00:00:00.400 --> 00:00:14.880
You're listening to the My Morning Devotional podcast, episode 1288. Today's episode is called New Wine. Hey there. We're the Aleskies, a ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida.
00:00:14.960 --> 00:00:29.879
And if you're like us, when days get busy and to do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time. That's why we've partnered with our friend Allison to produce a five minute daily dose of heaven. This is the My Morning Devotional podcast.
00:00:30.280 --> 00:00:52.200
Hello, everyone. My name is Lauren Alessi. Happy Wednesday. This week, well, today we're talking about new wine, which I think you know where I'm going with this. But this week we are talking about being made for more, stretching our capacity in some way, not giving up. You know, we're talking. We're all over the place, but we're in the same topic of conversation. But today we are talking about new
00:00:52.200 --> 00:01:03.159
22, and it says this, and no one pours new wine into old wineskins. They pour new wine into new wineskins.
00:01:03.640 --> 00:01:17.400
It's funny, I think of this verse and I go back to when we talked or joked about the Miami Seaquarium bit. A little bit about. I use the song Miami Seaquarium for my morning devotional.
00:01:18.120 --> 00:01:29.310
And if you missed Monday's episode, I gave you a quick recap of of Miami. Dade county forced Miami Seaquarium, which is our aquarium, to close down because of the state the aquarium was in.
00:01:29.310 --> 00:02:08.610
And basically Miami Seaquarium refused. They were like, no, we're going to stay open. Like, we're just going to do what we want to do. So they mandated them to close down like four years ago. And you can buy tickets and go to Miami Seaquarium today. And I'm sure they handle the animals terribly. I'm sure the aquarium's in a terrible state, but you can still go. But as I was reading this verse, it kind of came to my mind. I was like, man, Miami Seaquarium literally could have just closed down, rebuilt it, followed what the state or the county wanted them to follow and probably would have been in much better business instead of just refusing to close down.
00:02:09.330 --> 00:03:19.949
Because why just pour new wine into old wineskins? Why try to keep the old thing and bring it into the new thing? No, like, why do that? And I think this is a little bit of what this verse is talking about. It's like when you know God wants to do something new or grow your capacity or stretch something in your life, don't pour something new into an old version of yourself. God wants to pour something new into a new version of yourself. So that's what we're talking about here with new wine. And with that comes a stretch capacity, comes a new version of you. Maybe it's a version of you being stretched that you haven't been stretched before. Because God wants to pour something new into your life, and he's not going to waste it on an old mindset that you have. He's not going to waste it on giving you a blessing and your same old habits keep on creeping back in. He's just not going to do that. Because the capacity, it's not just about ability, it's about how ready you are. Are you ready for what God has prepared for you? So that's why new wine is really important for new wineskins, because God's not going to pour new wine into old wineskins. So I love this verse because it says that.
00:03:19.949 --> 00:03:27.349
But also we can apply that to like, new wine. We can apply that to your mindset. Maybe your mindset needs to change your.
00:03:27.669 --> 00:03:35.110
Your habits. Maybe you have really bad habits when it comes to relationships or when it comes to how you view certain things.
00:03:35.270 --> 00:03:46.379
And maybe that needs to change. Maybe that's an old wineskin that you need to change, that you need to shed off. And then a lot of times maybe we just need a complete change overall.
00:03:46.539 --> 00:03:53.740
And sometimes I know I've experienced this in my life and maybe this is where you're at today and I'm just gonna push a little bit deeper here.
00:03:53.900 --> 00:04:04.860
And we could talk about wine skins all day, but maybe you're like, I just think God just needs new wine overall. And I just think I need to be totally changed. I just think I need to be totally cleansed.
00:04:05.099 --> 00:04:23.120
I think me as a person, overall, I don't just think it's one or two things. I think it's me. And maybe that's where you're at today. And can I just say, even God loves that you recognize that. And God wants to pour new wine into you as well. God wants to pour something new into you as well.
00:04:23.759 --> 00:04:41.550
So why don't you ask God today, Lord, where are the old mindsets, Lord, where are the old habits? Where's the old wineskin, Lord, make that new. And Lord, even me as a person, God, is. Is that an old wine skin, Lord, do I need to change as a whole person? God? Show me how to do that, Lord, and make me better.
00:04:42.189 --> 00:04:48.990
Maybe that's something you need to reflect on a little bit today and meditate on a little bit today, but let's close this out in prayer.
00:04:49.389 --> 00:05:48.579
Dear Lord, we thank you so much that God, you don't want to pour new wine, something new into old wine skins, God, into something that's old, God, you want to stretch our capacity. You want to make our dreams come true. You want us to be made for more. And God, you want us to be new and better along with it, God, we thank you that you want to grow our capacity, God, So make us ready for it. Because we know capacity isn't just about the ability to do it, God. It's about how ready we are for it, God. So Lord, for every person under the sound of my voice and even this person doing this podcast today, God, show us, Lord, where can we be ready? Is it in our mindset, God? Is it in our habits? Is it in our past, God, things that we need to fix? Is it in our trauma, God? But Lord, make us ready. And if it's a few areas of our life or whether it's our life as a whole, God, we just give it to you in Jesus name and we pray that you're going to pour new wine into new wineskins.
00:05:48.899 --> 00:05:52.540
In Jesus name we pray. Amen. So there you have it.
