You are listening to the My Morning Devotional podcast, episode 1448. Today's Devo is called Set Me on a Rock. Hey there. We're the Alessies, a ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida. And if you're like us, when days get busy and to do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time. That's why we've partnered with our friend Allison to produce a five minute daily dose of heaven. This is the My Morning Devotional Podcast. Hello, everyone. My name is Lauren Alessi, and I am your host for this week. And this week we're just simply reading out of the book Psalms 27. All of it. We're reading all through it. And yesterday we read out of verses three and four. Today we are reading out of verses five through seven. And so today's episode is called Set me on a Rock. And I, I bet you're going to hear the words set me on a rock in the verses.
00:00:58.090 --> 00:01:21.629
I, I bet you that's going to be there. Okay, so let's just read. Let's dive right into it. And it says this Psalm 27:5- 7. I'm reading in the NIV. If you want to follow along, let's begin. For in the day of trouble, he will keep me safe in his dwelling. He will hide me in the shelter of his sacred tent and set me high upon a rock. There it is.
00:01:21.629 --> 00:01:44.670
And set me high upon a rock. Then my head will be exalted above the enemies who surround me at his sacred tent. I will sacrifice with shouts of joy. I will sing and make music to the Lord. Hear my voice when I call, Lord, and be merciful to me and answer me. I just, again, I'm kind of obsessed with the way Psalms lays out.
00:01:44.670 --> 00:04:11.389
And maybe you're in a position like me when, when you stumbled upon this podcast, or I don't know when you stumbled upon. Or maybe you're just at this point in life where you're kind of like, I don't really know what to read in the Bible. I don't really know what to, to pray about right now. And maybe we don't discuss that enough as Christians. Like, we're like, I know exactly what Bible plan I need to be doing. I, I feel like I was there for a long time of like, I know I need to do this Bible plan. I know I need to do this. I know I need to do this. Then I was like, I don't, I don't really know what Bible plan I need to be doing. I don't know what I want to be gleaning right now from the Word. And I think that's just a great time to be like, okay, then I'm just going to focus on reading the Word simply for worship and not gaining. And I don't mean gaining. Like I'm trying to get a word out of it for me, even though that's part of it. But maybe you're like me and you don't really know what to read right now in the Word. Maybe you're like, I've. I've done, you know, the Bible plans on the Old Testament. I've done the Bible plans in the New Testament. I've done the Bible plans on faith. I've done the Bible plans on peace, on hope. And now it's like, I don't really know what to do. And I think it's okay to pause and say, hey, I just want to read the Bible. Not to gain a word from it from me. I just want to read the Bible simply just to worship God and to glorify him and to learn about him and to learn more about his character. And if I just read a verse just because I want to worship him and glorify him, then you know what? That's okay. And if I just want to read psalms just to sort of meditate on the Word, then that's perfectly fine. And I think that's what 5 and 7 lays out for us perfectly. For in the day of trouble, he will keep me safe in his dwelling. He will hide me in the shelter of his sacred tent and set me high upon a rock. And it's just glorifying God. Sometimes we read the Word and, and we're going to gain this, wow, amazing message from it and this amazing revelation from it. And sometimes we're going to read the Word and just be like, thank you, Jesus. Thank you, Jesus, for setting me high upon a rock. Thank you for hiding me in the shelter of your sacred tent. Then my head will be exalted above the enemies who surround me. Thank you, Lord, for exalting me. At his sacred tent I will sacrifice with shouts of joy. I will sing and make music to the Lord. And may our prayer to that just be. You know what, Lord? Even now, God, I'm going to make sacrifice with shouts of joy. Even now, Lord, I will sing and make music to you, God. I will worship you.
00:04:11.389 --> 00:04:25.750
Hear my voice when I call, Lord. Be merciful to me and answer me. And let that be our prayer, Lord. Hear my voice right now, God, as we pray to you. Hear my voice right now, Lord, as I pray to you even in this podcast booth. Be merciful to me Lord, because I'm not perfect.
00:04:25.750 --> 00:04:29.910
Be merciful to me and answer me when I call on your name, Lord.
00:04:29.910 --> 00:05:27.829
I know this is a different sort of podcast message from the rest of the week, but let us just remember that sometimes reading the Word is not about gaining something for us. Sometimes it's just about lifting God up, giving him glory, giving him worship. And I hope that's what we did today. So let's pray. Lord, we thank you so much for your word, God, and how it is a form of worship, Lord, and how it is a form of giving you glory and lifting you up. And let us not always be so tied down to feeling the need to gain a revelation for ourselves, God, in the Bible, Lord, let us never become so so focused on ourselves through the Bible. But Lord, just simply look at the word of God for you God, and how we can worship you through it. Lord, we thank you for today. I pray for everyone listening to the sound of my voice, Lord, today and let them have an amazing day, Lord, and worship you through it. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
