesus name we pray. Amen. So there you have it. Your 5 minute daily dose of heaven. Thank you so much for tuning in today. We pray these devotionals empower you to take on your day.
