00:00:30.239 --> 00:00:40.960
Welcome to another episode of my Morning Devotional Podcast. My name is Rachelle Alessi, and I've been with you this week and I really hope that the last couple days have blessed you.
00:00:40.960 --> 00:00:44.560
And today we're going to talk about prayer and how to pray.
00:00:44.560 --> 00:01:09.870
And a couple of weeks ago, actually, I had almost an entire week I did on this, but I brought on a guest, Jackie Roman, and. And she helped me on this topic because I truly believed she had the knowledge and experience to truly talk about prayer. And I wanted to bring back prayer because I think it's something that as Christians we do every day and sometimes we overthink it or just get too comfortable with it.
00:01:10.269 --> 00:01:17.469
And what I love about what we're also talking about today is because the verse that I'm bringing to you is the prayer of Jesus.
00:01:18.030 --> 00:01:59.840
I remember I was watching the Chosen a couple of weeks ago. There was a scene where Jesus and the disciples are together. And you see throughout the show how Jesus is teaching that disciples how to minister and how to be Christians and do the new Christian way. The disciples actually asked him, jesus, how do we pray? And Jesus looks at them and he just shows them how to pray. And I remember like almost crying in that episode. But this is where we pick up. And this is the prayer that Jesus teaches his disciples how to pray. And it says like this. It's found in Matthew 6, 9. Pray then like this.
00:02:00.239 --> 00:03:56.490
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be youe name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forget our debts, as we also forget our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. This is such a simple prayer, but I just encourage you guys that if you sometimes don't know what to pray, I know sometimes we can sit and we wonder. I don't know what to pray today. I don't know how to pray for somebody. I don't know what to say to God today. Start here. It is always good to Greet our Father in heaven to praise his name, to declare that his will will be done not just in our lives, but in heaven and on earth, to thank God for him to give us our daily bread. We all know that we need something each day. We love to pray about what is worrying us tomorrow or what's worrying us a month from now. How about we pray about what we need today? And what I love about this prayer is that Jesus is saying, pray for what you need today because the Lord will provide for you what you need today. It talks about forgiveness and how important it is for us to forgive, forgive people so others can forgive us. And it reminds us, it keeps us in a posture of humility, that we're not perfect. And just as we need to forgive, others need to forgive us. And it keeps us humble. And I love that because if we approach everything with humility, our hearts will be pure. And I love that. The end. He says, lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. And guys, this is such an important thing to pray every day for us not to fall into temptation. And sometimes we hear that word and we think it's of a big sin. But how about the little things every day?
00:03:56.650 --> 00:05:44.939
How about we gave into temptation about think thoughts about somebody that we shouldn't be. Maybe we shouldn't be thinking that that person is annoying or is bothering us or is making us angry. Yes, we process out what we're feeling, but maybe we shouldn't let our minds to even gossip even within ourselves about that person or with others. How about the little things of maybe we didn't do what we said we would do or the things that we know we should be doing and we're not doing that are right for our lives, but we're just not doing. And so I encourage you guys today that if you do not know how to pray or you're stuck in your prayer life, start with this prayer. Find in Matthew and remember this is the prayer that the Lord taught others to pray. And so how much more if these are Jesus words, how much more do we need to take this and pray it? And so I encourage you today, go read this on your own time, pull it up on your phone on your actual Bible and read this. And as you're reading it, say each word to the Lord and pray to him. And I'm really excited to see the time that you spend with the Lord. So let's pray. Father God, thank you for teaching us how to pray. Thank you for laying it in your word. Thank you for being a support to us. Thank you for being patient with us, and thank you for being with us every single day of our lives. I pray that Father, you will be with every listener as they pray today. I pray that their prayer life will continue to be unlocked so they are able to hear you better. They are able to see you even in the little things of life, because they are walking alive, surrendered to you in prayer in their everyday life. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
