Have you been so focused on discovering God's will for your future that you've overlooked what He's asking you to do today?

In today's episode, Stephanie Alessi Muiña takes us into Philippians 2:6–11 and reminds us that Jesus gave us the perfect example of humility, obedience, and servanthood. Although He had all the power of heaven, He chose to humble Himself and serve others, showing us that walking in God's will often begins with faithfully serving right where we are.

We'll be challenged to stop waiting for the next season, opportunity, or answered prayer before choosing obedience. Whether it's loving our families, serving in our churches, encouraging a friend, or helping someone in need, we can reflect Jesus through the simple acts of service already in front of us. God sees our faithfulness, knows the desires of our hearts, and invites us to trust His timing.

Let's join in prayer and devotion as a community, asking God to reveal where He's calling us to be more obedient, help us serve with humility and joy, and teach us to trust that being faithful where our feet are is part of walking in His will.

Hey there, we're the Alessis, a ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida. And if you're like us, when days get busy, the to-do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time. That's why every weekday we share a five-minute daily dose of heaven. This is the My Morning Devotional Podcast.

Stephanie Alessi Muina

Good morning, everybody, and happy Tuesday. Stephanie here, and I'm so glad to be continuing in our series of Philippians. I'm reading from Philippians 2 in the NIV version, so open up your Bibles and let's dive into it. I'm reading from Philippians 2, 6 through 11, which says, Who being in very nature God, we're talking about Christ Jesus here, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage. Rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness, and being found in appearance as a man. He humbled himself by becoming obedient to death, even death on a cross. Therefore, God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledged that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Amen. I know somebody, he is the pastor at our church here, one of the campus pastors. His name is Pastor Armando, and he has pretty much been like a spiritual uncle to me. I've known him since I was a little girl, and he has served at our church for I think 20 plus years now. It's really cool how well we know him and how much he has been a part of our lives. And there's a story that my mom always says of him, because when he was first on our staff, he was pretty much my age. And he had asked my mom one time, Pastor Mary, what is God's will for my life? And how do I know I'm walking in the will of God? I'm constantly serving. I'm called to ministry, but I just want to know how do I know that I'm in the right place? How do I know that I'm in the right lane? And my mom stopped him right there, and she grabbed him and she said, Listen, Armando, you are already in the will of God. All you're doing right now, serving at the church, serving in your ministry, staying faithful, showing up when you're asked, bringing your kids, bringing your wife, you doing all of that, staying obedient to God, is already you walking in God's will for your life. And you know, I often wonder myself, what is God's will for my life? What's my lane? What's my path? What does God want from me? Well, let's look at the life of Jesus. In this verse, it says that he did have equality with God, but he didn't use that to his own advantage. So it's saying Jesus did have the power of God. Jesus had the power of all of heaven. He could have called on all of the angels, and like that, they would have shown up. And he could have put on a huge display for the world at that time to show everybody his magnificent power. Jesus could have done that, but instead, he made himself nothing, taking on the very nature of a servant, and he traveled all around Israel. Israel is the size of New Jersey, by the way, a tiny, tiny little region. And he's traveled all around this region and he healed people, he prayed for people, he fed the hungry, he found the lost, he called them to him, he washed their feet. So Jesus could have been the most exalted at that point, but he chose rather to become the most lowly and serve the people of Israel. So then I ask you, are you wondering what your will in life is, what God's will for your life is? Are you wondering what your path is? Are you wondering what you're here for? Well, if you're gonna just copy what Jesus did, then that means God's will for your life is to simply be obedient. What does that mean? Well, are you married? Do you have a husband? Do you have a wife? It's obedient to serve your husband and your wife. Do you have kids? Do you have to serve your children? Then and do you have to raise your children and train them in the ways of the Lord? Then be obedient to God and train your children in the ways of the Lord. Are you single? Then and you have lots of free time? Okay, then be obedient and serve your church. Serve your family. Serve your friends. Take people out to dinner. Buy their meal. Ask them how they're doing. Pray for people. Give to people. Go to their house and clean up their house and paint their walls or help them repair something that's broken. Be obedient in your season and serve those around you. Are you young? Then go serve in your youth group. Go give your once a week. Go serve at your youth group and serve on the worship team. Serve as the usher. Go put the chairs away. Just serve and be obedient. Where is an area of your life where God is asking you to be obedient? Because once you just take on the nature of Jesus, which is taking on the nature of a servant, then you are truly walking in the will God has for your life. Now that doesn't mean it ends there. That doesn't mean God is saying, put away all the desires of your heart and serve somebody else. No. God sees all the service you are giving to others. He sees the sacrifice. He sees the obedience you're walking in. He sees you dying to your flesh. God sees it all. And if you do it with the right heart, if you do it with a cheerful heart, if you do it with true humility and purity, then one day at the right time, God's going to give you the desires of your heart. God will exalt you, not man, but God will see all the service you have done unto him with a pure heart. And he will one day exalt you. He will give you what you've been praying for. He will bless you either with a spouse, either with children, either with a finances, either with something that is on your heart that you've been praying for. If you just continue to stay obedient to him, God will bring those things your way. So when you walk in obedience, you're walking in God's will. When you walk in humility, you're walking in God's will. When you die to your flesh, you're walking in God's will. And just remember, the Lord sees the desires of your heart. He knows exactly what you want. He knows exactly what you need too. And in the right time, he will bless you with it. Let's pray. Lord, we just thank you that you showed us the perfect example of servanthood. You showed us the perfect example of humility. So, Lord, we want to follow in your footsteps and do the same thing to our families, in our workplace, in our churches, to our friends. We just want to be a shining example of who you are. So show us where we can be obedient today. Show us where we can be more humble in our words and our actions, in our thought life. How can we obey you, Jesus? And go deep into the crevices of our heart and find the ways where we haven't been obedient to you. So that, Lord, we can just finally fix our steps and walk in obedience so that we can walk in the will you have chosen for us, Lord. And we trust that you know the desires of our heart. You know what we're praying for. And in due season, you will answer those prayers. And in Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
