Humility Brings Honor

Humility Brings Honor

What does it look like to truly walk in humility, even when pride tries to sneak into our daily routines? In today's episode, host Lauren Alessi guides us through the wisdom of Proverbs 29:23 and unpacks what it means to trade our pride for a posture of humility. Together, we’ll explore practical ways to recognize pride in our relationships and daily actions, and learn how choosing humility can lead to genuine honor in God’s eyes.

Join our community as we invite God to search our hearts, help us let go of pride, and grow in humility—trusting that He will lift us up in His perfect timing. Let’s unite in prayer and devotion as we seek to be humble and open to God’s transforming work today.

00:00:00.320 --> 00:00:10.880
You're listening to the My Morning Devotional podcast, episode 1366. Today's Devo is called Humility Brings Honor. Hey there.

00:00:10.880 --> 00:00:48.119
We're the Alessi's, a ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida. And if you're like us, when days get busy and to do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time. That's why we've partnered with our friend Allison to produce a five minute daily dose of heaven. This is the My Morning Devotional podcast. Hello everyone, my name is Lauren Alessi and I am your host for this week and for the first two days of this week, considering we're still in September, I'm still going to be speaking out of the book of Proverbs because Proverbs a day keeps the enemy away. No?

00:00:48.119 --> 00:01:21.209
And I just also love the book of Proverbs. I think it's great and it's actually a very special week. Key, keep our other co host and my sister Gabby in your prayers as this Friday she will be getting married. So it's very, very exciting for our family and her and her fiance Christian are very, very excited for their marriage. So just keep them in your prayers. But today we're going to be reading out of the book of Proverbs. And today's episode is called Humility Brings Honor. And as we speak out of today's Proverb,

00:01:21.209 --> 00:01:53.900
23 and it says this, pride brings a person low, but the lowly in spirit gain honor. I love this verse because it's basically just all about humility and how sometimes with our human logic, we think when we want to gain things, when we want control, when we want power, we need to be strong, we need to elevate ourselves, we need to prove our own worth, right? And like we, we need to walk into a room and we have to demand respect. And that's not how the kingdom of God works.

00:01:53.900 --> 00:02:15.219
That's our, that's how our own flesh works. That we need to make our own way and we need to provide for ourselves. And the truth is scripture and God, he turns this upside down because to him, the true path to honor and respect is not through making our own way and through climbing over others, but it's through humbling ourselves before God.

00:02:16.430 --> 00:02:59.759
And it says this also, that pride comes before a fall. But pride really destroys your life. And pride is gonna isolate you because it makes you think that you have to do it all on your own. Everybody has to respect you, Everybody has to respect me. But when you're humble instead of prideful. When you work through humility, God opens doors through humility. God shows favor through humility. Jesus himself modeled through humility and not through pride. Jesus could have come through and said into the world and said, okay, I'm the Son of God and I can provide and do miracles. But he, he wasn't prideful about it. He was humble, he was lowly in spirit, he served others, he washed others feet, he was humble.

00:03:00.879 --> 00:03:07.599
And look how God exalted him. In the end. When we choose humility, we're not choosing weakness.

00:03:08.159 --> 00:03:54.039
We're not making ourselves lower than others. We're simply just placing ourself in a powerful and in a humble posture. And that is under God's hand for him to work and for him to elevate us in his right timing. So here's a couple questions you can ask yourself today. And that is, where have you seen pride in your own life? Maybe it's in relationships and friendships and marriage and, and family members. And when they try to correct us, we like the way we do things and we're not a fan of that. And I will say I am, even I fall prey to this. And when they try to correct us and make us better and make us stronger, we, we're not a fan of that. But that's pride. And maybe that part of us, that prideful part, is saying, I don't need you to speak into my life.

00:03:54.039 --> 00:04:55.769
I don't need you to correct me. I know what I'm doing here and I don't need everyone telling me what to do all the time. And the truth is, that's pride. So if that's pride in your life, then what does humility look like? What does it look like to be lowly in spirit? And maybe that's something deep and maybe that's something you need to search out in your heart. Or maybe that's something that can be practical. Can you be the one to say, hey, this time I'm going to wash the dishes instead of complaining and say, you know, why do I always have to wash the dishes? Why can't this person wash the dishes? Can you take the lowly in spirit and the humble position and just say, you know what? It doesn't even matter, I'm going to wash the dishes. And that's just a practical, practical thing. But maybe when someone comes to correct you today or correct you on how you see things or how you do things at work, instead of getting defensive and prideful, can you just drop your pride? Just try it Try to drop your pride and say, you know what, let me take the humble position. Maybe they see something in me that I don't see. Because the Bible says that pride brings a person low.

00:04:56.009 --> 00:04:59.209
But the lowly in spirit gain honor.

00:05:00.019 --> 00:05:48.029
Let's pray. Lord, search our hearts right now, God, and anywhere that you see any false ways and any pride, God, we ask that you remove it. God, even from myself, Lord, as I'm speaking, God, remove the prideful ways in me. It's not worth it to be prideful. It's simply just not worth it. And Lord, help us be lowly in spirit. Help us be humble, God, show us what that looks like, Lord, so that ultimately we can be under your hands, that we can be exalted in your right timing. And Lord, you can just work through us. Because we know, Lord, you can't work through a prideful person. So help us to become lowly in spirit. In Jesus name we pray. Amen. So there you have it. Your 5 minute daily dose of heaven. Thank you so much for tuning in today. We pray these devotionals empower you to take on your day.
