Can you think of a moment when life’s challenges made it hard to find joy? In today's episode, Gaby Calatayud invites us to explore the idea of rejoicing in all circumstances as we dive deeper into Philippians 4. Together, we'll reflect on what it truly means to rejoice always and bring every worry to God through prayer and gratitude, no matter what our day looks like. We'll learn how absolute statements like "always" and "everything" from scripture can be a guide for consistent faith, even through ups and downs.
Let’s come together as a community in prayer and devotion, lifting our hearts in gratitude and finding delight in God's presence—always and in everything.

00:00:27.420 --> 00:01:14.510
This is the My Morning Devotional podcast. Well, welcome back to the My Morning Devo. It is Thursday. What a great day. I don't know about you all, but I love Thursdays. And so I hope you are feeling good on this Thursday and that you are walking into new blessings, new opportunities, and new situations. If something's not good at the end of today, it's gonna be good in Jesus name. Okay, we're gonna go back to Philippians. I don't know why. I think I'm just really loving Philippians right now. But we're going to stay in Philippians 4. But we're going to jump up. So on Tuesday, we were in verse seven. Yesterday we were verse 12. Today we're going to go back up to verse four through six. And I actually want to read the ESV version, so I'm going to change it here on my iPad so I can read the right one.
00:01:15.549 --> 00:01:25.629
By the way, this is Gabby, your host for the week. I apologize, I always forget to announce myself and, you know, quickly. Can you guys tell our voices?
00:01:26.909 --> 00:02:24.879
I'm in a very quiet studio, so I. I can't hear any feedback. But if you guys know our voices, can you, like, tell us? Because I want to know if you guys know our voices. Okay, let's jump into this. It is Philippians 4, 4 through 6. It says this. Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I say rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and supplication with Thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. My husband always accuses me of speaking in absolute statements. For example, we will be driving down the road here in Miami. And if you know anything about Miami, you know the traffic is terrible. I am more of a faster, stressed out driver. I like to get places quick. I don't like to be in the car too long. Whereas my husband is more, we got time, we're good. We don't want to kill anybody.
00:02:24.879 --> 00:02:45.680
So that's just kind of our dynamic. Well, you can imagine if any wife out there, you can help me out. When I'm in the passenger seat and he's in that state of mind of, we have time. I'm always panicking. And so there I go, I'm using an absolute statement. And so I'll tell him in the car he's driving and he's going slow for me. And I'll go, oh, my gosh, you're always going so slow.
00:02:46.520 --> 00:03:14.550
Or, oh, my goodness, are we ever gonna get there? And I'll use these statements of, you are always. Well in his brain, because he's a vocabulary geek. He thinks in terms of. When you say always, you mean every single time that I drive, I am slow. So then the argument becomes a vocabulary argument or a grammar argument. And I don't always drive slow. I'm just driving slow now. And then we have a big old argument about nothing when I should have just shut my mouth and just enjoy the ride with my husband.
00:03:15.669 --> 00:04:48.559
But these absolute statements, if you notice, in Philippians 4, 4, Paul uses absolute statements when he's talking about rejoicing. When he is talking about rejoicing, which means to bring joy, to have joy, to find joy in something, he is saying, rejoice in the Lord always. And then a little bit later, he says, don't be anxious about anything, but in any, every situation. In the ESV version, he says, but in everything, by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your request be made known to God. Paul is telling us right here that any situation and every situation you are in, rejoice in the Lord. He doesn't say, rejoice in the Lord in the good times, rejoice in the Lord when you have time. Rejoice in the Lord when you feel like it's. He says, rejoice in the Lord always. That means when you wake up in the morning, that means when you brush your teeth. That means when you go have breakfast, that means when you are on a call with your boss, that doesn't go well, and now you're nervous about your job. That means when you get the call about a family member or about a close friend, and it's a call that you never want to. You didn't want to answer in the first place. That means when you're going to school, when you're picking up your kids, and always, anytime, anywhere, rejoice in the Lord again. Later he says, but in everything, by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. What is he saying? He's saying, all the time in everything.
00:04:49.040 --> 00:05:05.000
Rejoice in the Lord and pray to God, give your requests to the Lord, give the things that are burdening you to God and after you give it to him, go back to rejoicing. This is such encouragement, but it's such a struggle.
00:05:06.600 --> 00:05:31.620
Because, you know, sometimes when. When we're good, we're good and it's easy to rejoice when we're good and it feels great, man, when you get married, it's like, God, you're so good and God, you're so faithful. And then you get that mortgage bill and you're like, God, are you even there? Or you have a baby and you think, man, could there be anything greater in this life than this child? And then the baby gets, maybe it's first cold and you go, go, where are you?
00:05:31.939 --> 00:06:51.870
We're never supposed to strike my baby with a cold. You know, we, we can be so back and forth as believers, but Paul is telling us, guys, always and in everything, rejoice in the Lord and pray to him. And I, I think this is our challenge as believers, that I'm going to rejoice when I feel like it and when I don't, I'm going to rejoice in the battle and I'm going to rejoice in the victory. I'm going to rejoice in the high and I'm going to rejoice in the low. And all throughout. I'll make my request known to God, but notice how he says, make your request known with prayer, supplication, with thanksgiving. Which takes us back to we're in a place of gratefulness and rejoicing and thanksgiving to God in everything, always and everything. Lord, we rejoice today. We give you, we find joy in our life and we give you joy. We give you praise God. We give you all of the honor because of what you are doing, God, because of who you are. Whether the situation is bad, we rejoice in you. Whether the situation is good, we rejoice in you, God, because always and in everything, we will give you praise. We will give you all the glory and in Jesus name we pray Amen and amen.
