Prayer: Why

What has been your experience with prayer, and do you find it mysterious or challenging? In today’s episode, we’re diving deep into the heart of prayer—why we pray, especially when it feels like our prayers aren’t being answered. Host Stephanie Muiña shares her personal journey, drawing a beautiful parallel between the ‘why’ questions of her three-year-old daughter and our own questions for God. Through relatable stories, heartfelt encouragement, and scripture from 1 Thessalonians, Stephanie reminds us that our daily conversations with God—no matter how small—lay the foundation for deeper trust and faith, even in seasons of waiting.
Whether you’re a seasoned prayer warrior or just starting to explore what prayer means, this episode will uplift and motivate you to keep building your relationship with God, one prayer at a time.

00:00:00.080 --> 00:00:06.480
You're listening to the My Morning Devotional podcast, episode 1285. Today's Devo is called prayer.
00:00:06.719 --> 00:00:14.240
Why? Hey there. We're the Alessies, a ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida.
00:00:14.320 --> 00:00:29.280
And if you're like us, when days get busy and to do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time. That's why we've partnered with our friend Allison to produce a five minute daily dose of heaven. This is the My Morning Devotional podcast.
00:00:29.519 --> 00:00:36.640
Good morning, everyone. Stephanie here. I just want to thank you guys so much for following along this week in the topic of prayer.
00:00:36.960 --> 00:00:43.759
I know that for some of you, this is a very mysterious world. Well, it doesn't have to be.
00:00:44.240 --> 00:01:11.370
All of us can practice prayer. We can make it a part of our daily lives. And that is my desire to see all of you feel like you know exactly what it is you can say in your prayer, who you're speaking to, when to pray, and today, I want you to know why. You even pray first. Thessalonians 5, 16, 17 says, Rejoice always and pray without ceasing.
00:01:12.329 --> 00:01:45.750
Prayer and a prayer life is fantastic until you start to reach that season where God isn't answering your prayers. You know, it's very common in the walk with God to sometimes feel like God is just not answering what you are praying to him. It's very common to feel like you have not heard the voice of God in a little while. And that sometimes can drive you to question, well, why am I even praying? Let me first reassure you, that is a very common thought to have.
00:01:46.709 --> 00:02:08.229
And let me second explain to you a story about my daughter Gianna, who is three years old. And do you see these wrinkles here? When I smile, you see the wrinkles. I didn't have those three years ago. My daughter Gianna has given me these wrinkles. She's amazing. Don't get me wrong. I love her to death, but she has entered the why stage. Everything is why.
00:02:08.789 --> 00:02:11.919
Why are we going to the movies? Why are we. Why are we eating chicken?
00:02:12.080 --> 00:02:19.360
Why are you driving? Why are we going to the park? Everything. Why is the sky blue? And the small things. You know what?
00:02:19.360 --> 00:03:04.259
I got time, Gia. Let's talk about it. The sky is blue because that's how God designed it. We are going to the movies because we like to go watch movies. We're eating chicken because it's good for you. So I'll answer all of those small questions. Well, every once in a while, she will ask me a big question, like, mommy, where's your grandfather? Well, my grandfather passed away five years ago. So how the heck do I answer that question to a 3 year old? So those questions I have to look at Gianna and I have to tell her, gianna, when you are older, I will tell you why. And again she'll go, why? And I'll say, because, Gia, you won't understand it and you'll keep asking more questions.
00:03:04.900 --> 00:03:08.659
So I'm gonna wait because I love you and I wanna protect your heart.
00:03:08.900 --> 00:03:28.900
I'm gonna wait until you're a little bit older because then you'll be able to understand that one big question. And here's the beautiful thing about this whole scenario. Every single day I have to continue in those small conversations with my daughter.
00:03:29.550 --> 00:03:39.949
Because in those small conversations, explaining to her why the sky is blue, why are we eating chicken? It's building a relationship between me and Gia that she can trust me.
00:03:40.430 --> 00:04:48.509
That if she asks me a small question, I'll answer her and I'll give her the best explanation that I can give. It's building this rapport between my daughter and I so that when she gets older and more mature and I notice that she's able to understand bigger concepts, then I can answer her question. You know, every small conversation between her and I is necessary for her maturity. And your small prayer with God today will help you with your big prayers tomorrow. Because it's growing your relationship with God for the days you really need prayer. It's growing your faith, it's growing your trust in God in small increments every single day. And the beautiful thing is God answering the small prayers will assure you that God will answer the big prayers. Because God provided for the small things. I trust him to provide me for the big things. Because he helped me with my groceries last week.
00:04:49.089 --> 00:05:11.970
I know he's going to help me with my healing this week. Because every single day I'm meeting with God and I have a friendship with him. I'm a daughter of God. And you know why? Because I hear it from him in my prayer time with him every single day. So if he's not answering your prayers, it could simply mean he just wants you to grow some things first.
00:05:12.689 --> 00:05:27.379
He maybe just wants you to grow your faith in him, your understanding of him, your understanding of the season. He wants to grow your maturity. He wants to grow your vulnerability. He wants to grow your friendship group. He wants you to grow in your humility.
00:05:28.259 --> 00:05:42.709
If God is not answering your prayers right now, it simply means he's working on you. And in the right time, when he sees that you're ready. When he sees that the season is ready, he will make everything clear to you.
00:05:43.589 --> 00:06:20.339
You know, he also wants to see if you'll keep coming back to him when you're not seeing answered prayers. Because that's when you have a true friendship with God, that you're going to show up and pray even when you're a little confused by what he's doing. Another thing to keep in mind, listeners, is that your prayer time can also be used to pray for other people. And I would challenge you every single day. When you do pray, just pray for one person in your life that needs God, that needs Jesus. Remember to make your prayers not only about yourself and your life, but make it about others.
00:06:20.980 --> 00:06:43.970
I hope that this encouraged you this week. I hope that it blessed you. And again, I hope that it deepened your prayer life in God. Let's pray. God, we thank you so much that you have left the door wide open for this relationship with you. I pray that every single person under the sound of my voice will feel this unction to deepen their prayer life with you and that God, you will create a roadmap for them.
00:06:44.370 --> 00:06:51.170
You will make it clear to them what to pray for, how to pray and when to pray. And God you will give them their why.
00:06:51.970 --> 00:07:09.870
And maybe it maybe that why is simply because they love you. And God, I pray that you will grow their love for you and their friendship with you every single day so that that is what drives them to go and pray with you. We thank you Jesus and we glorify you. And in Jesus name we pray.
00:07:10.110 --> 00:07:21.310
Amen. So there you have it. Your 5 minute daily dose of heaven. Thank you so much for tuning in today. We pray these devotionals empower you to take on your day.
