You're listening to the My Morning Devotional podcast, episode 1452. Today's Devo is called My Goodness. Hey there. We're the Alessies, a ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida. And if you're like us, when days get busy and to do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time. That's why we've partnered with our friend Allison to produce a five minute daily dose of heaven. This is the My Morning Devotional Podcast. Well, welcome back, everybody. Happy Tuesday, and I hope you guys are having a blessed week and that God's hand is just on you this week. And I'm praying for more and more of his favor upon you and your family. This is Gabby, your host, coming back for this new week. And I'm excited because we're in the middle of looking at two Peter Chapter one. And there's a couple of verses, about five or six verses that we're covering. And, and I'm actually covering it all week. And so I have a couple of different verses that I bring in in a couple of other episodes. But today I want to stay on Second Peter, Chapter one. And so if you have your Bible, you can read it with me in the NIV version, but I'm going to pick it up because we're going to talk about goodness today. I think this is in verse five. It says, for this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith, goodness and to goodness. No knowledge here.

00:01:21.819 --> 00:02:46.189
Peter is talking about, you know, you receive salvation, the divine power of God has given you everything that you need for a godly life. God is going to show you more things through his power and that is what salvation has brought you. So he's almost laying a foundation of what your salvation in Christ gives you. But then he goes on in verse five to talk about, for this very reason, now that you have salvation, it's on us as believers to act, add to our faith. And then he gives you a list of things. And at the top of that list, or the first thing on that list is goodness that as believers, we have to add to our faith goodness. And when we're looking at the word goodness or the attribute of goodness, you know this, this word in second Peter 1:5, goodness. It means moral excellence, exceptional character, and the courageous energy to do what is right and, and noble. And what I think this is, is what's cool about this is it's not a passive good feeling, but it's active. It's something that every moment in our life we have to actively work at goodness and ultimately qualities of goodness is, you know, it's our integrity. It's who we are at our core. And I think this is important for all believers because we do have to work at being good people, at our goodness, making sure morally we are.

00:02:46.189 --> 00:03:15.860
We are staying in right standing with the Lord. I think this is the first thing, I love that. That Peter even mentions it as number one, because this is so important to who we are as believers. You know, our salvation is given to us because of the grace of God, because of the grace and mercy of God. It's through our repentance. Yes. And we acknowledge what we've done and we see our wrongdoings and where we've fallen, but it's his grace that gives us salvation.

00:03:15.860 --> 00:03:56.270
That's why the word of God calls it a gift. Well, if we've been given the gift of salvation, the worst thing we could do is live a life that mistreats that gift and that doesn't honor the gift. And so as believers, I truly believe goodness honors the gift of salvation that God has given us. Being and walking in goodness. I think goodness works with. With even righteousness. You know, being in good standing, being in right standing with God, living in goodness, being good to those around us, being good to our spouse, being good to ourselves. We have to work at goodness.

00:03:56.270 --> 00:04:12.229
And we're looking at the integrity, and we're looking at making sure that we're living a life that is ultimately, it's pleasing to God that every action, every word that we speak, even the thoughts that we think, father, let it be good.

00:04:12.229 --> 00:04:37.750
The end of last year, I turned to my husband, and I could tell that with the holidays coming around and just the stress of paying, really paying for the holidays, like for the first time, and having to look at the budget and paying off different bills and moving into a new house and trying to figure out life as a married couple, I could notice that the tension was getting to us. And it was like everything that came out of our mouth was just negative. It was just. It was bad.

00:04:37.750 --> 00:06:23.639
And so I turned to him one day and I said, you know, I think we need to do like a fast, a fast of negative things, of bad things. And if we go to say something negative or if we go to say something bad towards one another and. And we just start to create that. I think we need to catch ourselves and change it to something good and let everything that's coming from our mouth, even coming from our mind, let it speak well of each other, let it uplift one another and let it feel good, let it not just be something that's bad. Because sometimes you can just so focus on the bad. And I gotta tell you, it was a struggle. It was really difficult. But the fruit of it was so rewarding because we look back on that month and we can see, wow, we didn't really argue that much. You know, we stayed calm, we thought before we spoke because we didn't want what's going to naturally come out of us, which is bad things. We are corrupt people. We didn't want that to rule that season and lead that season. So why do I say that? Because goodness is something that we actively have to work on. So let this be our first, you know, piece of homework as we add to our faith, add goodness, and let's work on our integrity. Let's work on are we trustworthy people? Are we dependable, faithful people? Are we people of our word? If we said we're going to do it, we will do it. Are we negative people or are we positive people? God is calling us to add to our faith goodness. So let's step into that today. Let's see our day in a good way. Let's look at people in a good way. Let's look at our family in a good way. Let's look at our spouse. Help us, Lord. See our spouse in, in a good way and let us add it to our faith. Because goodness, when we live in goodness, it helps reveal the goodness of God.

00:06:23.639 --> 00:06:34.920
When we start to pursue goodness and focus on goodness, you will start to see the goodness of God in your life. Why are we adding this to our faith? Because the goodness of God, he was good first.

00:06:34.920 --> 00:06:39.079
He takes the lead in goodness and we follow after him.

00:06:39.079 --> 00:07:12.810
Father, we just thank you God. I thank you that you are the perfect example of goodness and that you are calling us to that level, Lord, that we can add it to our faith. I pray that you would help us be trustworthy, be dependable. God be righteous towards you. And I pray that all of us would live a life that is pleasing unto you. In Jesus name, Amen. So there you have it. Your 5 minute daily dose of heaven. Thank you so much for tuning in today. We we pray these devotionals empower you to take on your day.
