Put The Work In

Put The Work In

What does it look like to truly nurture the gifts and responsibilities God has given us? In today’s episode, host Gaby Alessi invites us to dig deep into the theme of putting in the work, inspired by Proverbs 12:11. Together, we’ll explore what it means to take ownership of our “land”—whether that’s our family, career, ministry, or studies—and how faithfully tending to what God’s placed in our hands leads to abundance and growth. We’ll reflect on the practical wisdom of not chasing after empty fantasies, but instead focusing on cultivating and investing in what matters most.

Join our community in prayer and devotion as we ask God for strength, endurance, and a renewed commitment to put the work in—trusting that with His guidance, our efforts will yield a fruitful harvest.

00:00:00.160 --> 00:00:14.320
You're listening to the My Morning Devotional podcast, episode 1355. Today's Devo is called Put the Work In. Hey there. We're the Alessies, a ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida.

00:00:14.480 --> 00:00:29.320
And if you're like us, when days get busy and to do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time. That's why we've partnered with our friend Allison to produce a five minute daily dose of heaven. This is the My Morning Devotional podcast.

00:00:29.559 --> 00:00:40.600
Well, welcome back, everybody. Happy Friday. This is your host, Gabby. As I close out my week of the Book of Proverbs, where we've been reading through Proverbs 8 all the way.

00:00:40.600 --> 00:00:53.859
Today we're finishing with Proverbs 12, and I hope you've been enjoying it. My prayer is that you would go into the chapter from the verse that we read of the day and you would read it fully because there's so much insight and there's so much wisdom.

00:00:54.340 --> 00:00:58.020
See what I did there in every single chapter? All right, we're reading from

00:00:58.020 --> 00:01:08.019
11, and it says this. Those who work their land will have abundant food, but those who chase fantasies have no sense.

00:01:08.900 --> 00:01:16.260
Can I just tell you, I love this verse so much. I actually think back when we took over this podcast, my sisters and I.

00:01:16.500 --> 00:02:15.960
I think one of my first episodes was about this verse, because I just love this verse. I am all about putting the work in. And I think this is what this verse speaks to, because it's saying this. Those who work their land will have abundant food, but those who chase fantasies have no sense. Basically, what I'm getting from this verse is everybody has land, everybody has something, has dominion, has territory that God has given you. That territory could be family, that territory could be a marriage, it could be a job, it could be a business that you just started your schooling, your children, your place in ministry, the team that you have in ministry, God has given you land to work with. So the first thing we have to do is take ownership of that land, know that the land is yours, be confident that that land is yours, that was given to you by the Lord. But the second thing we have to do is we have to work it.

00:02:16.919 --> 00:02:35.159
The land is not going to work itself. If you look at a big piece of land, we have a farm in Georgia, and there's this big, big area that my brother created. This garden, he planted this garden. And over in that garden, we notice every time we leave for a couple months and we go back, it is just overrun with weeds.

00:02:35.800 --> 00:03:34.280
Well, what's the point? The garden is not going to clean itself. The garden's not going to work itself. We have to go out there. Or I'll say this. My brother has to go out there and he has to clean it up. He has to work that land. He has to go and pull up the weeds. He has to go and. And maybe move some things over, maybe replant something, maybe take something out and put something back new in, maybe plant some more seed. That is something that has to be worked on and taken care of. Well, the same is said about our land, the territory that God has given us. The land is not going to plant seeds for itself. It's not going to water itself, and it's not going to grow itself. We have to go and do that. So how does that work for us? Well, if it is. If the land is your children, then you got to work on your kids. We got to spend time with them. We got to make sure that they have the best structure and the best environment in the home as possible. Maybe it's taking your kids to church. Maybe you don't take them to youth group or you don't take them to church on Sundays.

00:03:34.599 --> 00:04:15.729
Well, that's a way that we work the land. Maybe your land is school and you really do not see value in it, but God has given you that ability and that opportunity to go to school. Not everybody has that chance to do that, but God has given you that opportunity. We have to work that land. And maybe it is a job, a job that you don't have the passion for. But you know what? God's put you there for a season. Work that land. Know that it's yours. Take ownership of it and put it to work. Put the work in and grow whatever God has given you. Just like the parable of the talents, God's given you two talents. Double it and make it four.

00:04:16.050 --> 00:04:41.860
Put the work in and we're gonna see the value and the growth of that land after the work we put into it. Lord, we thank you for today. We thank you for this week. Father, we thank you that we have been reading through the book of Proverbs and receiving wisdom from you and from your word. And today, Lord, I pray that you give us all the strength and the endurance to put the work in. Lord, you've given us the tools. You've shown us how to do it.

00:04:41.860 --> 00:04:48.870
Lord, you've shown us that when we don't put the work in, it's just fantasy. God, we're chasing fantasies that lead us nowhere.

00:04:48.870 --> 00:05:10.670
But when we put the work in, Lord, there's going to be a return on that and so we thank you for it, God. I pray for all of us this weekend that we have a great weekend ahead. That Lord, we would continue to be in Proverbs 13 and 14 as we kick off next week with Proverbs 15. So we thank you for it Lord. We bless you in Jesus name. Amen. So there you have it.
