VoiceOverHey there, we're the Alesssies, a ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida. And if you're like us, when days get busy and to-do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time. That's why we've partnered with our friend Allison to produce a five-minute daily dose of heaven. This is the My Morning Devotional Podcast.
Richelle AlessiGood morning, everybody, and happy Thursday. Welcome back to another episode of My Morning Devotional Podcast. My name is Rochelle Alesi, and it's my privilege to be with you guys this week as we continue studying the book of James. And um this week we've gone over James 1, and each day we've taken different chapter um verses. And throughout the entire month, we'll continue over each chapter. And please comment below have you liked this? What are you taking away from the book of James? Because it is convicting me every single day as I am reading this. And so, Gabby, thank you so much. Because this was her idea, guys. This was her personal study, and she was like, Hey, we should go over the book of James, and we are actually loving this. So thank you, Gabby. So let's continue to read. Um, verse 19. So James 1, verse 19 says, My dear brother and sisters, take note of this. Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires. Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent, and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you. Do not merely listen to the word and so deceive yourself. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and after looking at himself goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. Guys, this is so powerful. But whoever looks immediately into the perfect law that gives freedom and continues in it, not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it, they will be blessed in what they do. God's word isn't just something you listen to, it's something you live out. This is telling us right here. This honestly, the way that it's written is so beautiful. Imagine looking at yourself in the mirror and walking away and immediately forgetting what you look like. This is telling you that the word of God builds you and it tells you who you are. So when you are reading the word of God and you're acting, you're doing what the word says, this actually says, read it and do what it says. You are acting on who you were created to be. Sometimes, guys, in life, through the different seasons that we go through, it does create a little bit of who am I? What is happening? I don't feel like myself anymore. As you're going through some of these trials, you are standing the test, and some of the old things the Lord is working out in you saying this can't come with you in the next season. And sometimes those things make you feel a little bit less like yourself. But what we need to say in those moments when we look at ourselves and we say, I don't know who I am anymore, of or what's happening in this season. The Bible tells us right here to go to his word and do what it says. And when we do that, we are actually gonna find our true identity. We're gonna see ourselves and know who we are because we're doing what the Lord says, and we are going to not only win and fight all these battles and conquer them, but we are gonna know exactly who we are in Christ because we're doing exactly what the Bible says. The Bible says to do the word of not just to listen, but to do what it's saying to do, because we will be blessed. The reason why the Lord has written this word and giving us a way to live is because he wants you and I to be blessed in every area of our life. And that starts by us doing what the word of God says, not just listening to it. And it's it's easier said than done because the Bible does tell us to do some things sometimes that are a little hard, but those things we can do. The Lord would have not written anything that we couldn't do. We can do these things, we can be faithful, we can stand in the truth of God. Open up your Bible today. Start reading from James 1. Do what this James 1 says to do, and you're gonna see the difference in your life because the word of God is truth, it's transformative, and and it truly gives you everything that you need. And so today, remember that God's word isn't something you just listen to, it's something that you live out in every area of your life. So let's pray. Father God, thank you for your word. Thank you for giving us exactly what we need to do, exactly what we need to do. Father, thank you because we find ourselves in your word. As we listen to it and we live it out, we continue to discover who you are and who we are. So thank you, Father, for the way that you've laid out everything because it's perfect. So today we respond by saying, we're not just gonna be listeners of the word, but we're going to live the word out. Our testimony is gonna be the actions that we do, what people see us do in response of what we're reading and finding out more about you. We are going to live it out every single day of our lives. In Jesus' name I pray, amen.
