Complete My Joy

Complete My Joy

What does it look like to truly complete someone's joy? In today's episode, host Lauren Alessi invites us to reflect on Philippians 2:2 and the beauty of unity in our daily lives. As we dive into the topic of "Complete My Joy," we'll explore what it means to be like-minded, share the same love, and be one in Spirit and mind—especially during seasons that may bring division, like October. You are listening to the My Morning Devotional podcast, episode 1390. Today's episode is called Complete My Joy. Hey there. We're the Alessies, a ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida. And if you're like us, when days get busy and to do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time.

00:00:21.920 --> 00:00:59.640
That's why we've partnered with our friend Allison to produce a five minute daily dose of heaven. This is the My Morning Devotional Podcast. Hello, everyone. My name is Lauren Alessi and I am your host for this week. This month, we have been talking about overcoming October. And this week we are talking about unity over division. But today we are talking about completing my joy. And also, happy October 31st to anyone who celebrates, if you are a Halloween person, if you are not, then have a great October 31st or Halloween, whatever you celebrate.

00:00:59.880 --> 00:01:03.320
Maybe some people are like, how dare she bring up that holiday?

00:01:03.479 --> 00:01:10.120
But you know what? I thought I'd do it because we're talking about unity over division. So I thought it'd be the perfect little challenge.

00:01:10.519 --> 00:01:18.840
So whether you celebrate, whether you don't celebrate, whatever your thoughts are towards it, I just pray you have a good Friday. How about that? Okay, so anyways,

00:01:19.400 --> 00:01:41.780
2, and it says this. Make my joy complete by being like minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. Again, this is Paul writing to the church of Philippi, and he's basically finishing it off like this. Make my joy complete.

00:01:41.780 --> 00:01:56.620
This also sounds like a mom who's like texting like her four kids. Like, this is what my mom would, would like tell me and my four siblings. She's like, hey, just make me super happy by being, being like minded, having the same love, being in one spirit and of one mind.

00:01:56.620 --> 00:02:15.020
And basically what she's saying is like, stop fighting, please. It'd make me super happy if you guys just stopped fighting. That just kind of is what this verse sounds like. Make my joy complete by being like minded, having the same love, and being one of spirit and of one mind.

00:02:16.139 --> 00:03:18.560
And let us remember unity, guys. It's a calling amongst us Christians. It's. It's important to be united in your workplace and in your family, but when it comes to Christians, it's really not an option. I want to clear something up. If you are attending a church where the people around you are not speaking good doctrine, or if you are listening to another podcast where that is speaking false doctrine, or, or if you are, are, are taking Something in that you're like, I can't agree with this, it's not aligned with the word of God. You have every single right to say I disagree with this because it's not in line with the word of God. And I want to say you have full permission to do this because that means your thoughts and your opinions are in submission to the word of God. Even my thoughts towards this week, I don't ever want it to come from Lauren's opinions. I don't ever want it to come from just I'm getting upset in the moment. No, I want it to be completely aligned with what the word of God says.

00:03:19.280 --> 00:04:22.079
So I don't want us to think, oh, well, then I just can't ever disagree with anybody. No, if someone's not in line with what the word of God says, you have every right to say I disagree because it's not your opinion, then that person's walking out of line, out of step with the word of God. So I want to say that first and foremost because it's impossible to be like minded and have the same love and be of one spirit and of one mind with someone who's not in submission to God's word. But if we ourselves submit ourselves to the Word of God, if we are surrounding ourselves with people with friends, with family, with churches, with pastors who are constantly submitting themselves to the word of God, then we can be like minded, we can have the same love, we can be in one spirit and of one mind because we're all constantly under submission to the word of God. Paul describes unity as a joy filled calling. He's saying, make my joy complete by being unified.

00:04:23.120 --> 00:04:49.160
And I think even though that is Paul saying that let's make the Lord's joy complete, let's make God happy, let's glorify God as a Christian community, as Christians who represent Christ by being unified. I don't think being divided as Christians is representing Christ is representing God is representing his Spirit in a good way at all.

00:04:49.639 --> 00:05:38.300
I think when we are like minded, when we are submitted under the Word of God, when we have the same love, and when we are one Spirit and of one mind, we can make his joy complete and we can glorify God because we are under submission to him and what he wants. And that's how I want to glorify God. I just want to put him on full display. I don't know about you, but that's what I want to do. And if you're with me in that which I believe you are. Let's pray. Dear God, we thank you so much for a good week. Lord, we thank you for uplifting us and encouraging us not to just stay where we are, but to really unify as Christians and remind us, God, that unity is our calling. It's not something we have a choice to do, God. As Christians we have to be unified. It's not a choice.

00:05:38.300 --> 00:05:49.019
We have to be unified, God. And it's also it takes work. So Lord, help us to do the work, help us to be unified, help us to be like minded, help us to have the same love.

00:05:49.579 --> 00:06:29.670
Help us be of one spirit and of one mind and give us discernment, God for how to submit ourselves to the Word of God and to see who to surround ourselves with that is also submitted to the Word of God and God, even this whole week of devotions. Lord, I give to you me, the speaker Lauren Alessi. I give to you Lord. I don't ever want it to just come from my mouth, my mind, my thoughts, my opinions. God, I submit everything I just said, Lord and to the audience that hears me, God, may it come from you, Lord, and your word. Not just my opinion, but for you, to glorify you and to put you on full display. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
