Pray With Persistence

Pray With Persistence

Have you ever felt tempted to give up on a prayer when the answers don’t come right away? In today's episode of My Morning Devotional, guest host Lauren Alessi invites us into a real and relatable journey of praying with persistence. Drawing from Luke 18 and the parable of the persistent widow, we'll explore why Jesus encouraged us to pray continuously without losing heart, what it truly means to trust God's timing, and how persistent prayer not only brings us closer to God but also shapes us along the way.

Let’s gather as a community, reflect together, and join in prayer, asking God for the strength to persist, trust, and continue seeking Him—no matter how long the wait may feel.

You are listening to the My Morning Devotional podcast, episode 1268. Today's episode is called Pray with Persistence. Hey there. We're the Alessies, a ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida. And if you're like us, when days get busy and to do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time.

00:00:21.600 --> 00:00:46.380
That's why we've partnered with our friend Allison to produce a five minute daily dose of heaven. This is the My Morning Devotional podcast. Hello, everyone, Happy Wednesday, and my name is Lauren Alessi. I am your host for this week and we are talking about prayer. As you could tell, I am losing my voice just a little bit. Maybe you couldn't tell at all and I just pointed out anyways, but it's okay. It's all good. We're going to keep going.

00:00:46.380 --> 00:01:28.079
We're going to persist because today's episode is called Praying or Pray with Persistence. I'm also going to be completely honest with you. I am recording this from my home and this is the realest it gets because I have a lot of family over my house. So if you hear my grandma, if you hear my aunt, if you hear my parents, you know, we're just one big happy family living under one roof, having a good time this week. So that's the realist this podcast is going to get, but we should be good. But just a warning for the this week, if you hear any of that, we're just having a good time. Okay? Anyways, we are talking about praying with persistence today and we're going to

00:01:28.079 --> 00:01:42.640
1, and I'm just going to let you know, it's not the most. You're not going to hear this verse and be like, this just answered all my prayers. This is exactly what I needed. But it is a verse I want to dive into a little bit deeper. And it says this.

00:01:42.879 --> 00:02:27.629
Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up. And then Jesus goes into telling the parable of the persistent widow. And again, like always, I encourage you. Go back, go read this chapter for yourself, Luke 18, and read the story of the persistent widow. If you find yourself in a season where you really need to learn about persistence in prayer and not giving up, read that story, read that, read that parable that Jesus told his disciples. What I love about this particular verse is that Jesus knows the disciples and he knows in turn how we are. We are very easy to give in, easy to give up.

00:02:27.870 --> 00:03:45.120
And just like the disciples he knew one day they would want to give up. So he knew he had to tell them a story. He knew he had to tell them a parable representing how they should always pray and not give up in their prayer lives and in. In honestly, in their everyday lives. Why? Because God honors persistent prayer. Most of the times we want the answer to come immediately. We want to pray for, like, I just want my spouse to come, like, tomorrow, right? Or I just want to be pregnant, like, tomorrow. And then we just want that to happen, whether that's our exact prayer or whether that's in our head. And most of the time the answer doesn't come immediately. But that's not because God's not involved. That's not because God's like, hey, I'll get to you. I'm just going to take care of this table over here. No, that's not because God's not like taking care of you or God isn't listening. That's because God's got something deeper he's working on in you. That's because God has got something different in mind for you, but it's still going to match everything you have in mind for yourself. Why? Because you're still in a relationship with him. So we were talking about praying relational prayers with him. God takes all of that into consideration. God knows all of that. God knows all your dreams and desires.

00:03:45.599 --> 00:04:22.720
So it's not that he's not taking those things into consideration. He's just doing a deeper work in you. So persistent prayers with relational prayers. And when we pray him, prayers that honors him and that glorifies him, making our requests made known to him. Prayer is molding us, and also it's moving heaven. When we persist with our prayer, we don't realize that prayer is molding us, but also it's moving heaven. There's a verse in the Bible, I think it's in Hebrews, that it talks about earthly timing and heavenly timing meeting up at the same time. And that's when.

00:04:23.120 --> 00:04:33.990
That's when God's will is done on earth. It's one of my favorite verses, and I have to find it exactly in the Bible. But that is when you feel God move, when heavenly timing matches with earthly timing.

00:04:33.990 --> 00:05:40.220
Do you know how that happens when we pray with persistence, when our hearts get aligned because of personal relational prayer with persistence, our hearts begin to change. Heaven begins to move, and God's will aligns. So some reflection. Is there something you've been praying for that you're tempted to give up on? What is that? Think about that reflect on that. And two what does it mean to you to trust God's timing? If God's timing looks this is a tough question to ask, but if God's timing feels like it's far, if God's timing feels like it's soon, whatever that looks like, what does it mean to you to trust God's timing? And no matter what God's timing looks like, can you still pray with persistence? Can you still honor God through persistent prayer? So let's pray. God, I confess that sometimes I myself can grow weary in prayer. I confess that even myself, Lord, that I I don't feel like praying with persistence, God. Because you know all my dreams and desires. So why do I even have to pray it? But Lord, I come to you and I ask for forgiveness, Lord. I ask for forgiveness, Lord.

00:05:40.220 --> 00:06:06.540
Because I still want that relational prayer with you, God. I want that one on one prayer with you, Lord. But God, I just pray that you strengthen me. You help me pray with persistence, God, you help me strengthen my trust. And even when I don't see results right away, Lord, I believe you are at work and I choose to keep seeking you, Lord. And I just pray this prayer, God, I pray that everyone listening to it comes into agreement with it, Lord.

00:06:06.540 --> 00:06:28.319
So let's say this Lord, strengthen our faith. Help us to pray with persistence and trust. And even when we don't see results right away, we believe you are at work and we choose to keep seeking you. In Jesus name we pray. Amen. So there you have it. Your 5 minute daily dose of heaven. Thank you so much for tuning in today.
