God's Strength Is Enough

Where do we find true strength when our days feel overwhelming? In today's episode, Lauren Burgos invites us to reflect on the familiar yet powerful promise of Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Together, we'll explore what it really means to draw our daily strength from the Lord, not from our own abilities, and how the joy of the Lord becomes our foundation when life doesn’t go as planned. Lauren Alessi Burgos

Hello, everyone. My name is Lauren Burgos, and I have changed my last name every episode this week. I'm just trying new things. What flows best? Anyways, my name is Lauren Burgos, and I am your host for this week. We are reading out of the verses we know. Wait, the verses we know and the truth we need. Um, yeah, and we've read out of Jeremiah 29:11, John 3.16, Proverbs 3.5. And today we're going to read out of besides John 3.16, I think another verse, another very, very commonly known verse. And if you can guess it, you get a prize. No, you don't. And it is Philippians 4.13. Does anybody want to say it together? And it says this I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. This verse just takes me right back to like Sunday school or now what we call kids' ministry. It's funny how that changed so drastically. But it really does because I still see this is like the first verse that kids learn when they come to church. And it talks about being like strong. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. And I think sometimes we forget to carry that into adulthood. That like Christ makes us strong and we can do all things through him. This also reminds me of another verse in the Bible that talks about like how the Lord, the joy of the Lord is our strength. And how when we have the joy of the Lord, that's truly what gives us strength. And then we're talking about how we can do all things through Christ who gives us strength. And I've just been pondering on how God gives us strength recently. And I'm like, man, what other religion does that? This is a side note, but what other religion does that? What other God does that? Of course, I believe this is the only God to exist. I think our God is the only God. But I we've I've been watching a show recently where like the main character is Muslim and I it's very interesting. And I was exercising the other day and talking about being strong, and I was like, that song, The Joy of the Lord, the joy of the Lord is my strength. And I was like, where else does that principle come from? That strength doesn't come from muscle mass, it doesn't come from muscle volume, it doesn't come from sacrificing your own beliefs, but strength comes from joy, and the joy of the Lord is your strength. And the Lord gives you joy to get through every day. Like, what other religion, what other like I that has just been blowing my mind lately. So, anyways, that's just a side note. And if you're having a tough day, if you're just feeling down, just listen to that song, ponder on that thought that the joy of the Lord is your strength, not your own strength, not what you can do by your own ability, but the joy of the Lord. And the Lord gives you joy. But then also coming into I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. I don't know about you, but when I'm facing some tough times, I need the Lord to strengthen me. And I don't need to do all things, but I just need to get through one day. I just need to have an answer for one thing. And just to be reassured, hold on, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. And it's funny, as Christians, we take this verse and we're like, yeah, I can do all things. I can I can take over the world through Christ who strengthens me. But then we get flustered when we have a tough day. And I'm talking about myself. I get flustered when I have a tough day. But then how am I going from like zero to 100? When I'm having a tough day, I need to recognize, wait, I can get through this tough day because I can do all things. I can handle this tough day through Christ who gives me strength because he gives me the joy of the Lord. And the joy of the Lord is my strength. So if you're like me and lately it's like every day is pushing through and it's just kind of tough. And it's like we were saying in episode one, which by the way, I have a lovely life. I'm not complaining. But there are just some things where it's like, man, God, I thought life would look different. I thought you'd answer this prayer. I thought you'd come through by now, and you haven't. And I'm just wondering why you haven't. And and uh, you know, you're coming through for other people. How those thoughts can so easily get you down and in a place where where your days are not as good, where you're just struggling to get by, where you're looking at other people get good reports, but you're not. The joy of the Lord is your strength. You don't need to lean on your own understanding, like we were saying yesterday, but you just need to trust God and recognize hold on, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. And he strengthens me by giving me joy, because the joy of the Lord is my strength. And all things doesn't mean like we're gonna go to war and I'm gonna fight and I'm gonna win because I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Like that's taking it too far. But all things through Christ who strengthens me means, hey, you got three little kids at home and you think you're gonna drive yourself crazy. You can get through today. God can give you strength. Or you thought you'd have that job by now, and God's just not opening any doors. Listen, God can give you strength for today. God can give you strength for the week. Or your finances are not where you thought they were, and you're like, God, I need you to show up. God can give you strength because you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you. So whatever you're facing, whether it's singleness, infertility, job loss, or just struggling in this economy, whatever it is, understand it, it's not just big things, it's whatever personal things. You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you. And let's never forget that. Let's pray. Dear Lord, we thank you so much for this week. We thank you so much for these Bible verses, God. That yes, they are the verses we know, but they are the truth and the knowledge that we need. So let that settle with us, God, that we can do all things through you who strengthens us, through your son who strengthens us, and give us the strength day by day to get through. In Jesus' name we pray.
