Straight Paths

Straight Paths

What does it look like to truly trust when life feels uncertain? In today’s episode, host Lauren Alessi invites us to reflect on the wisdom found in Proverbs and to learn from King Solomon, a leader who chose wisdom above riches or power. Together, we’ll explore what it means to lean into God’s understanding rather than our own—especially when we’re anxious about our families, our future, or simply navigating the challenges of everyday life.

Let’s uncover practical ways to submit every part of our hearts to God, believing that He will make our paths straight and guide us through every worry or decision.

Join us as we pray together for the courage to trust fully and the peace that comes from giving all areas of our lives to Him.

You're listening to the My Morning Devotional podcast, episode 1348. Today's Devo is called Straight Paths. Hey there. We're the Alessies, a ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida. And if you're like us, when days get busy and to do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time. That's why we've partnered with our friend Allison to produce a five minute daily dose of heaven. This is the My Morning Devotional podcast. Hello, everyone. My name is Lauren Alessi and I am your host this week. And we are talking about the book of Proverbs and we are talking about wisdom. We're doing it for this whole month. And I'm so excited because it's a subject I really love talking about and I really love living out more than anything today's verse. Before we want to read it, I thought it'd be a good visual to get in our head about the author of Proverbs. The author of Proverbs was Solomon, who was a very, very successful man. And Solomon was the king of Israel in his time, David's son, but also God spoke to him and said, solomon, whatever you want, you can have ask for anything. I'll give you anything. He could have literally said, I want, you know, I want this much money. I want, I want three kingdoms, you know, I want this. God said, whatever you ask, I will give it to you. And Solomon said, honestly, I just want to be a wise king.

00:01:24.980 --> 00:02:25.650
Give me wisdom, Lord. And the Lord not only granted him wisdom. Well, let's not say granted. He's not a genie. The Lord not only gave him great wisdom beyond what people could believe, but the Lord added so much more to his life because him asking for wisdom. So it's this beautiful story we see, and it's this beautiful king we see who just wanted to be a wise king unto the Lord, but because of it, he was also very, very successful. So now that we know this, that Solomon's a very successful, a very great king, he writes a book on wisdom and how to live a wise, successful life. So this is more than just a Bible chapter. This is a manual for how to live a really, really great life. And I think sometimes we like the verse today we read. It's a very common verse. Most of us have heard it, and we just kind of tuck it away in our heart, like, oh, it's such a sweet verse and it's so good. But if we apply it to our lives, almost like it's a very, very successful Businessman giving us business advice.

00:02:27.009 --> 00:02:30.129
Imagine how it can totally transform our advice.

00:02:30.770 --> 00:02:45.169
So let's picture Solomon, very successful king, very successful businessman. And this is what he said. Today's verse is Proverbs 3, 5, 6. And this is what he says. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.

00:02:45.789 --> 00:03:24.870
In all your ways, submit to him and he will make your paths straight. Again. It's a verse we hear so often, and sometimes it gets, you know, like, for me, this is a verse that's written on a piece of paper in my mirror, and I repeat it to myself every morning. But let's picture that being spoken over us by, like, one of the most successful businessmen of our days, one of the most successful politicians of our days, just giving us advice. And this is the advice they give us. Don't trust on your own understanding. Trust in the Lord. Don't lean on your own understanding. But in all your ways, submit to the Lord and watch. He's going to make your path straight.

00:03:25.509 --> 00:03:29.349
And I think if we apply that to our life, like, it's practical advice.

00:03:29.909 --> 00:03:40.189
Like, even when you're wondering, okay, but who am I going to marry? Hey, don't lean on your own understanding for that. Like, God's got you in all your ways, submit to him and he's going to make your path straight.

00:03:40.189 --> 00:03:48.740
Or, how do I know my kids are going to be okay and their education is going to be taken care of? Because look at the economy. How do I know, you know God's going to provide for a house? How do I just know?

00:03:48.819 --> 00:03:59.860
Like, look at the day and age we live in. And then you have this very successful man speaking over you, very successful businessman saying, hey, look, trust in the Lord with all your heart.

00:03:59.939 --> 00:04:33.550
If you lean on your own understanding, you're going to fail. So lean on the Lord's understanding and in all your ways, everything you do, submit to him and he will make your path straight. So let's do this. Let's think of one area where we really feel like we're just leaning on our own understanding. Maybe we are stressed out about today's economy. Maybe we are stressed out about finding a spouse or a house. I love that. I always love that. Maybe we're stressed out about, I don't know, your kids.

00:04:33.550 --> 00:04:41.050
Maybe you're stressed out about just life. Maybe you've lost a family member recently. Maybe you have a family member who's going through something really tough.

00:04:41.050 --> 00:04:52.050
Maybe it's just life is tough. We're all going through our own things. But where's one area where it's very, very difficult for you to trust in the Lord with all your heart.

00:04:53.089 --> 00:04:56.889
Let's think about that one thing and let's pray about that one thing.

00:04:56.889 --> 00:05:37.329
Dear Lord, we just submit every area of our life to you. Not 50% of our life. Not 75%. Not 99%. No God 100% of our ways Lord, we submit to you. The areas we don't fully understand, the areas we do fully understand. God. We submit everything to you Lord so God show us how to submit them in our everyday lives Lord Lord, we just trust that you will make our path straight. In Jesus name we pray. Amen. So there you have it. Your 5 minute daily dose of heaven. Thank you so much for tuning in today.
