What shapes your sense of identity when the world seems to pull you in every direction?

Today on My Morning Devotional, Gaby Alessi Calatayud and Christian Calatayud invite us into a heartfelt conversation about what it truly means to be seen as God's special possession (a chosen people, a royal priesthood, and a holy nation) as described in 1 Peter 2:9. Together, we'll explore how the love of a good Father redefines our worth, gives us unshakeable confidence, and calls us out of darkness into his wonderful light.

Let’s embark on this journey as a community, choosing God’s perspective over the world’s, and learning to walk in the light of our heavenly identity. Join us in prayer and devotion as we ask God to reaffirm who we are in Him today.

You're listening to the My Morning Devotional Podcast, episode 1475.

00:00:04.080 --> 00:00:49.109
Today's devo is called, "A Good Father." Hey there, we're the Alessis, a ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida. And if you're like us, when days get busy and to-do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time. That's why we've partnered with our friend Allison to produce a 5-minute daily dose of heaven. This is the My Morning Devotional Podcast. Well, happy Friday, everybody. We have made it to the end of the week, and it is bittersweet because this has been a good week. For the last time in February, I am your host, Gabby Colladiud, joined by my husband Christian, who has done a phenomenal job this week. Thank you for joining. My pleasure. I would like to have some feedback. We want some feedback.

00:00:49.109 --> 00:00:52.270
How did you guys like having one of the husbands on the show?

00:00:52.270 --> 00:01:18.290
Let us know, comment wherever you know to comment. We want to hear back from you because some people in the past have been like, this is a girl show, no guys allowed. And then others have really enjoyed it. So I have enjoyed it because you've really been a blessing. And today is going to be even more so a blessing. So let us know. And we're going to take you into 1 Peter 2:9. Again, we have been talking about the love of God all week. We're in the month of February, we're talking about love.

00:01:18.290 --> 00:01:22.230
But we've been talking about his love through him being our Father.

00:01:22.230 --> 00:02:56.439
And as we close out this week, I think the best way that we can describe God is by being a good father. And 1 Peter 2:9 says this But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. Babe, what sticks out to you? I mean, it kind of makes me emotional, you know, when you read, just reading it out loud. Obviously, we talk about these things beforehand, but you read God's special possession. Yeah, God's special possession. And, you know, I think the best attribute of a good father is that in him, you know who you are. Yeah. You know whose you are, but more importantly, you know your identity in God and in Christ. And when I read that, God's special possession, it tells you exactly what you are. It tells you exactly who your identity is or what your identity lies in, and it lies in God and it lies in Christ. Yeah, you know, I had a, a buddy just recently that, you know, was just talking to me and kind of sharing, you know, some difficulties that he's been having in his work and his job and different things. And, you know, I told him, look, you're never going to be satisfied ever if you keep harping on the things or harping on what people say you are or who people say you are.

00:02:56.439 --> 00:03:00.039
You can have all the money in the world. You can have the perfect spouse.

00:03:00.039 --> 00:03:22.840
You can have the perfect car. You you can have the perfect job. At some point in time, all of those things will run dry because you are basing and your foundation is on what people say about you, what people call you, the identity that you find in the acceptance of others. Yeah. When we read this verse, we're reminded that our identity can be found nowhere except in Christ.

00:03:22.840 --> 00:03:27.400
Yep. Our identity can be found nowhere except in God.

