00:00:00.320 --> 00:00:20.719
You're listening to the My Morning Devotional Podcast, episode 1481. Today's devo was called, "Overthinking." Hey there! We're the Alessis, a ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida. And if you're like us, when days get busy and to-do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time.
00:00:20.719 --> 00:01:17.030
That's why we've partnered with our friend Allison to produce a 5-minute daily dose of heaven. This is the My Morning Devotional Podcast. Good morning everybody, and thank you so much for tuning in today to our My Morning Devotional Podcast. I am loving this theme that we have for this month, which is called Internal Inconsistencies, where we are getting honest about the things that we have to process and our hurdles that we have to get over. And today I'm going to be diving into overthinking. Now, my sister Lauren is gonna be really expanding on this topic, I think next week, so I don't wanna steal her thunder. I'm only gonna talk about it once and I'm gonna share it from the perspective of a young mom, which is who I am. I have two kids, Gianna and Matthew, and they are the greatest things in my life, but they do come with a lot of hurdles.
00:01:17.030 --> 00:01:50.849
So I wanna be talking about overthinking when it comes to motherhood. And to this season of motherhood. So let's dive into it. I'm reading from Proverbs 31:25 in the NIV version, which says, "She is clothed with strength and dignity. She can laugh at the days to come." And I think we're okay to also say he is clothed with strength and dignity, and he can laugh at the days to come. Because at that point in scripture, they're talking about a woman and God's standard of a woman.
00:01:50.849 --> 00:01:58.609
But there's a lot that even men can learn from that as well, to not worry about the future, but to laugh at the days that are ahead of us.
00:01:58.609 --> 00:02:06.450
So I, in this season of motherhood, have been exposed to overthinking.
00:02:06.450 --> 00:02:41.590
I do it all the time. I overthink about my outfits. I overthink about my, my physical look. I overthink about my kids' health. I overthink about our schedules, everything. My time management to who I am as a mom, what kind of mom I am. I can really waste my time on worrying and overthinking, and I'll even do it for my kids as well. Are they in school soon enough? Am I feeding them the best foods? Are my kids in good health? And maybe it's FOMO that caused it.
00:02:41.590 --> 00:03:06.849
Maybe it's comparison. Maybe it's just the mom fear, but here is what I choose to believe every time, I, I overthink I am exactly where God wants me to be. And if you are somebody who overtthinks, let me encourage you today you are exactly where God wants you to be. My kids are exactly where God wants them to be.
00:03:06.849 --> 00:03:17.810
Your kids, your teenagers, Your adult children, they are exactly where God wants them to be. And you want to know how to attack anxiety?
00:03:17.810 --> 00:04:13.949
With a plan. So sometimes I will take a step back and I'll do an audit on my time. If I am overthinking what my kids are eating, then let me write down in a day what we are eating. If I am overthinking my health, am I overthinking if I've had enough quality time with my kids? Versus my husband versus my friends versus alone. Let me look at the calendar. Let's do an audit on my time management. Have I spent enough time with my husband? Have I spent enough time with my kids? And I will adjust with a plan. But if everything looks balanced and everything looks okay, then I have to then realize that every thought that makes me feel less than insecure, or fear-filled is not of God. The Bible tells us not to worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow has its worries for itself.
00:04:13.949 --> 00:04:54.990
We can plan for tomorrow, but we as Christians must not worry about tomorrow. My past is in God's hands. My future is in God's hands, which means that my present is also in God's hands. So today I'm just going to approach every minute with joy and trust. And the minute I start to overthink, I'm going to cast those thoughts down and I'm going to declare the blood of Jesus over my mind because I am exactly where the Lord wants me to be. My kids are exactly where they are supposed to be. My marriage, we are doing exactly what we are meant to be doing. I trust God.
00:04:54.990 --> 00:05:32.620
With every minute of my life and my kids' lives, because my kids are in God's hands as well. So if you're overthinking today, just remember, every minute has purpose to it. You are living a purpose-filled life, and that purpose has no room for fear or hesitation or insecurity. Those thoughts do not come from scripture, so they do not come from God. So So cast them down and choose to believe the truth about what God is doing in your life, which is not to give you the spirit of fear, but to give you the spirit of power, of love, and sound mind.
00:05:32.620 --> 00:05:36.060
Let's pray. God, we thank you for what you're doing in our lives.
00:05:36.060 --> 00:05:50.470
And Father, if we struggle with overthinking, if we struggle with thinking poorly about ourselves or allowing those worries or those fears to make us hesitate in life, we lay that down right now at your feet.
00:05:50.470 --> 00:05:57.829
We want to be bold, confident Christians, never questioning ourselves, never questioning where we are.
00:05:57.829 --> 00:06:08.389
Of course, things can always be adjusted, and Lord, we open up our hearts to you right now so that you can show us if we need to balance our time a little better, if we need to alter something.
00:06:08.389 --> 00:06:54.100
But if you are not thinking poorly of us, then we must not think poorly of ourselves. If you are not casting us down, then we will not cast us down. You pull us up, God. You encourage us. You make us feel like enough. You give us our worth, and that is enough for us. And in Jesus' name we pray. Amen. So there you have it, your 5-minute daily dose of heaven.
