Seek Then Act

Seek Then Act

How do we know when it’s time to pause and seek wisdom before acting on our desires? In today’s episode, hosts Richelle Alessi invite us to explore the importance of seeking God’s guidance before making decisions, as inspired by Proverbs 19:2. Together, we’ll reflect on finding the right balance between waiting for God’s direction and stepping out in faith, discovering how seeking first leads to wiser actions and deeper trust.

Join our community as we pray for discernment and courage, committing our plans to God and supporting each other in this journey of faith and devotion.

You're listening to my Morning Devotional podcast, episode 1360.

00:00:04.080 --> 00:00:07.040
Today's Devo is called Seek and then Act.

00:00:08.000 --> 00:01:07.730
Hey there. We're the Alessi's a ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida. And if you're like us, when days get busy and to do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time. That's why we've partnered with our friend Allison to produce a five minute daily dose of heaven. This is the My Morning Devotional podcast. Good morning everybody and happy Friday. My name is Rochelle Alessi, and I hope that you guys are having an incredible week. And I really hope that this week's Proverbs truly blessed your life and made a change in your life. And so let us know in the comments what has been your favorite proverb. Share with us what you're feeling, what you're thinking, what you felt like has spoken to you the most. We really want to read these and hear your thoughts on it. But there's still, I think, a week and a half left. So we're not done with Proverbs. We still have more. And I'm excited to end this month with Proverbs. But today I'm going to read

00:01:07.730 --> 00:01:18.760
2. And it says, desire without knowledge is not good, and whoever makes haste with his feet misses has his way.

00:01:19.319 --> 00:02:00.530
So when I, I read this, this proverb, it reminded me of something. I, I speak with my husband all the time, and I'm the person who likes to think and process and think of every area of every outcome before I do something. My husband is a little bit different. My husband is like, I see an opportunity, I'm going to go take it. We'll figure out the rest along the way. And we've found out that in our marriage, the balance, both of us being this way, it brings some balance and it actually creates for the perfect, like, outcome, to be honest.

00:02:00.530 --> 00:02:11.539
And it helps because there are moments where we have to slow down and think about something. And I bring that. And there's moments where he has to say, rochelle, this is what we have to do. We don't have to think about it anymore.

00:02:11.539 --> 00:02:52.158
We have to have faith. We have to do it. And what I've realized is that I don't think either way is wrong. We were made this way. But we challenge each other. And what it showed us is that it actually makes us to be more reliant on the Lord and to seek more of what the Lord is asking us or telling us to do. And then sometimes the Lord is going to ask and say, this is what I want. And now that we know what the Lord said, now we act. There are moments where we're going to have to seek him and ask him and pursue his wisdom and pursue what he wants for our lives.

00:02:52.879 --> 00:03:03.039
And it's going to take a little more time to make a decision, because we're waiting, we're trying to learn and figure out what the right thing might be or what maybe is this an opportunity we should take or not.

00:03:03.680 --> 00:03:18.560
This verse, I think, is such a good plan for us to have, no matter what decision we're trying to make. And it says, this desire without knowledge is not good. And whoever makes haste with his feet misses his way.

00:03:19.199 --> 00:04:30.060
It's so good to remind ourselves that we might have a desire, something that we want that has been or we think is exactly what we want, and we just see it and we're desiring it. But maybe we don't have all the knowledge we need. So it's good to have this desire for more. It's good to have this desire for a new home, for a new career, for a new thing. But we still have to explore, and we have to gain a little bit of knowledge to make sure that we steward this desired right. And then it goes to saying, whoever makes haste with his feet misses his way. And I wonder if that means when we're kind of scatterbrained and we're rushing things and we're not seeking the Lord, we might miss our way. We might think we have this desire, that we want this, and we're just gonna go. And you rush to get something, and in the middle of it, you're like, how did I get here? Was this even the way that I wanted? And in those moments, it's almost like, oh, maybe we need to stop and we need to seek the Lord.

00:04:30.779 --> 00:05:43.680
And it made me realize. Sometimes there's this gray area when the Lord speaks and we know what the Lord is saying. We obey, we act. And even as we're waiting for the Lord, there is faith, there's action to be taken even as we wait. But we have to seek the Lord. And I think what this verse helps us and reminds us is that we need to slow down and we need to seek the Lord. Not that we're passive Christians and we just sit and wait for the Lord to do things, and we don't do anything. No, we are going to have faith and we're going to act while we're waiting, but we're going to seek the Lord. We're going to seek his counsel. What is the Holy Spirit saying? What is the godly counsel in our life saying before we act and make this huge decision? How about we bring it to prayer to God? We bring it to the right people to counsel us and say, hey, do you think this would be a wise move for my life instead of me just rushing and doing something without actually thinking. And once that's confirmed guys, that you full force obey the Lord and you act and you go. But let's not forget for some of us drivers who just want to get things down, let's not forget sometimes we need to stop and think and seek the Lord first.

00:05:44.079 --> 00:06:12.779
Not that we're going to be passive, that we're going to be wise and say, I have this desire, but I'm going to bring it to the Lord. I'm going to seek the Lord, I'm going to gain some knowledge. And when the Lord says and he guides me, I'll act. So I encourage you with that proverb today. And with that being said, let's pray to end this devote. But also let's pray to have a great weekend today. So let's pray. Father God, thank you for an incredible week.

00:06:13.100 --> 00:06:42.519
Thank you for your word that makes us better, that it truly refreshes our soul. Thank you for challenging us, but thank you for edifying us and thank you for loving us. I pray that this week has been a blessing to all of our listeners, but I also pray that they have a blessed weekend. I pray that these proverbs will not just be something they hold heard once, but there's something that they go back to and write down and listen and they write them in their hearts so they can live a great life.

00:06:42.839 --> 00:06:54.040
In Jesus name we pray. Amen. So there you have it. Your 5 minute daily dose of heaven. Thank you so much for tuning in today. We pray these devotionals empower you to take on your day.
