Have you ever struggled to be generous because you were worried about whether you'd have enough for yourself?

In today's episode, Gaby Alessi Calatayud takes us into Philippians 4:14–20 as we close out our study through the book of Philippians. Through Paul's gratitude for the generosity of the Philippian church, we're reminded that we can live generously because we serve a generous God. Our giving isn't meant to be a transaction where we expect something in return, but a reflection of God's character and our trust in His provision.

We'll be challenged to examine where we've placed our security and whether fear has caused us to hold too tightly to what we have. While God doesn't promise a life without difficulties or unlimited financial abundance, He invites us to trust Him as our provider. When we recognize that our greatest treasure is found in Christ, we can approach our finances, relationships, and opportunities to serve with greater freedom and generosity.

Let's join in prayer and devotion as a community, asking God to give us generous hearts, strengthen our trust in His provision, and remind us that our security isn't found in what we possess, but in the One who faithfully provides for us.

You're listening to the My Morning Devotional Podcast, episode 1650. Today's Devo is called God Will Provide. Hey there, we're the Alessis, a ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida. And if you're like us, when days get busy, the to-do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time. That's why every weekday we share a five-minute daily dose of heaven. This is the My Morning Devotional Podcast. Well, happy Friday, everybody. We have made it to the end of the week. And yes, we've made it to the end of Philippians 4. What a blessing this study has been. And we have looked at chapter 1, chapter 2, 3, and 4, and we have dived deep into the word of God to the point where we've gone line by line and we've taken away different daily devots or daily takeaways, if you will, that have shaped us and helped us. And I, this is what I so love about the Word of God is that it was written for a group of people years ago in a place, in a city, in a town, and really in a church that had specific needs that Paul wrote to them for. Paul was in a specific place writing to people with specific needs. Yet it still speaks to us today. It's still relevant to you and I today. Sometimes I read it and I think, wow, Lord, you knew exactly what I needed to hear today, and you put it on paper thousands of years ago or a thousand. I don't know the math, but it was definitely over a thousand years ago. So I'm so grateful for that. And it's just such a blessing. And we're gonna close it out with uh verses 14 through 20. So we're gonna read a little bit. If you're reading in your Bible, I invite you to read along along with me. It says this, yet it was kind of you to share my trouble. And you Philippians yourselves know that in the beginning of the gospel, when I left Macedonia, no church entered into partnership with me in giving and receiving, except only you. Even in Thessalonica, you sent me help for my needs once and again. Not that I seek the gift, but I seek the fruit that increases to your credit. I have received full payment and more. I am well supplied, having received from Aphrodite the gifts that you sent, a fragrant offering, a sacrifice acceptable and pleasing to God. And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches and glory in Christ Jesus. To our God and Father, be glory for ever and ever. Amen. I love the ending of this chapter so much in this whole book. Because he's talking about the generosity of the Philippi. We were talking about the Church of Philippi, and we were like, man, we want to be the Church of Philippi. We want to be people that are generous, that someone can look back to and say, whenever I needed something, you were there. Whenever I needed a gift, whenever I needed something in my life, you were the one that was generous to supply my every need. I just think it's such a beautiful gift. And what it shows us is this that we can live generously because we trust a generous God. You see, I want to be generous not off of my own generosity. I want to be generous because God is generous. I want to reflect the character of him, not just the character of a good person. And so for us, we can live a life that's generous. Why? Because we trust a generous God. Paul ends this section by thanking the Philippians for supporting him. Their generosity mattered, but Paul points beyond the gift to the God who provides. And this is what he's saying. He's saying the generosity is beautiful, but look at who it came from. And he says, My God will meet all your needs according to his riches and glory in Christ Jesus. You see, there's a difference between having everything that we want and trusting God to meet our needs. And I think this is where we have to, I want to say this about generosity because I think generosity is such a principle that when we are generous, we will always receive. When you give, you're going to receive. And it is a kingdom principle. It's a kingdom mindset to have. But a lot of worldly people also they say the same thing. They they don't say it comes from God. They don't say it in a biblical way, but they just say, you know, when you give, it's always going to come back to you. Kind of like a karma thing that whenever whatever you put out into the universe, the universe will give back to you. Whatever you put out in the universe, the universe is going to give back to you. But we have to remind ourselves why we give. And we're not giving so that all of we're not giving so we have everything that we want and need. We are giving so that God can supply us of our needs. Why does that that why is that important? It's because God is the provider and the supplier of the needs. We're receiving every need according to his riches and glory, not according to how generous we were. You see, it's not a transaction. It's not something that we go, I'm gonna give, so then I'm gonna get. No, it's saying I'm gonna give because God is generous. I want to be like him. And God doesn't promise us a life without difficulty. He doesn't promise that we'll always have this financial abundance or perfect health and easy relationships or everything that we want on our Amazon list. But he invites us to trust his character. He invites us to reflect his character. And that trust, it changes how we live. We don't have to cling so tightly to what we have. We don't have to cling so tightly to the needs, and I have to make sure that my budget is exactly perfect. We need to be good stewards, but we don't have to cling so tightly where we don't give God anything or we don't give his people anything. No, we can give, we can share, we need to be generous. We can loosen up our grip because our security, it's not in our money, it's not in our account, it's not in our job. No, our security is in God. He is the supplier, he is the supporter, he is the provider. And we have to remind ourselves that joy isn't about getting more. Joy comes from realizing we already have everything we need. And what is everything that we need? It's Christ Himself. Joy comes when we realize we have Christ. So I want to ask you this question: where is God inviting you to trust his provision and perhaps become more generous as a result? Remember, this isn't about giving so you can get. This is really about trusting God to be generous and trusting that he'll provide everything that we need and more. Let's pray. Father, we just thank you that you are our provider. Lord, we thank you for this week. We thank you that you have shown us and spoken to us about our fears, Lord, our anxiety, our stress, the things that are holding us back, the things that are controlling our mind and the things that we so want to hold on to, Father. I pray that you would help us trust you to give, Lord, to be generous, Lord, to release the things that we so badly want to take hold of. Father, we don't know what tomorrow will bring, but we know that you hold tomorrow. So give us a generous heart. Remind us that our security is found in you and that you are our provider. In Jesus' name, amen. So there you have it, your five minute daily dose of heaven. Thank you so much for tuning in today. We pray these devotionals empower you to take on your day.