00:03:27.400 --> 00:05:02.228
And that if we build this foundation from an aspect of where people say, or of what people say about us, of what people say we are, the type of person that we want to be is only through the lens and through the eyes of other people. We will never be God's special possession because our foundation has to be, how does God see me in this moment? As a Christian in my work, as a Christian in my school, in my, in my life, in my family, am I acting like somebody who knows who they are in Christ? Yeah. Who knows that God is a father to them, is a loving father, is a compassionate father, is a generous father, is a good father. So when I look at this verse and then that last part, you know, who has called you out of darkness into his wonderful light, I think we can all remember the darkness we've been in, the darkness we were once in, and it calls us to shout the praises of him because we've been pulled out of that darkness. Yeah, and we've been pulled into his wonderful light. So as long as we make it about other people and what other people think, we'll never be satisfied. No, but a good father instills in us the identity that we have. Yeah, that we are strong, that we are courageous, that we are brave, that we are willing to do what other people are not willing to do, that we're willing to go out on a limb for our faith, that we're willing to declare our faith from the mountaintops, that when it's not popular, we declare it. When it is popular, we declare it.

00:05:02.228 --> 00:05:35.920
You see, God instills in us his attributes as a father, and because he instills in us his attributes We have to know who we are. Yeah, that's so good. And you know what? I, I think when we look at the voices of the world, or I'd say this, the positions in the world and then the positions in God, right? What the world will say about you versus what God says about you. They're always going to be the opposite. That's right. The way to succeed in the world, it's a dog-eat-dog world. You got to climb your way to the top.

00:05:35.920 --> 00:06:18.339
The way to succeed in God is by humbling yourself. The lower you go, you're setting yourself up in a better position. And so when you do hear things in the world that is trying to say, man, you've got to do this, or you've got to do that to succeed, you're going to see that the more you get into the word of God, it's going to be complete opposite of what God says about you. But this is where we have to be wise. This is where we have to catch ourselves and say, wait, do I want to be more of who God says I am, or do I want to be more of who the world says I am, or who the world wants me to be and who God wants me to be? This is the blueprint of what God has called us to be. We are a chosen people. We're different. We're a royal priesthood.

00:06:18.339 --> 00:07:01.480
That's something that, man, it's hard to describe right now in a 5-minute devo that's going 7 minutes. But we're a royal priesthood. We're a holy nation, man. Our lives are meant to be holy. They're not meant to be something that we go off of our lusts or our desires and our feelings or what we're thinking for the day. No, we're supposed to be set apart and be holy. And we are God's special possession. You're not going to hear that in the workplace. No, you're not going to hear it on a podcast by Joe Rogan, even though they're entertaining. Joe Rogan's not going to tell you that. The word of God tells you that. That's right. God called all of us to be that. And what a blessing it is that he's taken us out of darkness and brought us into this wonderful light. Amen. Amen. Can you close us out this week with a word of prayer?

00:07:01.480 --> 00:07:33.600
Let's do it. God, thank you for this day. Father, we thank you for everything that you have given us. Lord, we thank you for a great week. Yes, thank you, Lord, that, you know, going into this, this weekend, we'll be able to celebrate you. We'll be able to honor you on a Sunday, Lord. We'll be able to just give of our first fruits of, of what we have, Lord. So, Father, we pray that we understand your attributes as a father, Lord. We understand that you are loving. We understand that you are strong. We understand that you are compassionate, Lord. We understand that you are generous. And lastly, we understand that you're a good Father.

00:07:33.600 --> 00:08:25.120
And Lord, I pray that everybody under the sound of my voice might be able to identify with you, Lord. And Lord, what your word says, and as Gabby said, they might be able to see the opposition that is in this world. And Lord, they might be able to combat it with your truth. That Lord, we humble ourselves before you, that we are a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people. But most importantly, Lord, we are your special possession. Yes. So Father, we pray that you protect us as your special possession. As your special possession, we pray that you guide us, Lord. Yes. And Lord, above all, we pray that we might see you and understand you more as who you are in our lives. Yes. As a father to his sons and his daughters. Yes. We give you all the glory, we give you all the praise, and we thank you. We pray this in your Son's heavenly name and by his heavenly blood. In the name and by the blood of Jesus, we pray.

00:08:25.120 --> 00:08:48.009
Amen. Amen. So there you have it, your 5-minute daily dose of heaven. Thank you so much for tuning in today. We pray these devotionals empower you to take on your day.
