00:00:00.080 --> 00:00:14.320
You're listening to the My Morning Devotional podcast, episode 1451. Today's Devo is called Add to your faith. Hey there. We're the Alessies, a ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida.
00:00:14.320 --> 00:00:29.320
And if you're like us, when days get busy and to do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time. That's why we've partnered with our friend Allison to produce a five minute daily dose of heaven. This is the My Morning Devotional Podcast.
00:00:29.320 --> 00:00:48.039
Well, good morning and happy Monday, everybody. Whether you're listening in the morning or you are catching us in the afternoon or evening. Welcome back to the My morning Devotional Podcast. We've got a great couple weeks of episodes. This is Gabby, your host for the week. And I'm excited to pretty much close out January.
00:00:48.039 --> 00:01:55.730
I got the honor to kick it off and now I get the privilege and honor of closing it out. So I hope you are enjoying the last couple episodes with my sisters. I know they've blessed you and just getting to hear them have really been a blessing to me and an encouragement for this new year as now we are in 2026. And so I know all of us have made maybe New Year's resolutions. Maybe we've made some goals, maybe we have some intentions of what we want this year to look like. And so I was thinking about a teaching for this week that can really take us into the rest of the year. And the verse of 2 Peter, chapter 1, verse 3 through 9 has just been kind of stirring in my spirit as I look at this new Year, I said it January 1st and January 2nd, that I've been looking at last year to this year differently because in the past I would almost see my life starting over every year. You know, the goals that I didn't achieve last year, now I'm just refreshing them again. The five pounds I didn't lose last year, now I'm going to try again.
00:01:55.730 --> 00:03:01.900
You know how that is. But this year I've changed my perspective. And instead of seeing it as a reset or a restart, I'm seeing it as building off of what I created or finished or completed in 2025. I don't want 2025 to just be something that happened and that occurred and now it's over and it's just a memory. No, I want to build off of it. I want 2026 to be just as powerful, if not more powerful than 2025. But I also want to honor the foundation and the building blocks of 2025. And so as I've been thinking about this for my own life, this verse, second Peter 1 through or 13 comes to my heart. I want to read it to you. It's a little bit long, but it says this. His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. First of all, if you're ever thinking about man, do I have everything I need? We just see it right here in second Peter that His divine power has given us everything that we need for a godly life. Let's continue through these.
00:03:01.900 --> 00:03:13.139
He has given us his very great and precious promises so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the correction, corruption in the world caused by evil desires.
00:03:13.139 --> 00:03:24.300
What this is basically saying is that the power of God has given us everything that we need for a godly life and that because of our knowledge of him, he's called us to glory and goodness.
00:03:24.300 --> 00:03:39.180
And through that knowledge he's given us these great and precious promises and that through them you may participate in the divine nature. Basically he's saying, here you're set apart the minute you come into a relationship with Jesus. Now you see things differently.
00:03:39.180 --> 00:03:57.590
You, you experience things differently, and now you can know different. But then here I believe this is verse five. He says, for this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith. And he lists out things that we need to add. You need to add goodness. And to goodness.
00:03:57.590 --> 00:04:15.250
Knowledge and to knowledge. Self control and to self control. Perseverance and to perseverance. Godliness and to godliness, mutual affection and a mutual affection love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive.
00:04:15.250 --> 00:04:58.050
They will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But whoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins. You see, in 2026, in this year, I don't want my life change and the foundation of my life to stop at salvation. You see, his divine power has given us the salvation that we need. Salvation is the, the key that we need to unlock all of the mysteries of God and, and who he really is. But sometimes we just stop at salvation. And I think in 2026, we need to build off of that. We need to add to our faith.
00:04:58.050 --> 00:05:26.829
I want to add to my faith. I don't want it to stop at just the miracle power of salvation. And I'm not trying to lessen the power of salvation or the impact. But I'm trying to say let's take advantage of the power and impact of salvation and add to it. Like Peter is telling the people here, you have received salvation, you've received a gift. God has, has enabled you to now live differently and see things differently. Now we can't stop here.
00:05:26.829 --> 00:05:45.379
We have to add to it. So what I'd like to do this next week is break down a couple of these things that we need to add to our life. I want to look at goodness and adding goodness to our life. I want to look at knowledge, self control, perseverance. I want to break those things down because I do believe in 2026.
00:05:45.379 --> 00:06:29.569
It's a year for us to add to our faith, to go deeper, to do more, to to know more about who God is and what he's done. I think this is the year that we can step into that and add to our faith. Add. Add to our learning and not just stop at the starting point. Because the reality is this, salvation is day one. We've got a plenty of other days after day one that God wants to take us through. And so I'm ready to do that and I hope you are too. And I'm excited for what this week is going to look like. So let's pray. Father, I thank you for your divine power that has given us everything that we need to live a godly life. And I thank you, God that you always keep on calling us for more. It doesn't stop at salvation, Father.
00:06:29.569 --> 00:06:48.250
Salvation is the starting point. It's the beginning of our story, God. And you've given us the ability through salvation to learn more about you, to be godly people, to persevere, to push through God. That's what your power has given us and we thank you for it.
00:06:48.250 --> 00:06:58.879
And we just bless. This week. I bless every listener. I pray that you would give them favor and honor and open doors today. God and new opportunities. In Jesus name I pray. Amen and amen.
00:06:58.879 --> 00:07:20.399
