Don't Forget The Void

Are you trying to fill in the gaps in your life that only God can fill? Today on My Morning Devotional, host Stephanie Muiña invites us to reflect on the theme of “Don’t Forget the Void.” Together, we’ll explore the difference between brokenness and humility, understand the importance of recognizing our spiritual need for Jesus, and learn how true fulfillment goes beyond physical self-care. Drawing insight from Psalm 51, this episode reminds us that while it's good to pursue healthy habits, it is only through Christ that our deepest void is filled.
Let’s come together as a community—join us in prayer and devotion as we seek to let Jesus fill every area of our lives.

00:01:09.170 --> 00:01:46.189
Okay, let's do this. So this week I've been talking about what us Christians should not forget. On Monday, I talked about don't forget the fear of God. On Tuesday, I talked about don't forget holiness. And today I am talking about don't forget the void. And I'll explain that. Now I'm reading from Psalm 51, 16, 17 in the NIV version, and it says, you do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it. You do not take pleasure in burnt offerings. My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit, a broken and contrite heart.
00:01:46.700 --> 00:02:01.260
You, God, will not despise. My goodness. I love that verse. So, you know, at the beginning of the year, I started exercising. I lost some weight. I know, I know. Relax, guys. Stop cheering for me.
00:02:01.260 --> 00:02:44.060
Stop cheering. Stop it. Thank you. But, you know, it took a lot of hard work and I lost the weight. And I love how I look, I love how I feel. More importantly, and not only that, I even started, like, journaling. I started, like, reading. I read books, I read a few books. I've read one book, half a book, actually. But I'm reading, you know, I'm taking my supplements and I'm drinking my water because homegirl needs to take care of herself. And truly, I'm very, very proud of myself for my discipline. That's not normally me. I was never a big gym girl. I was never an athletic girl. But I just, I needed to take care of myself. And now I love it. I love going to the gym, I love working out, I love drinking my water.
00:02:44.460 --> 00:03:02.460
It's really made me feel so fulfilled physically. And taking care of myself physically has been one of the greatest changes I think I've made for myself. And truly I feel like I'm fulfilling some sort of physical void in me. However.
00:03:03.180 --> 00:03:06.840
However, there is something I cannot forget.
00:03:07.879 --> 00:03:33.719
I want to turn us to the analogy of wild horses. If you've never seen a wild horse, I've never seen a wild horse. But if you have, good for you. And you know that they run free in nature, they do whatever they want. They're probably out in Wyoming, I guess over in that region of the United States. Sometimes they're in Spain, sometimes they're. I think they're in Africa. I don't know. That sounded stupid. Whatever.
00:03:33.719 --> 00:03:48.020
But wild horses, they do whatever they want. And when a cowboy, when a horse trainer gets a wild horse, they have to train it. But the term they use for training a horse is to break a horse.
00:03:48.500 --> 00:04:17.089
And if a horse isn't broken, then it is essentially useless to the trainer. It bucks its back, it kicks any rider off of its back, it gets angry, it's not trained, and the trainer says that it is not broken. And brokenness in a horse means that they need its rider and it has an awareness of its necessity for its trainer, for its rider.
00:04:18.209 --> 00:04:40.139
Brokenness means that there is a void needing to be filled. And any brokenness in me means that there's a void in me. And I can only reach my fullest potential when I fill that void with Jesus. So, guys, I have filled up the physical void, but I need to fill up the spiritual void.
00:04:40.540 --> 00:04:55.819
And it's an everyday thing, just like working out is an everyday thing. Reading my word, praying to God, making sure my thoughts are aligned with his word, making sure my speech is aligned with his word, making sure I'm surrounded by people that encourage me to do so.
00:04:56.250 --> 00:05:26.589
That is an every day thing. I need Jesus to fill that void only because truly nothing else can. And I've tried. I have tried to fill up that void with other things, but nothing can fill that void like Jesus can. And this is where I really want to show you something. I have that brokenness to fill that void. But one day that brokenness is going to heal. And that's where I find my testimony. I'm no longer broken. God's Grace has healed me.
00:05:26.750 --> 00:05:37.790
However, the void always remains. And this is when we discover humility. Humility isn't brokenness. Humility is healed brokenness.
00:05:38.110 --> 00:05:41.230
And it's now an awareness of that void in me.
00:05:41.790 --> 00:06:10.920
Brokenness says I'm not enough, but humility says I'm enough because of Jesus. So I know that this sounds weird, but remind yourself of the void. Don't forget the void. Remind yourself every day that you need to fill that void with Jesus and only Jesus. And remind yourself that it's a daily pursuit and let him make you fool in every area of your life. Go take care of yourself physically.
00:06:11.079 --> 00:06:32.370
Go take your supplements. Go drink your water. Fill up the physical void. But always be aware that we are broken at the end of the day. No matter how strong we make ourselves, no matter how much you go to counseling, no matter how good your diet is or the amount of supplements you're taking, our bodies cannot withstand without Jesus.
00:06:33.089 --> 00:07:17.980
We need him to fill the spiritual void. Naturally, who we are is broken. Just like a wild horse, we are broken. We have things in us that will just lead us astray. We need the Holy Spirit in our lives and we have to always remember that we are nothing without Jesus. We are broken without him. But that's what the humble in heart do. They're aware of that void and they're aware that only Jesus can fill that void. So today, in everything that you do, pursue him and allow Jesus to fill that void and nothing else. Let's pray. God, we thank you for the way that you have created us. Because you have created us to walk in relationship with you.
00:07:18.620 --> 00:07:22.300
We are not complete until we have you in our lives.
00:07:22.779 --> 00:07:30.060
So Father, our hearts are open, our mind is open, our hands are open. We want you.
00:07:30.779 --> 00:07:34.300
We have these other things that fill our lives and we're thankful for them, Jesus.
00:07:34.889 --> 00:07:38.569
But our life isn't complete until you come into our hearts.
00:07:38.730 --> 00:07:42.089
Until you walk with us, until you guide us.
00:07:42.569 --> 00:07:57.930
So God, that's our cry today. Walk with us. Speak to us. Guide us. Help us. And we love you Jesus. We need you. Let everything we do today be a cry that says I love you and I need you.
00:07:58.089 --> 00:08:01.300
And in Jesus name we pray. Amen and Amen.
00:08:01.939 --> 00:08:22.899
