Cleansed Completely

What does it look like to truly feel clean and innocent again, no matter what our past holds? In today’s episode, host Lauren Alessi invites us into a conversation about what it means to be cleansed completely, drawing inspiration from the song “Innocent” and the promises found in First John 1:9. Together, we’ll explore the idea of childlike innocence, discuss how God’s forgiveness can purify us from all unrighteousness, and reflect on how confession and repentance restore our hearts.
Come join our community as we lean in for a peaceful moment of prayer and devotion, trusting God to make us whole and innocent again. Let’s grow together in grace and faith.

You're listening to the My Morning Devotional podcast, episode 1368. Today's episode is called Cleansed Completely. Hey there. We're the Alessies, a ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida. And if you're like us, when days get busy and to do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time.
00:00:22.320 --> 00:00:49.259
That's why we've partnered with our friend Allison to produce a five minute daily dose of heaven. This is the My Morning Devotional Podcast. Hello everyone, my name is Lauren Alessi and I am your host for this week. Happy October, everybody. I cannot believe we are in the month of October already, but I just think it goes to show how fast this year is going. And no matter what this year has looked like for you, I pray that.
00:00:50.140 --> 00:01:51.689
I pray that you finish strong and I pray that you are giving it to to the Lord. And yeah, I just pray that we can finish this year out totally surrender to God and totally submitted to him. So we finished out the month of September talking about the book of proverbs and wisdom, and then now we're entering into October and I just thought, man, it'd really be nice to talk on a topic that's been on my heart and mind lately because my sister wrote a song and put out a song about Jesus making us innocent. So shameless plug. Because also this song has been stuck in my head. I had the pleasure of singing the song, but it's a really beautiful song. It's called Innocent and it goes innocent. You declare me innocent? I'm clean by the blood of the lamb. And it's really beautiful. If you want to listen to it, it's by Metro Life Worship Innocent. But more than that, I've really just been thinking, what does that mean to be clean by the blood of the lamb and to be made innocent?
00:01:51.849 --> 00:02:47.710
A lot of times we talk about being made free. A lot of times we talk about God's grace. But that word innocent really has just been in my heart. So I thought I'd share it today what I found in the Bible about innocence. So today I'm going to be reading out of First John 1, verse 9. And it says this, if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. So when I'm thinking about this topic of innocence, I keep thinking about this childlike innocence and who we were when we were children and how sometimes when we get older, we're taken far away from that and how God really just wants us to be made clean and purified from all unrighteousness. God wants us to be made innocent. But a lot of times maybe we do something that causes to lose our innocence, maybe something is done to us or shown to us that causes us to lose innocence.
00:02:48.270 --> 00:03:06.830
But God wants us to be purified, clean and walk walking in righteousness. Purified, clean from all unrighteousness. And here in First John, we see that if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
00:03:07.569 --> 00:03:28.689
So what we see is through confession and repentance, we experience the ongoing cleansing of Christ. When we bring our repentance to him, when we bring our sin to Him, God cleanses us. God makes us innocent again. Innocence is not about saying, okay, God, I'm never going to sin again. I'll never do this again. No, it's not about that. It's about being washed by Jesus blood.
00:03:28.849 --> 00:03:32.610
It's about being purified daily by his faithful forgiveness.
00:03:33.919 --> 00:03:48.120
So maybe sometimes ask yourself today, do you hesitate to bring your prayers to God, your confessions to God? Why do you do that? I feel like sometimes. Or why do we do that? Not just you, why do we do that? I feel like sometimes we think that that's like a very religious thing.
00:03:48.120 --> 00:04:09.610
Maybe that's a Catholic thing. But the Word says we have to confess our sins to each other. We have to confess our sins to the Lord. Is there a sin you're holding and not giving to God? And why is that? And how does this verse reassure you that God is ready to forgive you right where you're at? Just read this verse over yourself. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just.
00:04:10.250 --> 00:04:17.930
He will forgive us our sins and he will purify us. He will make us innocent and clean again. Let's pray.
00:04:18.089 --> 00:04:36.459
Dear Lord, we bring our failures to you, God. We bring our sins to you, Lord. Lord, we bring even other people sin to you, God. Maybe something that was done to us, God, we bring that to you, God. And we just pray that you clean us, you purify us, God wash us today. God, cleanse us, Lord.
00:04:36.699 --> 00:05:03.069
Make us clean again, Lord. Make us innocent again, Lord, so that we can walk in righteousness and the grace that you have for us, in Jesus name I pray. Amen. So there you have it, your 5 minute daily dose of heaven. Thank you so much for tuning in. Today we pray these devotionals empower you to take on your day.
