You're listening to the My Morning Devotional podcast, episode 1455. Today's Devo is called Perseverance.
00:00:06.400 --> 00:01:03.189
Hey there. We're the Alessi's, a ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida. And if you're like us, when days get busy and to do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time. That's why we've partnered with our friend Allison to produce a five minute daily dose of heaven. This is the My Morning Devotional Podcast. Well, welcome back to the final episode of this week. It's Friday and so it's a good day. Whether you're at work or you work from home on Fridays. I pray that you are having a great day and I really hope you've enjoyed the last week's episode. I pray that this has blessed you and challenged you in the best way. As we've been talking about things to add to our faith and just to recap a little bit, in Second Peter, chapter one, verse three, it says this. His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.
00:01:03.189 --> 00:01:25.780
Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption of the world caused by evil desires. Thank you, Jesus, that you've helped us escape for this very reason. This has been the point of our whole week. Make every effort to add to your faith, goodness and to goodness, knowledge. And to knowledge. Self control.
00:01:25.780 --> 00:02:07.230
And to self control. Perseverance. And to perseverance. Godliness. And to godliness. Mutual affection. And to mutual affection, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. Today we want to wrap it up with the topic of perseverance. And I also want to read this verse in Romans, chapter 5, verse 3 that says not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings because we know that suffering produces perseverance, perseverance produces character and character hope. I want to focus on that point of Suffering produces perseverance.
00:02:07.230 --> 00:02:23.069
I want to remind you that you can persevere today. You have been given the opportunity today to push harder, to tackle that obstacle, to pray more, to ask God to intervene more, and to fight a little bit harder.
00:02:23.069 --> 00:02:33.870
God's given you today because in our sufferings, through suffering comes perseverance. And so we're going to have things that we suffer from.
00:02:33.870 --> 00:02:44.800
It's something that's going to happen every day, because this is a fallen world that we're living in. But. But God gives us the opportunity to persevere from those sufferings. You see in.
00:02:44.800 --> 00:03:13.680
In the verse of. Of 2 Peter that we're reading the book of 2 Peter, I looked up a little bit of the background, and basically at this time, the society or society around the people and Christians, that society was the Roman civilization, the Roman Empire, all of those things, and they worshiped a lot of false gods. And so the Christian people, the new believers, they had a lot of societal pressure in order to serve their gods.
00:03:13.680 --> 00:04:10.020
They felt like when they would leave their homes or they would go to the different markets and they would go to work, there was just this constant societal pressure to serve a God that is not theirs. And we all know how God feels about false gods. So it was just this very difficult situation. And frankly, it was a way that they suffered because they wanted to please God so badly and they wanted to follow him. Yet society and the friends around them and the unbelievers that they were surrounded by kept pushing this opposite way of living. And. And the opposite way of living is something that God hated. So you could see the pressure. And I don't know about y', all, but I'm reading this and I'm like, man, we have our own version of this. We have constant societal pressures. When we go to work, we. When maybe you're with the family for the holidays, extended family for the holidays, when we're watching tv, when we go to the movies, you know, when. When you're just seeing the constant headlines.
00:04:10.020 --> 00:04:39.910
There is pressure every day that we are met with societal pressure that causes us as believers to shrink back and go, man, what are we doing? God, are you. Are you really here? God, are you really working? It's the same feeling that these people were feeling at the time when Peter was telling them, hey, add perseverance to your faith. Remind yourself in these moments to push through. Add this. Don't forget to persevere. Here's why I think this is important.
00:04:39.910 --> 00:05:39.649
Jesus himself persevered in the night when he sat in the garden of Gethsemane and he prayed that prayer. And he said, God, I'm. I don't think I can do this. If it's your will, take this cup from me. And he was so overwhelmed by the weight of the sins of the world and the weight of the job and the purpose that God had for him that he sat down and he actually sweat drops of blood. That's how intense it was. That that was the pressure that Jesus was under. But Jesus sat back and said, but not my will, Thy will be done, Lord. He persevered, he pushed through. Even with all the obstacles, even when he was arrested and, and he was beaten and he was flogged, he still pushed through. And if we're looking at the verse of Romans, perseverance develops your character and your character develops hope. There's hope in the end. If we're in the moment of suffering and we have to persevere through our sufferings, just know that hope is at the end.
00:05:39.649 --> 00:05:43.889
Keep pushing towards hope. Persevere.
00:05:43.889 --> 00:05:59.180
Do the hard thing. See it as a great challenge to push through whatever challenge and struggle that you are doing. Take it on as something that the Lord has called you to do. Because faith cannot stop at salvation, which is where I want to end this episode.
00:05:59.180 --> 00:06:03.899
Our faith cannot just stop at receiving Jesus into our heart.
00:06:03.899 --> 00:06:29.269
It has to grow, it has to become more. Because at the end of this verse it says this. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, which means you keep doing them, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. Let's be effective and productive believers and encourage everybody around us to do the same as we pursue the Lord Jesus Christ.
00:06:29.269 --> 00:06:33.269
Amen. Come on, let's pray. Father, I thank you for today.
00:06:33.269 --> 00:07:39.250
