You're listening to the My Morning Devotional Podcast, episode 1490. Today's devo is called Redirecting Your Mind. Hey there, we're the Alessis, a ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida. And if you're like us, when days get busy and to-do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time. That's why we've partnered with our friend Allison to produce a 5-minute daily dose of heaven. This is the My Morning Devotional Podcast. Hello everyone, my name is Lauren Alessi and I have been your host for this week. I hope it has blessed you. As we were doing the intro, I just had like the weirdest little like brain fart where I was like, today's devotional is called— and I'm sorry if I'm on like the verge of laughter because that was just the funniest thing to me. Okay, and I'm not gonna get in my head, I'm gonna admit it so I can be like, I said it. And we can laugh and we can move on.
00:00:57.219 --> 00:01:19.459
See, guys, the Lord's working through me. Okay, anyways, moving on. Um, today we're talking about redirecting your mind. Again, I really hope this week has blessed you. I hope you could send it to someone you know. I also hope if you're someone who's not in your head a lot, it helps you understand people who are maybe in their head a lot.
00:01:19.459 --> 00:01:49.609
Um, because I think that's like equally important. Me and my fiancé, we're both super heady people. We're both in our head, and it always helps when we're both understanding each other and not just, why are you always in your head? It helps that we understand each other's processes. So I hope it can also offer some of that insight because I'm just a genius and I just want to help everybody. No, I'm totally kidding.
00:01:49.609 --> 00:02:03.700
Okay, so today's episode is called Redirecting Your Mind. We're gonna jump into the word, and today's scripture is found out of Colossians 3:2, and it says this set your mind on things above and not on earthly things.
00:02:03.700 --> 00:03:22.030
First of all, I just wanna— I, I wanna say this, um, which is kind of off topic, but this is such a deep well of knowledge when we talk about getting in your head, submitting to Christ. And if this speaks to you, and it really spoke to you, please don't let the My Morning Devo be your only source and your only well of scripture and devotional of the day. Please, I ask that you go home and you read more scripture on your own, because this podcast, I love it. I really love it, and I know our audience loves it. We love our audience. But the goal is for you to dive deeper in your word on your own, um, and that's truly setting your mind on things above. We can't help you do that alone. That has to come from one-on-one time with God, because a verse a day can't help you do that. So I just want to say that first, and I say that with love because I've seen that in my life, that getting alone time with God, reading the Bible more and more will help you really get out of your head and really just give you more and more knowledge and wisdom for everyday life. So that's one thing that I just want to add.
00:03:22.030 --> 00:04:19.060
I felt that on my heart to add for a little bit. But setting your mind above and not on earthly things is really important when we're talking about heady people because one, we can think a lot, but it's important not to say so much in our head that we're only thinking about the future. And God's not asking us to do that here, because I have done that a lot. I think only in the future, and then I'm like, wait a second, it's 2026. This is not 2035. I'm scared about the future, and I'm living in 2026. I need to sort of ground myself in this time. But God's not asking us to do that. He's not asking us to think ahead. He's asking us to think above, which means when there's a situation that we can easily overthink and overanalyze, it's not to go, oh my God, how is this going to work out? Oh my God, how is this going to be okay?
00:04:19.060 --> 00:04:31.930
Will things ever get better? How is God going to use this? God's asking us to just submit it to God and say, you know what? I don't have to understand it. I don't need an answer.
00:04:31.930 --> 00:05:24.660
I'm just setting my mind on God. I'm setting my mind on heaven, and I'm not thinking about earthly things. There's a great verse in Hebrews that talks about, like, heaven's timing aligning with earth's timing, and when they do, beautiful things happen. That's when, like, God's plan lines up. I think it's in Hebrews. It's a beautiful verse. I don't know where it is exactly, but I think that's what Colossians is alluding to here. That when we set our minds on things above and not on earthly things, we're admitting that there are things that's just out of our timeline and out of our understanding. So we simply go, I don't understand it anyways, and it's out of my control, so I'm not going to overthink it. So I'm redirecting my mind on things above. Again, not things ahead, not things that I can't control. No, I'm setting my mind on things above, and I can't understand it, so God, I give it to you. It's yours. Take it.
00:05:24.660 --> 00:05:32.660
You're going to do much better things with it anyways than I could ever do in my hands. And I think of an example.
00:05:32.660 --> 00:06:12.670
We had a really close friend that right now she's facing just like a really tragic situation. She comes to our church. She's also in like a family member, a family member of mine, and she's just facing something like totally unimaginable. And it's really hit us hard as, as friends and as a church community, and it's hit us. And the only way we can cope is to set our mind on things above and not on earthly things. The only way we can move forward is not to find blame, is not to overthink and to find an answer, because we're never going to find an answer.
00:06:12.670 --> 00:06:21.439
Um, we're never going to find someone to blame. The only way to cope is to turn to the Lord and say, we don't understand this, we never will.
00:06:21.439 --> 00:06:36.959
But God, you understand, heaven understands, and we trust you for that, Lord. And we don't ever need an answer, God. We may never get one. But Lord, we know that when we get to heaven, God, there awaits our answer, because we're not here forever.
00:06:36.959 --> 00:06:40.720
That is setting our mind on things above and not on earthly things.
00:06:40.720 --> 00:07:02.279
And let us just be reminded, guys, We're not on this earth forever. We don't need the answers because we're not here forever. This is not our permanent home, which is like super deep for a 5 Minute Diva, which is why you need to get in your word every day. But it's true. That is what redirecting your mind and setting your minds on things above look like.
00:07:02.279 --> 00:07:17.009
And maybe this went super deep for people, but I promise for the audience who's like, Lauren, I relate to you. I get in my head. I'm a heady person. You're right there with me, and, and you can relate to everything I just said. So let's pray.
00:07:17.009 --> 00:07:24.170
Dear Lord, we thank you for this week. And you know what, God, we give you thanks that this is not our permanent home.
00:07:24.170 --> 00:08:23.019
God, we thank you right now, Lord, that you have a home awaiting us in heaven. God, which is why things can be tough day to day, God, because we don't have the answers. But Lord, help us to set our mind on things above. Help to set our mind on you, on heaven, God, because there awaits our answers. But Lord, help us to not overthink and overanalyze in the everyday, but help us to set our minds on you and redirect our minds on heaven, on you, Lord, on things above, and not on earthly things, just wasting our time. In Jesus' name we pray, amen. So there you have it, your 5-minute daily dose of heaven. Thank you so much for tuning in today. We pray these devotionals empower you to take on your day.
