Life Of Surrender: Part 4

Life Of Surrender: Part 4

What does it look like to truly value others above ourselves, even when it feels so countercultural? In today's episode, host Lauren Alessi invites us to reflect on the life-changing power of humility and surrender as we continue our journey through "Life of Surrender." Together, we'll explore Philippians 2 and learn how dying to our selfish ambition and letting go of the need for recognition can open our hearts to serve and love those around us—just as Jesus did. We'll be encouraged to make room for God in our everyday lives and discover how self-denial isn't just inward, but something that affects everyone we encounter.

Join our community in prayer and devotion as we ask God to help us love with humility, serve selflessly, and see others through His eyes.

You are listening to the My Morning Devotional podcast, episode 1329. Today's episode is called Life of Surrender Part 4. Hey there. We're the Alessi's, a ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida. And if you're like us, when days get busy and to do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time.

00:00:21.920 --> 00:00:43.250
That's why we've partnered with our friend Allison to produce a five minute daily dose of heaven. This is the My Morning Devotional podcast. Hello, everyone, My name is Lauren Alessi and I am your host for this week. And we're just talking about living a life of surrender and dying to ourselves daily. I just want to jump straight into the scripture and it says this.

00:00:43.570 --> 00:01:19.670
Philippians 2, 3, 4. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather in humility. Value others above yourselves. I kind of want us all to picture maybe one person in our lives because there's. Unfortunately, I feel like there's very few selfless people out there in the world today. But if you know somebody who's like, truly humble, truly selfless, that just likes to do things just out of the goodness of their heart, try to picture that one person and just try to picture, like, what it's like to be around them.

00:01:20.560 --> 00:02:37.849
I'm picturing somebody right now, and to be honest, it's almost weird processing how their brain works for me, I'm like, how do you do things just out of pure humility, just because you simply are just so kind and maybe you are that person and you're like, I don't understand how Lauren doesn't get it. That's just kind of, you know, how my brain operates. Maybe I'm just a really mean person and I get it. Fine, I'll accept that. I just really want to sort of take a moment and just like what it's like for those people, how they just do things out of humility, out of valuing others above themselves. And that's what God calls us to do every day. And I will say, even though my personality is not someone who's going, okay, let me just do something out of the goodness of my heart. Hey, that's an area. God's saying, that's what you've got to lay down and surrender to me and make room for me. Because the Word is saying, do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. So surrender that to me and make room for me. Because God is a God of humility. The Word says that the last shall be first, and the first shall be last. Dying to yourself is not just internal, but it shows how we treat others. Self denial looks like humility.

00:02:38.810 --> 00:03:06.469
Putting others before ourselves and letting go of the need to be seen or the need to be praised. I feel like this is so foreign in today's society. Self denial and humility and. And letting go of the need to constantly be told, oh, you did really good. Or, or I see you. Especially with social media, that's just a constant. The need to be seen, the need to be praised. Jesus modeled this so perfectly when he chose to wash feet.

00:03:07.550 --> 00:03:33.069
And I think it's good. Look, let's have both. Jesus had his feet washed, but then Jesus also said, no, no, no, now it's my turn to wash your feet. Jesus took the role of servant over just his status. You're talking about a man who performed miracles for thousands. And then he said, let me kneel down and let me wash your feet. But let's remember that dying to ourselves, living a life of surrender is not just.

00:03:34.009 --> 00:03:51.770
It's not just a daily decision we make for ourselves. It needs to be something we do for others. Because when Christ starts to do a work in us, it does affect the people around us. And let's not do it out of okay, I want Christ to come into me so that I can be a better person out of selfish ambition. But let's do it out of humility.

00:03:52.250 --> 00:04:25.769
God, I'm nothing without you, Lord. I need you in my life. I need to make room for you in my life. Because, Lord, I am nothing without you, Lord. Lord, let's pray. Jesus, strip us of our selfish ambition. God. Anything that's calling us to be more selfish, God or more vain, God, just strip us of it, Lord. Get rid of it. God. Teach us to love, Lord, with humility. Maybe this is such a foreign concept today. With humility, Lord. But teach us to love with humility and to see others the way you do, God, the way you see others.

00:04:25.769 --> 00:04:40.189
God, give us eyes to see. See with patience, with grace, with love. God, give us eyes to see others the way you do, Lord. Lord, may our life be one of service and not just self promotion. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

00:04:40.910 --> 00:05:01.930
