Not Everyone Is Called To The Same Assignment

You know, one of the quickest ways to get frustrated in your life is to compare your assignment to someone else's. I think we've all done that. I certainly know that I have. I've spent a lot of years comparing my gifts, my callings, my seasons, my time, my financial situation, my parenting, my marriage to other people in my life. But here's something that I've learned and I want to be able to share with you today out of this verse in Matthew 19. And it's just verse 12. We're just going to stop at verse 12. It's a short verse, but I think we're extracting such revelation from this simple verse. Are you ready? Matthew 19, 12 says, the one who can accept this should accept it. The one who can accept this should accept it. Let's put the emphasis on the word can today. See, Jesus says something here that's easy to miss, but it's very powerful. At my season of life now, it took me a long time to accept this truth. But man, when I accepted it, it changed everything. Because Jesus is just finished talking about singleness and marriage, and he basically makes this point. Not everybody is called the same path. And not everybody has the same assignment. See, that's the truth that should set you free this morning. Not everyone has your assignment. Other people have different assignments. That's why comparing to other people is so dangerous because it will cause us to expend energy comparing rather than the energy that we need on our assignment. Then Jesus says this the one who can accept this should accept it. I think that matters because we do waste so much energy. I wasted a lot of years trying to force myself into someone else's grace, someone else's lane, someone else's calling, or even someone else's timing. I went through infertility, my husband and I did with our first child for four years. We went through it again with our second child for four years. And after surgery, got pregnant with our daughter Stephanie, who you hear on this podcast. But you also hear Lauren and Gabby, who came without even having to try. But I spent a lot of years comparing my fertility to all the fertile myrtles out there. But what I realized was this peace came into my life when I stopped fighting the life that God had assigned for me. And I started embracing that truth with trust. God had a design for me. Now I get to sit here and tell you I struggled with the first two, but look what the Lord did with the two gifts of easy fertility with my last two. See, that's my story, and I'm sticking to it. Yeah, I went through a difficult season, but that was my assignment. What that did in my life was so powerful. And when I accepted it, like this verse says, because I should accept it, I had an assignment, everything changed. Peace came in my life. Now, here's some truths for you. There's three. Are you ready? Number one, God doesn't assign every person the same role, different callings, different seasons, different responsibility. And here's the key different graces. What they have the grace for, they make look easy. You could try the same thing and you don't have the grace for it. It's not your assignment and it will be difficult. Number two, comparison makes you resent the very life God gave you. If you are resenting where you are right now, your marriage, your feeling stuck, your relationship, listen, if you're always looking sideways, you'll miss what God is doing right in front of you. He has an assignment for you. Focus on that. And number three, there is grace for the assignment God actually gave you. And that's why this verse, you should accept it, is so important because there's grace on your assignment. I call it grease. Yeah, grease that makes the wheels run smooth. That's grace. Not the one you wish you had, not the one that looks easier to you, not the one someone else is walking in. No, stop looking at other people. The grace is on your assignment. The grease is on your wheel. So here's our prayer today. Are you ready? Let's pray this together. Lord, free us from the trap of comparison. Help me stop measuring my life against somebody else's calling, someone else's timeline or their grace. Teach me to embrace what you've assigned to my life, and I will put my trust in you. And I want to thank you, Lord, for what you're doing in my life right now. Give me the peace in my lane. Give me joy in my place. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen. So stop asking why their life looks different and start asking, Lord, how do I steward what you've given me well?
