00:00:00.273 --> 00:00:15.272
You're listening to the My Morning Devotional Podcast, episode 1493. Today's devo is called Release Control. Hey there, we're the Alessis, a ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida.

00:00:15.272 --> 00:00:27.108
And if you're like us, when days get busy and to-do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time. That's why we've partnered with our friend Allison to produce a 5-minute daily dose of of Heaven.

00:00:27.108 --> 00:00:45.694
This is the My Morning Devotional podcast. Well, welcome back everybody! Happy Wednesday! I hope you're having a great week. I know I am, and it's a beautiful day as we look and dive into God's word and we talk about some inconsistencies in our lives and in our hearts.

00:00:45.694 --> 00:01:50.042
Again, I hope you've been enjoying it, and I hope it has been convicting everybody, not condemning. We don't want it to condemn, we want it to convict. And what we wanna do with this series is point out the little foxes, or maybe the weeds in the garden, that over time can destroy the seeds and the harvest that we have in our lives as believers. So one of the things that I have to confess right now, I almost called this episode Control Freaks, but I didn't think it would look good on Spotify as a title. But I'm speaking to all the control freaks. If that is you, Don't turn off this devo because sometimes us control freaks, we don't want to hear the truth. Why? Because we want to control the truth. I am speaking to myself. So if this is for you, if you have either been called a control freak before or people are afraid to call you a control freak, this episode is for you. Because as believers and as followers of Christ, we are not meant to be in control. Of everything in our lives. It's just not how it works.

00:01:50.042 --> 00:02:46.546
God is the all-knowing, all-powerful. God is in control. And as a believer, what we've done is we've agreed to submit our lives and to surrender our lives to God and follow his ways, follow his, his laws, you know, and, and what his word says. That is what we've agreed to. We've submitted our way of thinking And so as people that tend to be more on the controlling side of the spectrum, we have to remind ourselves that we're not the ones in control. Becasue Proverbs 3:5-6 says this Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all of your ways acknowledge him and he will make your path straight. So again, if you're a control freak in the room, you might struggle with leaning on your own understanding. I know I do. I am the, the person that likes to know everything and have all the information.

00:02:46.546 --> 00:03:04.908
Uh, for example, ever since I was little, I was very observant when I would be driving in the car and all of my family, I hope they don't listen to this episode because they're gonna throw it in my face after this. But when I was younger, I would look at like the roads and the streets and how we would get to church and how we'd get to the restaurants.

00:03:04.908 --> 00:03:17.438
Like I wanted to learn the road. I wanted to learn Miami. I wanted to figure out how to get around. So I would see all of the landmarks and kind of be like, okay, that's there, that's there, whatever. To the point when I started driving at 15, 16, I knew how to get around.

00:03:17.438 --> 00:03:25.043
So I am the very, what is it called? Directionally, I'm not challenged. Directionally victorious.

00:03:25.043 --> 00:03:57.889
I can get myself around Miami. I really enjoy it. I'll go to a city by the end of the week that I'm there. I know how to, how to walk around the city and drive around the city. That's just something that I pride myself in. Well, it's terrible when someone else is driving. For example, when my sister Lauren drives me around, she is the most directionally challenged person I've ever met. Lauren does not know where she is and she'll be a mile from her house. Okay, so this is very difficult because I'll be in the passenger seat and I am literally the worst backseat driver that you've ever met because I'm like, Lauren, you have no idea what you're doing.

00:03:57.889 --> 00:04:10.175
I think my understanding is greater than everybody else's in the room. And I know that that's something that does keep me from submitting to the Lord. It does keep me from seeking his understanding.

00:04:10.175 --> 00:04:18.060
And what I've had to do is really submit to God, like, Lord, I think this, but I could be wrong here.

00:04:18.060 --> 00:04:22.699
God, this is what I understand about this situation, but I could be wrong.

00:04:22.699 --> 00:04:30.617
And this is the opposite of what society is telling us. Society says, I have my own truth, there's my truth, your truth, and this and this and that.

00:04:30.617 --> 00:04:48.725
Society is telling you, you know, you know what's best, follow your gut, follow your intuition, when that's just going to lead us down a path that's dark. You see, I love in this verse because it says he's going to make your path straight. If you go off of your own understanding, it will make your path the opposite of straight.

00:04:48.725 --> 00:05:31.848
Your path is going to be pure chaos. Our path, if we don't— if we lean on our understanding and we don't submit to God, our path is going to go all over the place. We're going to have no direction, no vision. We'll have no stability because we're leading on our own understanding. I thought about this as I was making this video or these notes, how there's like that famous saying, you learn something new every day. Well, if we learn something new every day, that means there's a lot that we don't know. If I'm learning new things daily, that means every single day I don't know a lot. If I don't know everything, I can't go off of my own understanding.

00:05:31.848 --> 00:05:42.600
So if there are things in our lives, if there's something in your life that you feel like, no, I know, I know how to do this, it's okay to say, God, I don't know about this thing.

00:05:42.600 --> 00:05:46.692
Lord, I don't know how I'm going to surpass this and get over this.

00:05:46.692 --> 00:06:03.870
If you're in a season where you just got a really difficult diagnosis that you never thought would be something a doctor would tell you. It's okay to say, Lord, I don't, I don't know how to move forward. Father, I don't, I don't understand how to do this. I didn't— I don't understand how this happened to me. That's fine.

00:06:03.870 --> 00:06:09.007
Just trust in him. Submit your understanding to the Lord's.

00:06:09.007 --> 00:06:35.790
It's okay to say I don't know something. It's okay to say I don't know how to do something. It's okay for us to release control. Because I don't want to get to the end of my life and that's the point where I go, God, finally, you know what, God, I can't do it anymore. I got to give it over to you. And I look back on my life and my path was just dizzy because I never gave it to him and I never surrendered it to him.

00:06:35.790 --> 00:06:58.848
And so I pray that all of us as believers, whether we are control freaks or not, we submit, we submit our our understanding, we submit our control, what we think we know, what we might know, what we've experienced. You know, man, we've— I've been through so much, I can get— even that, even that. If you've been through a lot, there's stuff that we haven't been through, but God sees it. And let's submit to him today.

00:06:58.848 --> 00:07:10.230
Amen. Come on, let's pray. Father, we thank you that we can trust in you. We thank you that you are a trustworthy God that we can lean on. Father, you are the same yesterday, today and forever.

00:07:10.230 --> 00:07:17.235
So the things in front of us, the things that we're dealing with today, God, you can handle. Lord, you saw them before we did.

00:07:17.235 --> 00:07:35.281
And so we submit our understanding, we submit our control, we release it to you, Father. We let go of our plans, of our expectations, even the dreams that we have, Father. We let them go. We submit it to you, and we trust in you, and we lean on you. In Jesus' name I pray, amen. And amen.

00:07:35.281 --> 00:07:57.168
So there you have it, your 5-minute daily dose of heaven. Thank you so much for tuning in today. We pray these devotionals empower you to take on your day.
