You are listening to the My Morning Devotional podcast, episode 1453.
00:00:03.839 --> 00:00:06.799
Today's Devo is called Knowledge.
00:00:06.799 --> 00:00:30.519
Hey there. We're the Alessi's A Ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida. And if you're like us, when days get busy and to do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time. That's why we've partnered with our friend Allison to produce a five minute daily dose of heaven. This is the My Morning Devotional Podcast. Well, welcome back, everybody.
00:00:30.519 --> 00:00:49.520
Happy Wednesday. Hope you guys are all having a great week and I pray that this is blessing you. We are looking at the book of two, Peter, and we're going through the first chapter and verses three through nine. And today we're going to look at the word knowledge, adding knowledge to our faith.
00:00:49.520 --> 00:01:39.079
I think this is so important for believers, especially, especially today, because we have a lot of people that challenge us and ask us a lot of questions about our faith. And so what I want to talk about in this episode, I'm Gabby, your host, by the way, in case you can't recognize my voice. But what I want to talk about in this episode is two types of knowledge. The first type would be worldly knowledge, and then the second type is going to be godly knowledge, a knowledge that comes from the Lord, which I think the best way to say it is wisdom, right? And I think in this verse, Peter is talking about wisdom, godly wisdom. There is worldly wisdom and then there is godly wisdom. And so the knowledge and worldly wisdom, I first want to talk about this and, and I want to say I think this is also important. It's not more important than wisdom.
00:01:39.079 --> 00:01:54.230
But I do think this is important for us to study our Word and to know our word, to not just read it, but to know what we're reading. Because, yes, we will be challenged in it, not just by people, but our own doubt and our own fear and unbelief.
00:01:54.230 --> 00:02:09.830
And so I think it's good for us to know the word of God, know where it's coming from. Even when I was studying and I was looking at this verse, I went back because I wanted to see who Peter was talking to, you know, what's the context of this?
00:02:09.830 --> 00:02:28.000
So I do think the worldly wisdom, which might just be like your everyday wisdom, you know, why is God saying this in the Bible? Or what's the background, what's the context? And that is important because people will challenge it and you will challenge it. And we have to have the facts. We have to know what we are reading.
00:02:28.000 --> 00:02:53.500
But the other part of this that I want to talk about, which is adding to our knowledge, it's godly wisdom, adding knowledge and wisdom to our faith. I want to read to you the verse. It's in first Corinthians 2: 12, and this is also in the NIV version, and it says this. What we have received is not the Spirit of the world, but, but the Spirit who is from God so that we may understand what God has freely given us.
00:02:53.500 --> 00:03:01.020
This is what we speak not in words taught us by human wisdom, but in words taught by the Spirit.
00:03:01.020 --> 00:04:58.379
Explaining spiritual realities with spirit taught words. What is this saying? It's telling us that there is a wisdom and a knowledge that comes from the Lord, that people without the Spirit that are not spirit filled, they don't understand it. And in order for you to understand these things, you have to be filled with the Spirit. So the point that I'm trying to make is there is a knowledge that we can receive that is a worldly knowledge that's more of a basic knowledge, you know, what the word of God is, who God is, all of those things. But then there is a knowledge, there is a wisdom that we can tap into through the word of God and through his Spirit that gives us wisdom that not just everybody understands. And it's something we have to pursue, it's something that we have to study. It's something that, you know, even I, as, as a speaker at a youth group, as somebody that speaks on this podcast, it's something that I'm challenged with daily. You know, I, I read the word of God and every time I read it, I ask the Lord God, speak to me, tell me what these words mean. You know, even sometimes we'll, we'll say, and I'll be honest here, we'll say something on the show and I'll listen back and I go, man, maybe I didn't understand it. The, and the Lord will challenge me. And then I'll go back deeper and I'll realize, oh, this is what he was trying to say. And it's not bad if we misinterpret. It's bad if we get stuck in our own interpretation. And we never pursue God's interpretation, God's knowledge on it. And I truly believe that believers need to make this a priority. We have to prioritize pursuing the knowledge of God, pursuing wisdom. We have to prioritize taking time to look at the book of Proverbs to see, you know, what is the wise way to go about things. If we go off of our own instinct, of our own experience of things. It's only going to take us so far. And God is going to take us to levels and to new opportunities and he's going to place you in rooms where you cannot lean on your own understanding, you have to lean on his.
00:04:58.379 --> 00:05:02.620
And that understanding, that knowledge only comes from the Spirit.
00:05:02.620 --> 00:05:36.410
So for us as believers, salvation is a great starting point. It's the starting line. But we have to add to our faith knowledge, knowledge of worldly knowledge. It's good to be intelligent in the world. It's not bad to be. It's something that we should be. But also godly knowledge and pursue that knowledge and ask the Spirit to teach you more. It's a beautiful thing when you can sit in the morning, maybe even after you listen to this episode, you just open up and you open your mouth and say, God, teach me.
00:05:36.410 --> 00:06:44.129
Show me. Tell me what I'm missing. Tell me what I need to know. If you're in the middle of a situation and you don't know what to do, pause and say, God, tell me what I should do. Show me what I need to do. Show me the steps that you've ordered for me. Because those are things, those are moves, those are our decisions that you'll always only be able to make when the Spirit shows it to you. And so that's my prayer for all of us today. Father, I thank you for your spirit. I thank you that you sent, you've sent your spirit, God to speak to us, to teach us, to enlighten us and reveal things to us, Lord. And I pray all of us would add knowledge to our faith this week, God, that we would be challenged in learning more about you, asking you more questions so you can reveal the answers to us. Lord, I pray that you would surround us with the right people to teach us and to lead us and to help us develop in our knowledge. I thank you for it. In Jesus name, amen. So there you have it, your 5 minute daily dose of heaven. Thank you so much for tuning in today.
