Life Of Surrender: Part 5

What does it really look like to make Jesus the center of everything we do? In today’s episode, host Lauren Alessi invites us to reflect on what it means to live a life of surrender. Together, we’ll explore the journey of dying to ourselves, letting go of selfish ambitions, and choosing to step into the grace, peace, and power found only in Christ. Drawing from Romans 6:11, Lauren shares her heart and personal experiences, reminding us that surrender is not just about what we give up, but also about the new life we come alive to in God.
Let’s join together as a community in prayer and daily devotion, asking God to fill us with His Spirit and truly be the center of all we do.

You are listening to the My Morning Devotional podcast, episode 1330. Today's episode is called Life of Surrender Part 5. Hey there. We're the Alessi's a ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida. And if you're like us, when days get busy and to do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time.
00:00:21.600 --> 00:00:49.640
That's why we've partnered with our friend Allison to produce a five minute daily dose of heaven. This is the My Morning Devotional podcast. Hello everyone, my name is Lauren Alessi and I have been your host for this week. And we've talked about living a life of surrender and dying to ourselves, dying to sin, dying to it daily, taking up our cross daily. And today's verse is kind of touching on counting ourselves dead to sin.
00:00:50.119 --> 00:01:11.659
And I kind of wanted to give a, a quick synopsis of like, why this subject really touched me and why I was like, I really want to talk about this and even just say, hey, it's called the Life of Surrender, five parts. Because I think it's simple to the point, but we really need to dwell on it because first of all, this whole life of surrender, dying to ourselves had just been in my heart already.
00:01:12.459 --> 00:01:33.370
And then we at our church had a worship night and we were just able to just sort of just dwell in the presence of God and dwelling in the presence of God, I just really felt convicted about how even worship, even church sometimes, even church work sometimes can just be done out of maybe.
00:01:34.569 --> 00:03:03.599
And I'm speaking about myself here, I don't, I'm not projecting onto others simply about myself, but worship. For me, sometimes church, church work can become a lot about the wrong things instead of Jesus being at the center of it all. And in this worship rehearsal when we just started worshiping and we were just singing about Jesus being the center of it all, I just really felt convicted in that moment. And I really felt like, okay, I've been doing church, I've been doing the Christian thing, I've been doing good things, but I just felt like I've still been sinning because I wasn't putting Jesus at the center. And I just made that decision in that moment. Okay, God, I'm dying to this sin and I'm taking up my cross daily. And you're going to be at the center of all my decision making, of my worship, of my work decisions, of my small like, of my small and big decisions. You're going to be at the center of it all, God, because you matter to me, Lord. And I really did feel convicted in that moment because I genuinely felt like in my heart I had been sinning. And so I feel like this verse of the day is important and it says this. Romans 6, 11, count yourselves dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus. And although I think it's very important that we do need to say, hey, I sinned, and Lord, forgive me, because I think that's an important part of repentance. And sometimes we just want to get so quickly to the grace part.
00:03:05.759 --> 00:04:31.899
Repentance is a very. You don't get grace without repentance. So we need to repent. But I felt like after I repented, I just felt the grace of God come in and say, okay, now, now, here comes the work. But count yourself dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus. So why do I say all this? Well, because for me and for maybe those listening, if you can relate, dying to self isn't just about what I let go of, but it's about what I come alive to. So dying to myself isn't about, okay, Lord, I, I, I just let go of this selfish ambition that I may put into worship. I just let go of this selfish ambition that I put into church work, but it's about what I come alive to, Lord. I come alive to you being the center of it all that's truly dying to it all that's truly dying to myself. I want you to be the center of everything I do. My dreams and desires, my Sunday mornings, my evenings. I want you to be the center of all of that. And when we say no to sin, when I said last night in worship rehearsal, when I'm like, God, I'm done doing this and forgive me God. When we say no to sin, we step into grace, peace and power through Christ. Because you know what? I'm ready for Christ to be the center of it all. I'm ready for God to be the center of it all. And that's when true grace comes in. That's when true power comes in.
00:04:32.300 --> 00:05:20.970
When Jesus isn't the center of it all, there's no true grace, there's no true peace, there's no true power because he's not our center. He's just a part of our life. So we don't just die to something. We don't just die to a decision, but we're raised into a new life, a life full of purpose and a life full of joy in Him. I hope this week has blessed you. I hope that we can daily make the decision to die to ourselves and take up our cross daily and follow him. Let's pray. Dear God, we choose to die, to sin, and to come alive in you and to Lord make you the center of it all. God, fill us with your spirit and lead us into the life of fullness that you have promised us, Lord, because you are at the center of it all. In Jesus name we pray.
00:05:21.370 --> 00:05:43.449
