Sit Down And Be Humble

What does it really look like to practice humility in our everyday lives? In today’s episode, host Stephanie Muiña invites us to reflect on the wisdom found in Proverbs 25:6-7, encouraging us to explore the difference between striving for recognition and embracing a humble heart. Together, we’ll learn the value of waiting patiently for God’s timing, choosing diligence and consistency over self-promotion, and trusting that it is God—not people—who brings true promotion and purpose into our lives.
Join us as we unite in prayer and devotion, asking God to help us walk in humility and excellence as we serve Him and others each day.

You're listening to the My Morning Devotional podcast, episode 1364. Today's Diva was called Sit Down, Be Humble. Hey there. We're the Alessies, a ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida. And if you're like us, when days get busy and to do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time. That's why we've partnered with our friend Allison to produce a five minute daily dose of heaven. This is the My Morning Devotional Podcast. Good morning, everybody. Stephanie here. Happy Thursday. I pray that this series has encouraged you all. I pray that it's encouraged you and motivated you to read your proverbs. It is so important to dive into wisdom because it could just illuminate us in the simplest ways. So I'm only going to read a verse from this next chapter of Proverbs, but of course, when the devo is done, go ahead and finish the entire chapter because it is just so, so encouraging. So let's do it. Proverbs 25 says, do not exalt yourself in the king's presence and do not claim a place among his great men. It is better for him to say to you, come up here, than for him to humiliate you before his nobles. So I know this is an interesting verse to choose, but it is a wisdom that I've even lately had to operate by.
00:01:23.299 --> 00:02:17.830
You know, when I was a little girl, I went to a wedding. I was probably 7 years old, 7 or 8 years old. And I remember this wedding like it was yesterday. And it was the time of the reception where the bride was going to toss the bouquet behind her head to all the single women. And whoever caught it was going to get married next. That silly game. Well, I was too young to understand what that game meant. I, I saw it at another wedding and I thought, that is so much fun. I want to go catch the bouquet. I want to be there to catch it. But I didn't understand that that game is primarily for like, single people, single women especially. And here I am, a seven year old girl wanting to catch this bouquet. So I ran to the group of ladies, all geared up to catch this bouquet. No one saw me, no one stopped me. And the bride throws the bouquet back behind her head.
00:02:17.830 --> 00:02:29.509
And in my seven year old aggression, I launched forward and I caught it. I caught the bouquet and I was so excited, I couldn't believe I actually did that.
00:02:29.509 --> 00:03:13.650
I felt very accomplished only to look around and everyone just be looking at me like, girl, what are you doing here? You're Seven years old. Where are your parents? And I think that was one of the first times I had ever felt embarrassment. And it was even worse because the bride came up to me and was like, oh, sweetie, this is for older girls. I'm sorry. And I gave her the bouquet and they did the whole game over again and it was mortifying. And I will never, ever play that game again. And thank God I don't have to because I'm married now. So joke's on you. I got married. Well. Well, anyways, I just remember that I was mortified because I was in a place that was not for me.
00:03:14.610 --> 00:04:05.530
I have been reminded recently that there is a difference between initiative and striving. There's a difference between hard working and chasing. And the difference is this. A heart of humility in your career, in your church, in your teams, wherever you may be serving or working, Proverbs reminds us that it is better for us to be recognized than for us to fight for recognition. It is better for us to be exalted than for us to fight for exaltation. Because there is so much purity in humility. There is so much trust in humility. There's so much security and humility. And let me remind you, humility isn't thinking of yourself less because I don't want you to lose your confidence.
00:04:06.250 --> 00:04:35.930
Because when the time is right and you do have that opportunity to step up and lead more and serve more or to be given more, you need to step into it boldly. Which means our job now is to do our jobs faithfully as we wait for any promotion, as we wait for the king to say, come up here, we have to do our jobs with excellence, with diligence, and the promotion will come. But let God bring it to you.
00:04:36.490 --> 00:05:10.350
And truthfully, if you go chasing after it, you're only going to grow tired. And chasing after a job isn't actually doing your job. So as you're chasing for promotion, you might be missing out on the one thing that's going to get you that promotion, which is completing your job. So don't forget the main thing, which is diligence, which is humility, which is consistency. That's what will bring the promotion. And remember, man doesn't bring exaltation, man doesn't bring promotion. God brings the promotion.
00:05:10.829 --> 00:05:33.319
And God's timing for promotion is gone. Best, let's pray. God, we thank you for this opportunity that we have to serve you and to work. Father, we thank you that you have placed us in the perfect place at the perfect time. We're not going to chase promotion. We're not going to chase recognition. We're not going to chase exaltation. We are going to chase you.
00:05:33.639 --> 00:05:37.319
And you tell us to be diligent. You tell us to be hardworking.
00:05:37.480 --> 00:06:11.399
You tell us to be honest in our work. So that's where we will sit. And we trust you that you will bring the promotion. You'll bring that right job. You'll bring the perfect opportunity for us that checks off desires in our hearts. But we leave it to you Father. And we choose to stay humble. We choose to stay lowly knowing you're the one who exalts us, not man. Our trust is in you, God. And in Jesus. Name we pray. Amen. So there you have it. Your 5 minute daily dose of heaven. Thank you so much for tuning in today.
