Let's Talk: Part 2: Check Your Fountain

Let's Talk: Part 2: Check Your Fountain

Do our words bring life to the people around us, or do they sometimes add to the chaos? In today’s episode, host Gaby Alessi invites us into an honest conversation about the power of our words as she continues the “Let’s Talk” series. Together, we’ll explore Proverbs 10:11 and reflect on how easy it is for our exhaustion or frustration to turn our words into sources of negativity—yet God calls us to be fountains of life. Through real-life stories and heartfelt lessons, we’ll learn how to speak life even on our toughest days and allow God’s grace to help us uplift those we encounter.

Let’s come together in prayer and devotion as we seek to be people whose words overflow with life, hope, and encouragement.

You're listening to the My Morning Devotional podcast, episode 1332. Today's Devo is called let's Talk Part Two. Hey there. We're the Alessies, a ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida. And if you're like us, when days get busy and to do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time. That's why we've partnered with our friend Allison to produce a five minute daily dose of heaven. This is the My Morning Devotional podcast. Well, welcome back, everybody, to the My Morning Devo. Gabby Alessi, your host for the week. And as you heard from yesterday, we are jumping into a topic that I think all of us need to talk about. Notice what I did there? This is the let's Talk series. And all week long we are talking about the words that come from our mouth. We're talking about the thoughts that we have that we don't catch and they just slip out in front of the whole family. Or the comments that we might post on Instagram, or the thing that we say to our significant other in a moment of frustration, or the things that we might say to our kids when we don't think it through. That's what we are talking about this week. So let's talk about it. I don't know about you, this is something that I struggle with daily. But I am grateful that we have a God and we have a grace from God that understands us, but also challenges us and leads us in the right direction. And that direction Today

00:01:28.200 --> 00:01:38.680
11 that says this. The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life, but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence.

00:01:39.319 --> 00:02:33.439
I gotta tell you. So I said it a little bit earlier. I just got back from a youth camp last week and these youth camps are the most exciting, probably the best week of the year for all of us as leaders. And it is, it is fun. For 24, 7. It's five full days, six days if you include the travel of non stop fun and games and intense services and uplifting services and high energy. So every single day you have to be on your game. Well, after six days of being on your game, taking care of others, making big decisions, it's just draining. And so it got to, I think it was Saturday because we got home last Friday and we got to Saturday and I remember I was feeling really exhausted and my fiance and I, we, we went, we got lunch and I was just not even in the mood to eat. I wasn't in the mood to be around People. Then Sunday rolled around and we went to church.

00:02:33.439 --> 00:03:19.979
And I didn't really do a lot at church that Sunday because the week was so busy and I was doing announcements. And as church came to an. To a close, I found myself. Because of exhaustion, I found myself kind of getting impatient and I started to get short with people and I could feel just that rage coming up in me where I. I needed to get away, I needed to sleep, I needed to disconnect. It was dangerous for me to be around more people, frankly. And so I go home, I'm taking a nap, like I'm just kind of getting ready. I'm taking off my makeup from the Sunday. And that takes forever, ladies, if you know what I mean. And my fiance calls me and he's like, hey, I'm gonna go to lunch with these people if you wanna join. And right then and there I was just like, I am done and I am this and I am that.

00:03:20.539 --> 00:03:54.710
And it was a fountain of complaining and a fountain of destruction and a fountain of excuses. And my, My poor Christian, I felt so bad. I. He was trying to stop me. He was trying to correct me, not, not in a bad way, but he was just trying to stop this fountain, unplug the excuses, because he. He was figuring, okay, this is just exhaustion. But I had a moment where every word that came from my. My mouth was not life. It was not life giving at all.

00:03:55.189 --> 00:04:13.610
It was complaining. It was talking bad about others, it was talking bad about the situation. And I remember at the end of the day, he and I had a conversation and it hit me so strongly because he, he. He reminded me that we came back from such a life giving event where for six days we poured into young people. God poured into us. We.

00:04:13.770 --> 00:04:28.730
We met the Lord. He spoke to us. We were, we were in heaven for six days. And when we came home, I just disregarded everything that I experienced. I disregarded the life that God gave us.

00:04:28.730 --> 00:04:32.069
I disregarded the life that I experienced on the moun that camp.

00:04:32.470 --> 00:04:50.470
And I started to. I started to just stir up wickedness. I started to stir up gossip. I started to stir up animosity, frustration towards. Towards people. And it was really. Violence is an intense word, but honestly, the words that I were using were not bringing peace to the situation.

00:04:51.430 --> 00:04:55.029
And that was the moment where I was like, I need to pull back.

00:04:55.670 --> 00:05:03.220
And this verse, it speaks to us as righteous people when we are in right standing with God. Because Jesus calls us righteous.

00:05:03.220 --> 00:05:18.740
He has made us righteous, right? If he calls me righteous even when I'm tired I can't let my mouth become a fountain of death and destruction. Even when I'm done, even when I'm fed up, I have to control the words that come from my my mouth.

00:05:18.740 --> 00:05:32.990
Because as a righteous person, I am called to speak words that are a fountain of life that people come to and drink from. You see, that's what people always say the fountain of life is so people can come and drink.

00:05:33.790 --> 00:05:48.269
Man, are our words something that are worth drinking, are worth receiving? Are your words something that would bring life to somebody? Or would it bring confusion? Would it bring stress? Would it bring chaos to their situation?

00:05:49.480 --> 00:06:22.370
God is calling us as righteous people, people in right standing with God. He is calling us to speak in a way that brings life and not just a little bit of life, but life that overflows like a fountain. So when people come to us, they can drink from the life giving words that we bring them and they can experience life too. Can I pray for you today, Lord, I thank you for the life that you've given us. I thank you that you have called us righteous and that you are calling us to live a life that is righteous and pleasing unto you.

00:06:22.689 --> 00:07:07.009
And so, Father, I pray that all of us this week, every episode is just a reminder that we need to be a fountain of life. That a fountain of life needs to come from our very mouth. Not just our actions, not just, not just our posture, Lord, but every word that we speak week and help us do so. This week. In Jesus name we pray. Amen and Amen. So there you have it.
